This place is a joke. The IPA tastes like hairspray and thats the best on tap!! Service is slow and rude. Don't waste your time on this one. Go to Bastone or Lily's.

5 on tap, nothing extreme. A unique place, to be sure. Laid back is a good description. Beer pretty ho-hum. Blonde is slightly sweet, Raspberry Blonde has "fake" fruit taste which is overwhelming. Hefe average at best. Pale Ale is a nice everyday beer while the Porter is roasty and edgy. Food menu simple but good. Turkey chili was very good as well.

This bar is really great. The service is awesome and the people that come here all have the same laid back, cool attitude. Its a place to be seen and chug back a couple of cold ones. They got a great selection of their owned brewed beers. Try the "blonde" if you like budlight or miller light. The pale ale is really good. You got mostly people in their 20's, and 30's. You got guys in suits, and dudes in jeans all mingling around and chilling. The food might be limited a little in selection, but they make it up in quality. The salads and sandwiches are really good. But, you got to try the nachos. The thing that sets this place apart are the bartenders and servers. Phil, Stevie, Matt, Andria, and Paula are the ones to get for service. The servers are hot!!! Its a good place to pickup girls too.

After revamping several aspects of the brewing system, in 2005 I produced around 540 bbls or 1,080 kegs. This total is up from 2004 about 80 bbls or 160 kegs. In 2006, I produced 625 bbls or 1,250 kegs. I routinely clean all the tap lines, discuss new house beers with the staff, and select our two guest taps each month. Currently we have Pilsner Urquell and Stone Pale Ale. Our REGULARS, comment that our Pale Ale is as good or better than the Stone Pale Ale which received a 100 on ratebeer.com. Our beer is going somewhere and those who know what's up get the WAB. If you want flare on your server's suspenders and a football helmet stapled to the wall the WAB may not be for you.

If you like your brewpubs to resemble that generic, cookie-cutter, corporate restaurant, stay away from the WAB. On the other hand, if you're sick of drinking beer in an atmosphere that feels like it was ordered out of a catalog, this place is worth visiting. The WAB is one of the few brewpubs in the greater Detroit area that's trying to be different, and has succeeded in crafting a unique identity. While the scene at the WAB is primarily one for single twenty- and thirty-somethings, the beer is very good and the food is a cut above typical "bar food." Truth be told, the WAB used to have some problems with their beer -- it just wasn't very good. But their new brewer, Greg Burke, is one of the best in the state and his 12 years of experience in this industry is reflected in the quality of the brews on tap here. If you're looking for a cool, urban vibe in a brewpub that wouldn't be out of place in Portland or San Francisco, this is it.

It's a shame because this place used to be great. Almost at par with Royal Oak Brewery just down the road. Not it's gone down hill and The Rob continues to be great. What Happened?

Whoa, went there for the first time last week. Tried two beers, the Ruby Lager and the Vanilla Porter. The lager, if that's their intro beer for the average Miller drinker that's fine. The porter was like water. Pretzel rods and a dish of 3 mustards swirled does not qualify as an appetizer! The gals working the bar seem disinterested and having once managed restaurants I always look for a management presence - saw none, felt none. Great location but I won't be back.

Gave it a second, third and fourth chance. Where is the management at this place!!!!! Although the atmosphere is cool, the beer is terrible and the service is even worse. What a shame.

The beer is not even close to Bastone or the Royal Oak Brewery. The staff doesn't know anything about the beer. Food is marginable at best. Good thing it's half off on Monday!!

Raspberry Ale was the best light brew pub beer I have had anywhere in the US. I travel a lot and tend to hit brew pubs for the better quality food, and this place rocked! Service was very good and Paula was very attentive. I was really impressed with this place!

I live in Ferndale and so want this place to be great, believe me. Unfortunately, it's only ok. The service is marginal. My experience is the waitstaff has a very poor knowledge of beer, in general. I think they were hired because of their "coolness" factor. The food is not great at all(the "fake" chicken used on the nachos as an example). The beer is inconsistent and when it's good, it's nothing special. I do enjoy sitting downstairs during the summer when the old firestation door is open. Overall, it's a great college hipster hangout joint but only a marginal brewpub.

This is a truly hipster place to hang out and to be seen. However, last time I checked it was also a brew pub/restaurant. The ownership/management needs to decide whether hip is what they're after, or quality service that offers quality food/beverage.

You must have a burrito at this place! Unbelievable food. The pale is what I have here. It's ok, no head. Not enough fermentation. The hefe is good too. I just love the food. Did I mention the food!

I've been going to the WAB for years and I love this place. The bartenders are awesome at what they do, and because its a small family owned place, they dont have to take anyone's crap. Maybe thats why no one likes it. Too bad for them, I'll keep going back.

Bad beer and the worst service of any brewpub I have ever been to! I'm not sure anyone is actually managing this place. Seems like just a bunch of hipster-doofus college age kids working there with no supervision.

If you like loud punk music, Gothic waitresses and cigarette smoke, then this is the place for you. I can only handle it in the summer when the downstairs is open (literally, .....the walls are large garage-like doors that they open). The beer is nothing to write home about. I usually stick to the wheat though "Como's" down the street serves Widmer Brothers Hefe on tap (thier food is much better too). Otherwise, spend a couple more minutes in your car and head north to Royal Oak Brewery!

I have been living in ferndale for about ten months now and this is my favorite spot. The food is good the beer is good and the staff and atmosphere are awesome. This is the best place to hang out in ferndale. If you want the post college crowd or the "I'm too cool for you crowd" you've come to the wrong place.

This place sucked! An annoying, dirty hangout for recent college grads who are still toteing the "too cool for school" attitude. Our waiter was some wanna-be pseudo english wit who looked like the poor man's version of Tom Green (and was about as funny). I'd never go back...ever!

This was one of the local brewpubs that I wanted to visit. Well, now I can say that I have been there. I probably won't go back. Neither the beer nor the food was anything to write home about. I gues what upset me the most was the fact that my buddy and I could have driven a couple of more miles and went to Royal Oak Brewery. There I know the beer will be good as well as the food. Oh well, live and learn. The "Shoe"

Let's see. I have been going to this place for years for the great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is also pretty good and last I recall they have half-off price for food on Mondays (maybe Tuesday?). Now, I'm not much of a liquor drinker but I will drink it when I'm at this place. The sad truth is that the beer is horrible. It doesn't matter if it's the Vanilla Porter or the Pale Ale, they all have the same aftertaste. I've asked several people the same question. If WAB beer was available at the store in six packs, would you buy it? The answer is always "NO". The only thing I can compare it's odd flavor to is COlt 45. Seriously. Damn shame too, because it's a great place to hang out. The brewer needs to get over his pride and try a new concoction.

Super trendy place. Lots of thick-rimmed glasses and black clothes. Beers are hit and miss, but the glasses of whisky are huge.
