This place has consistently has bad service.. I left AGAIN without being served... I sat at the bar for at least ten minutes without my presence even being acknowledged. There were maybe 12 people in the whole place, 6 at the bar, and the bartender walked by at least 6 times and never looked up... I give up !

This is one of those hard to find places that, once you find it, you'll always go back! Food is outstanding and the brew is to die for. I travel from Sierra Vista with my wife or my buds at least twice a month! IPA=out of this world! Heffe=a little late for summer but ab fab!

The doppel bock and the stout ROCK! They both pegged the good beer meter. Cool atmosphere, great selection of house beers. No table service on the night I came by. Had to go up to the bar to order, no big deal.

This is a fun place the set up is cool and atmosphere is crazy I tried the sampler tray and the common thread among them was the strong hopps and I loved them all with my favorite being the Irish red.

Beer selection is getting to be so-so, They just don't seem to be adding to their selections. Food selection also has not improved, so I headed somewhere else to eat. On weekends they have entertainment and charge admission after a certain time (8 pm, I believe)

Nimbus remains in the aforementioned industrial area. I actually thought I was lost before I stopped and re-checkd their web site. The beer is OK. Aggressively hopped characterizes their style. The pale was good, but the hop character was quite pronounced. The rye IPA was among the most highly hopped brews that I have sampled - almost like Tupper's Hop Pocket. The high point was the OUTSTANDING burger. Real cheddar on a thick, juicy patty with bacon & A-1. What more could you want?

It looks like Nimbus will be leaving this location to another new downtown location if all goes well.
As reported by the Tucson Citizen: "...A scaled-down version of the proposed Nimbus Brewery, restaurant and condominium project is in the works for a downtown site following meetings between the brewer and city officials this week..."

This place has the smoothest Oatmeal stout-with or without nitrogen. Nimbus brews an excellent Hefeweizen (seasonal) that is flavored with dried banana peels-Excellent! Very smooth and mildly sweet. I treid all the beers and I have not one negative thing to say. The place is not located on a corner or stret front. Once you find it, you will never forget how to get there. I am sure to go back, you will not be dissapointed. Make your way to Tucson people, I will again.

What a wonderful place for a brewpub, in a cement tilt up, in a commercial, industrial area of town. Nice cool breeze from the swamp coolers through the building. Outdoor seating on the covered deck.(shipping dock) The Sampler came with 6 beers. The Blonde was a honey blonde very light but with some flavor. The Pale ale was nice and hoppy in taste. The Red Ale had a nice color, nice malty flavor. The Brown had a nutty chocolate flavor. The Oatmeal Stout was a bit much for me, you could really taste the roasted barley. Old monkeyshine was very interesting very dark in color not bitter, but not sweet. Very drinkable. The burger was very good and at a fair price. Nice lively place everyone there was having a great time. I will stop every time I am in town.

I stop by Nimbus every time I'm in town. I was not impressed with the beer this time. The Stout was more like a Porter but like the others I tried had a lingering bitter aftertaste. I tried about 3 or 4; Stout, Pale Ale and something that was not very memorable.
The food has improved immensely. The server recommended a Philly Cheese Steak that was not on the menu and is, by far, better than anything I've tried elsewhere west of PA.
They have also remodeled since the last time I was here, moving and expanding the bar to the opposite side from the kitchen.
They are evidently serving the Red at the stadium because after a pre-season baseball game got out the place was inundated with fans. (that's not a complaint. it was nice to see people willing to patronize a place whose brew they had just tried)
The staff and service are great.

Not sure about some of the previous reviews complaining about atmosphere. Actually, we found it congenial and physical part equal to or better than most brewpubs. The Nimbus Pale is generously hopped, really in between a true pale and an IPA. The strong ale was also excellent. When we asked about (other) restaurants, the bartender had some of the regulars help us out, and their advice was great!
Yes, the location - not to mention the construction - make this place a challenge to find (but well worth the effort). Their loyal clientele help keep the place in business. One could do much worse in the Tucson area. My novia doesn't enjoy driving in larger metro areas; therefore I have to, and would love to see them offer a 10 oz. portion; they currently serve only pints.

This rating is actually between great and good-depends on the beer.
Rye Pale Ale-served very cold. Crisp and bitter, with medium hops and rye tastes. Nice refreshing beer.
Old Monkeyshine-sort of a cross between a barleywine and strong ale. Very dark and malty that is drinkable despite the 8.2% ABV. Good beer.
Dunkel Weizen: Very sweet and malty but the body is light for this style. Not a bad beer though.
Overall the quality of the beers is good enough for a stop here when in Tucson-just make sure you go during daylight if you've never been here. It's very difficult to find at night (and with the ongoing road construction it is double difficult to find).

Over the decade that Nimbus has been around, only the live music has not improved. In '99, they had a wide variety of music (even cajun's) and now it is just bluegrass.

On the strength of the recommendations from this list, I made a special trip to Nimbus. I have to say, I was really disappointed, perhaps the victim of high expectations. Their best beer was a strong ale, but even that was not that solid. The stout, the dunkel weisen, and the golden ale all left the same nasty ring on the palette, like dextrose was used as an adjunct (but who knows what was really happening...). Their pale ale, which I'd had in the bottle and liked before, didn't have any off flavors, but it was extremely thin, completely indistinguishable color-wise from the blonde ale, which color-wise would have been hard to distinguish from Bud. This might just be how they like to brew it, it was not a bad beer.
The food (fried zuchini and french fries) was really not good either, fries were straight out of a supermarket freezer section. I will say that the guy who served them to us from the kitchen was really nice and friendly. And the atmosphere is pretty cool... the ceiling's about 50 feet high, there's an upstairs loft with tables, it's pleasant. I just can't get over my disappointment with the beers, the real reason you'd go. perhaps they're just having a bad moment in time.
Sorry to write such a negative review, but i think it's important to be honest.

I visited this microbrewery's taproom on 3-15-04 and had the following brews; Dirty Guera Blonde, Pale Ale, Red Ale, Brown Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Old Monkey Shine, Weizen Bock, Hefewiezen, & a Nitrogen Porter. This place was very difficult to find, but worth the trip. T-shirts, pint glasses, growlers & tin signs are available for sale.

Beer only: Porter on nitro-wonderful beer. Smooth but with a nice ABV that hits the spot.
Pale ale-true to style-very dry and hoppy.
Good place to chill with the locals.

Unfortunately I only had time for a pair of pints, but the Strong Ale and Oatmeal Stout were both excellent. Both were full of flavor. If I only had more time...maybe on the next AZ trip.

I travel a great deal and have been to over 100 brew pubs from Tucson to Fairbanks AK and everywhere in between. I have to rate Nimbus in my top 5! The atmosphere is poor, they weren't serving food, and the place was tricky to find, but I'll still go back there for sure next time I'm in Tucson. Tried a number of beers and they were all great. Bartender was knowledgable about the product. Just make sure you're going there for the beer!

I had the sample although I had to beg the bartender to make one. I actually enjoyed all of the beers, even the styles that I normally don't drink were very good. I would go back in a second for the beer, but would do as an earlier reviewer suggested and get it to go. I won't repeat the general statements about the places location and etc. you can get the picture by reading the other reviews. My problems were this. No food. No wait staff, just an overworked bartender who when I asked if he could change the big screen from CNN to a bowl game said that it was a satellite and he wasn't sure if he could get espn (amazingly he was able to switch it over to the wheel of fortune a little later). The place is very smokey, the night I was there, there were only a handfull of people smoking but it was a fog. I thing their logo and theme is very cool. Best beer in Tucson, but not much else.

Best beer in Tucson, but without much competition. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and the place was a comfortable place to drink. Had the Pale Ale and the Nut Brown, both of which were excellent. I wish the beers had a bit more body, though. Maybe they brew light for the desert climate?

Nimbus was always the top brewery in Tucson. Located in an industrial section, it was always a real brewery with some furniture, dart boards, pool, etc. thrown in. Excellent comfortable atmosphere. Unfortunately, every day they try to become more glitzy at the expense of friendly service and the more-relaxed atmosphere it once had. They no longer have food other than peanuts and sometimes hot dogs. On my last visit the guy serving my beer had one of the worst attitudes I've ever seen. I still love the beer, but now it's something to grab to go, and no longer a great place to hang out with friends.
