Only one block east of the famed "Haight-Ashbury" intersection, so can be crowded. My wife and I had just run in Golden Gate Park all the way down to the Pacific Ocean. So we wanted a refreshing fluid lunch; Magnolia didn't disappoint.
Great ambience, good beers, and huge windows looking out on the passing parade up Haight Street. Proving Ground IPA was one of the best I've had. They also had just introduced small-batch aged bourbon-barrel ales...gotta do that run again soon so I can come back and sample those.

Stopped in this past week for a quick beer. Stumbled across it while checking out Haight Ashbury area. Had their Hefe. It had off-flavors that I just couldn't get past. Couldn't finish it. Wanted to let the staff know but they were pretty busy. Bummed! Out of all those beers, I picked the wrong one! Or was it the only one?

The Cole Porter was really good (I get it now). The IPA, excellant. The server needs to be refreshed in the difference between hops and malt. Asked a question about hops in the Proving Ground and I was told about the malt.
I didn't eat.
Visitors or at least the ones I met are great.

I was looking forward to visiting Magnolia, as I had heard good things about it. Unfortunately I went in for a sampler and was told they weren't doing samplers that day. It looked like there were about 12 or so beers to choose from, but to my disappointment I was only able to try two of them, as I didn't have a ton of time to spend. The two I had were TweezerTrippel and Proving Ground IPA. Both were very good. It's too bad they were unwilling to accomodate their guests with samplers. I would have loved to have been able to try more.

I visited this brewpub on 5/6/08 and had the following brews; Kalifornia Kolsch 6.2%, New Speedway Bitter 3.9%, Saison De Lily 7.1%, Proving Ground IPA 6.0%, Spud Boy's IPA 6.0%, Blue Bell Bitter 4.8%, Sara's Ruby Mild 4.7%, Big Cypress Brown 5.1%, Cole Porter 4.3%, Oyster Head Stout 5.1%, Spud Boy IPA cask and Marin ESB. This place is rather small and has a very busy dinner crowd. The artwork on the walls and booths are worth the trip not to mention the beer. After you have had a few beers you can then visit the many Head Shops in the Haight.

Magnolia doesn't disappoint with its beer. It's well made and simply delicious. This time, my third time here in about the past 5 years, had Saison and one of the IPAs. the Saison was very good and the IPA was more of an imperial style. The wings were overcooked and dry. The only downside was that the tables were kinda grungy.

There were about a dozen beers to select from, not counting the four cask-conditioned choices. It was hard to select for my sampler, but the beer was great.
They make some of their own meat. Their own andouille sausage sandwich was excellent, but their own corned-beef is great in their killer reuben sandwich. The food was terrific.
Our server was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was homey and pleasant. It was a great place to while-away an afternoon with a late lunch.

This is my local so I am a bit partial. We go for a pint and food about once a week. It is so nice to have a high quality brewpub a few blocks away. The focus is mainly on English style ales but they always have a few other styles on tap. The Tweezer Tripel is great when it is on tap and the food is always good. The menu changes pretty regularly and with the seasons which is wonderful.

Stopped in the Magnolia on a Friday for lunch. I'd never been to Haight-Ashbury district and wanted to check out the neighborhood. Let's say the Msgnolia was the "height" of my trip. What a great place! Friendly and knowledgeable bar staff and their beers -I had the bitter and the IPA - were both a credit to the brewer's craft and entirely pleasurable. They also offer a number of guest brews but I was so enamored with their offerings I never got that far. I will on the next trip - go there!

This brewpub is in a class all it's own - 8 draught and 5 cask beers! Not to mention the unique artwork, location, and above all, the friendly staff - our server, Katie, made us out of towners feel like this was our neighbourhood pub. The beer was some of the best I've had in a brewpub, and their menu items have expanded since last year as well. Very tasty compliments to beer. Worth a trip from downtown San Francisco just on it's own. A must stop for beer geeks in the bay area.

A fun, good-vibes place to sit down and quaff some good-quality handmade brews. The brewery is downstairs and the smell of wort was wafting up through a grate in the floor the day we were there. The calamari is highly recommended - some of the most tender and tasty squid ever. If you go during happy hour (4-6) a 20 oz glass of completely inoffensive, serviceable IPA (or other beer) will cost you a dollar less. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by.

This is the best brewery in San Francisco!! There is real craftsmanship involved in their brewing. There were eight draught and five cask conditioned beers available. A 20oz beer is $4.50. The Cask Blue Bell Bitter is excellent and the Spud Boy's IPA is no slouch, both sharp and bitter. Avoid Sara's Ruby Mild and the calamari appetizer.

I knew I was staying for awhile when I discovered five (yes, five) cask conditioned ales on tap. The cask IPA was incredible, and the CO2 Stout of Contention was also superb, except it was served too cold. The service was friendly, and the food great. If you only have time to hit one brew pub in San Francisco, this is the place to go.

One of my favorite brewpubs. A weird herby beer called the Gruit or something like that is easily the best and most unique thing. Despite the hippy location,(and the concomittant odor from people who don't use deodorant) this is a really great brewpub.

Oh yeah, break out the tie-dye T's, splash on a little patchouli and make it to the Magnolia in the heart of the Haight. The beer is great, the food is beyond pub grub and the cozy atmosphere makes it a "must visit" for tourists and locals alike. Went through a pint each of the Sara's Mild Ruby and the Cole Porter. Also had the Ashbury Alt which is limited to 9 oz. only(so buy two). All were quite yummy. The Monday food specials and musical selections were geared toward New Orleans. Tried the Crab Crawfish Cakes. Portion could have been bigger but it was tasty nonetheless. The parking in the Haight can be atrocious so plan ahead. And if the beer isn't to your liking, you can probably find something out on the street that might be.

Everything was pretty good... Only 2 complaints - Brewmaster reportedly makes modifications to the recipies everytime a new batch is made (never the same beer) and the Growlers are note even painted (stickers)... Cool place to check out though...

Three IPAs on tap. The hoppiest one was best. Knowledgable, friendly fast efficient service. The olives stuffed with anchovies were to die for. Good people watching on Haight Street.

We can't say enough about this wonderful, wonderful Pub & Brewery. We believe it is the finest Pub in America. We were here in June of 2004 and were able to return this August. We were here for breakfast on Steve's birthday - fantastic Dungeness Crab Cakes/Eggs Benedict/Hollandaise Sauce (the Crab Cakes contained more crab meat than 2 of the Cioppino's put together that we had at Scomas at the Wharf!) - and had our favorite beers with that - Stout of Circumstance, Prescription Pale, Blue Bell Bitter, and Big Cypress Brown. (Who ever said beer could not be consumed at breakfast!) After going to the Oakland/KC game, we returned for dinner and more of these wonderful beers. We weren't driving, so it didn't matter how many we had! We had more of the Stout of Circumstance, Blue Bell Bitter, Brown, and this time tried the Ashbury Alt. They are all terrific beers. The staff is wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable, caring. And the two dinners we had - Salmon and Steak - were also excellent. Don't miss this place. The Jerry Garcia mural is a joy to look at as you sit at the bar and enjoy your beers.

We hit the Magnolia as an afterthought while visiting the Toronado. We ordered two samplers, each of which had six different brews. My faves were the alt and a oyster stout. All were quaffable though the wheats and one IPA were on the bland side. Food was excellent. Service was efficient and polite. It's hard for a brewpub to be consistent with a dozen beers on tap. Cutting back the number of brews might improve consistency.

A cozy, friendly brewpub with a psychadelic-art twist in the middle of Haight-Ashbury. A very friendly, attentive staff accompanies excellent food and consistently fine brew. Favorites: Blue Bell Bitter and 710 Ashbury Alt.

Magnolia Pub was a highly anticipated stop on my brewery tour. I was very disappointed. All of the the beers I had were cask on a hand pump except the porter. Ruby mild cask had a very watery mouth feel with no real flavor. Weather report wheat had a decent wheat bite to it , but was still a watery brew. Blue bell bitter had a weak watery taste to it with a very bitter hop finish. Blue bell bitter on tap was a little more balanced, but still watery. Proving ground IPA was nothing but hops with no maltiness to speak of. Very weak beer as well. Cole Porter was very roasty with an uncharacteristic hoppy finish. Lacks balance. Saving grace was nice artwork. Run away from this place!

My boyfriend and I tried many of the beers at Magnolia (in two sets samplers, the second of which was a very generous sampler of the strong beers they had), including an English guest tap-on cask- that made me feel like I was back in England. The IPA on cask when we were there was great and I am in no way a hophead. The stout was quite good too. The bartender was friendly and quick. We met the brewmaster- Dave- who was also friendly and chatted with us for about 15 minutes on a busy Saturday afternoon. Some locals sitting next to us were friendly and had all kinds of suggestions even though we were clearly tourists. Overall, we greatly enjoyed ourselves and I think my boyfriend was ready to have one of their barstools permanently attached to his rear end!

I've visited many brewpubs all over the country. Magnolia is one of the very best I've ever been to. The cask IPA may be the best I've ever had, the selection is incredible, all the beer we tried was excellent. We were there during February, Strong Beer Month, so they had lots of those-- including 3 different years' barleywines. Need I say more?
