Not here any more. No one cares. Kathy was very astute in waiting for her moment to sell.

I've been in Jax for over 8 years and Lived at the beach for about 5 of them. Kathy is a great host and is always accomodating. She is knowledgable and friendly. I support her efforts to keep the business going. Unfortunately, since now I live in Mandarin, it is rare that I go out to Paradise alley, and when I do, the doors are locked and it doesn't look like anyone is in there. I've tried to bring visiting relatives and family beer enthusiasts out to enjoy the selection and great food, but every time, it's closed. I wish I could help more, I'd like if it could be open 10am to 2am and even franchise out toward downtown. Jacksonville needs a place that can SERIOUSLY cater to beer enthusiats, serve quality home made food at reasonable prices, and have the customer service and friendliness that Kathy and Paradise Alley provide. How many places in Jacksonville offer multiple varieties of Trappist ales? NONE. Except Kathy's. Hey Kathy, if you read this, do you have any Quak in stock?

The comment was annonymous - easy to make such a statement when you will not use your name. So on that basis I think your line of crap should be disregarded.
Paradise Alley is probably not what is used to be. I can not compare as I have only been in Jax Beach about 7 months. I did find Paradise Alley though and along with the other regular customers who I have met find it to be a rare jewel. Whether the development in the are allows the establishment to continue I do not know. I am enjoying my time there as long as it lasts.
A great selection of beers and microbrews. Kathy knows her beers. She also makes a great burger and anything else I have had the pleasure to eat that she has prepared.

Ever since the city decided to start selling all the beach property to these monstrosities passing themselves off as developments, Kathy has refused to sell. She has gotten a lot of negative publicity in an attempt to curb her business and force her out. This has caused it to become a one-person wait staff doing the serving, cooking, bussing and waiting. Paradise Alley is still open despite anything you might have heard or seen! She might not have the variety that she used to have, but it is more beer selection than any other place I have ever been. Easily over 500 different beers. The food is really good and Kathy is friendly as long as you don't make a fool of yourself. THIS IS NOT A NIGHTCLUB SCENE! It's an out-of-the-way place to sit back and relax in a quiet atmosphere with plenty of beer, a personable waitress, and friendly patrons to keep you company.

Why continue the lie about the beer list? Trying to order can be frustrating as 75% of the proffered beers simply aren't in stock. Get real. Beer drinkers aren't all stupid... are we?

When I moved to jacksonville in may 04, this place was my second home, always happy hour, over 2000 beers, great wait staff who remembered who you were, what beer you liked, how you liked your food, and knew the beer well enough to reccomend beers you'd like, then this new guy showed up, I don't know if he bought the place, or is just a friend of the owner, but after he showed up, the entire wait staff was fired, the cook was fired, and the bar was only staffed by 2 people, you had to go to the bar to get a drink or food, and you were treated poorly. I Have not been there in about 4 months and I have no plans on returning.

This place has a pretty good draft selection and some great happy hour deals on the drafts (happy hour tends to last most of the day at this place). They have an extremely large bottle selection but the printed lists are not kept up to date. Lots of beers on the lists are no longer available plus there are other beers they have now that are not on the list. I don't know how anyone is supposed to order them. Still, you should be able to find lots of great beers here and it is a fun, relaxed place. The beer garden is huge but does not have an ocean view. They also rent 4 motels rooms on the ocean front (the rest of the rooms in this old motel building seem to be taken up by the bartenders). My wife and I stayed in the Lighthouse Room. It had very neat old furnishings and lots of lighthouse knicknacks. It had a frig and a wet bar. The place is right on the beach, the ocean view from the rooms and the yard in front of them is obstructed somewhat by the sand dunes but you are only steps from the beach. The rooms are expensive: $120 for a small room and $140 for a larger room. Plus, you have to pay in cash. Though the motel looks slightly seedy from the outside, the rooms are clean and nice (but odd) inside. It's a good place to stay if you plan to spend your time at their bar and the beach.

I wouldn't want to bet against their claim of 1500 beers! Great beer, great pub food, beachy atmosphere. I give it my highest recommendation.

Paradise Alley is a local treasure. Don't know exactly how many beers there are there (never been sober enough to finish the count), but there's many, many in their cache. The food ROCKS! Check out 'Eyeball Alley' in the warmer months. You'll love the skaters, bikers, and earth boarders.

Great place for a summer afternoon.. watch the world go by and have a beer... Unfortunately for beer buffs, the extensive list hides a lot of "mis-truths". Nice place but simply not as many beers available as is boasted. Order and see...

They say 1500+ beers, and the 6th largest selection in the states. 1500 maybe, way over 1000. Kathy is planning 300 Taps in a major overhual. We were looking for this place for a while, actually drove by it a few times. The only sign out front is a purle sign that reads "Motel". We went in becuase of the ecclectic neon beer signs in the window. Fun place.

This place is a trip, imagine that your at a BBQ at your poorest relatives house and he had to go dumpster diving for the furniture. Evertyhing is of the cheapest quality, everything that is except for the beer. The selection is truly first class, they claim 1500 bottles on hand, maybe, maybe not either way there is a huge selection. Its located in a old style shore motel next to First Street Grill, which is the place to go if you want an ocean view or a nice sit down dinner. But after dinner and the when the sun goes down and the lack a view don't matter, head on over to Paradise and enjoy a truly world class selection of beer, so what if your 100 feet from the beach and its seems like you could be in the middle of the Bronx. Only concern would be that they don't do enough business to rotate sucha hugh selection fast enough.

i don't know what the last guys problem was but it could "not" have been the selection, they claim to have 1500 beers, i don't know if that is true, but i wouldn't want to bet against it. and the best part, no Bud, although they did have coors, oh well no one is perfect. outside the place feels like your at your poorest relatives house for a party and he went dumpster diving for the furniture. evertyhing is of the cheapest quality...except for the beer, which is what your here for. didn't have any food and there is no view, if you want those go next door to "First Street" if its beer selection you want this is the place in Jax, and since no one can brew worth of s..t in this town, i'd recommend checking it out. the really bad band playing in the row boat really completed the feeling that you were in uncle vito's backyard in brooklyn.

We last visited Paradise Alley some 5 years ago. We were disappointed this time to find that all the draft taps had been taken out, but it was explained that they hope to take over large premises next door and have 100 taps! The sheer size of the bottled beer menu made us less disappointed - hundreds from all over the world. We had a wonderful Saturday night, but beware Sundays - they tend to close early during the quiet season. We didn't eat here but the menu looked very interesting, and we fell into conversation with the ex-brewer from the now-defunct First Coast Brewery at Fernandina Beach, who also seems to have some plans up his sleeve.

I reviewed Paradise Alley in 1998, but it is well worth writing about again. I really like Dendron's description. Sums up this beachy, unpretentious, down-to-earth (or should I say "down-to-beach") place very nicely. If you haven't been lately, go by and see what Kathy & Bob & Joe & crew are up to. They are in the process of major remodeling, enlarging the bar, creating more outdoor areas, increasing beer selection to 1200 and showcasing it nicely, opened a Tiki Bar on the beach, etc. It is such a fun place, very laid back, FOOD IS FABULOUS --- and now that they have additional crew -- things are getting better and better. I've got to try the Sangria... I love this place. Once is not enough, you'll have to keep going back again and again. Love you guys. I'll see you this weekend.

Without sounding overly cliche, Mega-dittos to the other reviews. Visitied twice over the '98/'99 New Years weekend. Killer selection of beers on tap (40 and growing soon). Funky decore to say the least. The proprietor has my ideal retirement job! He's quite knowledgeable about the beers and enjoys discussing them. The food is very good (I had the homemade 15 bean soup). The service can best be described as very laid back.

A totally funky converted beachfront motel office(circa 50's)makes for a strangely interesting melange of everything kitsch and touristy one could possibly wedge into a 15 x 40 space. Everything from pickled shark fetuses to UFO kites. This would have made a great location for a scene in John Water's "Pink Flamingoes". Fabulous assortment of imported drafts, even Thixton's Old Peculiar. Good wine and take-out selection. If you get too trashed, you can even spend the night in one of 3 recently renovated oceanfront "suites." Huge sandwiches.

They have approx. 500 beers on the menu. About 40 on tap. Serves great food and has a great bar where you can just relax and carry on conversation with friendly staff or go out on the deck and listen to the guitarist/singer (Buffet/Morrison type). Can also take a six pack of assorted brews home to try. Really neat place for the simple and casual at heart.
