Stopped by for a "Firkin Friday". For $3 tokens you get a "pint" of excellent beer. These events are awesome for us beer geeks---it is a lot of fun to hang around like-minded people, which is all you will find here if you attend. The black IPA was damn nice, but so were all of their beers. Avoid the $20 taxi rid from downtown and take the muni. The neighborhood is not as scary as it looks (at least on the ride down). A little cart was set-up that sold burritos. They were completely adequate for the purposes (in addition to the free popcorn).

Bailed out of work early and drove forty miles from the South Bay in a typhoon just to make that small window of opportunity. Well worth the trip. Not on the 49 mile scenic loop nor as classy as the Anchor Steam tour but worth noting especially if you might be heading to a Giants game on a Friday eve. These guys like making strong beer. Good stuff on every level. Three bucks per token for a decent pour. Walked out with a "bomber" of the Double Daddy IPA and the Payback Porter. One stop shopping. Nice stroll from the Muni rail if you so are inclined.

Boy, did I luck out! I was in San Francisco for the weekend trying out microbrews. Speakeasy was on the list of places to try. For some reason on Friday, we said lets go down to Speakeasy tonight ratehr than tomorrow. Little did I know that the only time they are open to the public is Friday evening 4:15 to 8:00 PM. It's on Evans, about six blocks off the F line of Muni. Be patient, the F line is eratic.
The beers are fantastic. Big Daddy wonderful, Double Daddy, twice as good, full bodied, simply put; fantastic. Prohibition is excellant. There is some finger food, taquitos. Although I didn't try any. Brewer is available to talk to.

Had a bottle of Big Daddy from the 6 pack that I purchased from a beer store here in Seattle. From my first taste this was truly a great IPA. The remaining 5 will not be shared. Well maybe I will just to spread the word.

This is a great local microbrew that is beginning to expand its beer selection. The White Lightning is light and refreshing. They have an open house every Friday from 4-8 so the public can sample the beers at the brewery.

Had Speakeasy pints at: Rogue Tied House and Goat Hill Pizza (Potrero Hill location). Really great pints, memorable flavours even though this S.F. trip for me entailed trying every brewery and brewpub beer in the bay area. Prohibition Ale was hop heaven, like sticking your nose in a bag of leaf hops. One of those beers that you just don't want to stop drinking, it's so good. Next trip out, will have to try their open house.

Had their Big Daddy IPA at 21st Amendment. They definitely max their bitterness units. Talk about wonderful hop flavors. May be too much hops for some meals but truly a fine IPA.

Went to Speakeasy, but found out when I got there that you needed an appointment to visit. Will try again on another trip to the Bay area. Their beers are pretty good though. You can get them at Beverages an More.

Just to clarify a couple earlier reviews.
- They don't serve food, it's just a microbrewery. (Check they're website.)
- They're not located in the Haight. (They're in Bayview by Hunter's Point.

Honestly, one of the best breweries in the city. My personal preference is for the Prohibition Ale and i hear they should begin bottling soon. Don't miss it.

A surprising range of well-made beers, and it's location in the Haight, make this place worth the hunt. Good luck with parking, though...!//TSB

These guys make some incredible beers. Look for the Prohibition Ale if you like big, west coast ales and the Common Ale for those prefering ambers. The Satchmo Stout is a rich, creamy, big beer and makes for wonderful sipping. They are releasing a Belgian style Wit that I haven't yet tried, but I'm looking forward to it. The beers are popping up in more and more places around SF.
