I stopped by this brewry on 5-7-08. It is just a brewry, no food, no taproom but we found Steve, one of the brewers who let us sample everything they were brewing at the time. It was a really good time and the beer was very good. Steve was a real nice guy and very informative. If you get a chance go by there and ask for him. Its really not open to the public but he will hook you up with some samples. Glad I stopped there.

I found Live Oak's Barleywine at the new Uncle Billy's Brew & Que here in Austin. The bartender did not know how old it was, but a little more agin would make this a wonderful brew. The only way to find their brews is to visit numerous fine beer bars in Austin. It is a pub crawl worth taking, but again I would like to be able to take some home in bottles.

I sampled this breweries Amber, IPA and Hefe Weizen at the Gingerman in Austin Texas on 9/30/06. The Amber was malty sweet with a nice balance of hops. The Hefe which was served with a lemon wedge was a very chewy banana & clove delight. The IPA was a hop head's dream. It had a very fruity aroma and an excellent hop bite. I only wish that they bottled their products so I could drink them more often.

I used to hate hefe-weizen. In fact, I used to LOVE to hate hefe-weizen. And then I had Live Oak's -- WOW! NOW I get it. Gobs of banana and clove, and you can almost chew the yeast. Nothing better for a hot Austin day.
The Pilz is divine. A CoorMillWiserLite kid would strain a taste bud on the hops, but it's just right. Chip says he and the other brewers go through lots of this stuff - yum!
The Liberation Ale is a fine IPA with a great hop nose and plenty of malt to balance things out.
All the rest are very good, too. Try 'em all!

I had the Liberation on tap at the Flying Saucer in Addison, TX. Heavy malty overtones with a strong alcohol bite. Great winter beer.
I've had most of their beers and these guys make great beer..let's bottle it now!!!!

Best beer brewed in Austin hands down! Chip and Brian got it goin' on. I had a friend from Germany try the Hefe Wiezen and she was amazed that they could reproduce an out of the bottle yeast character from the tap. I'm a hop head and the IPA rocks!

Live Oak is a very small brewery, their beer can only be found in the Austin area, and it is only offered in kegs. Their equipment is an eclectic mix from now closed breweries around Texas and the US. A guy named Sam showed me around the works. He said they are planning on bottling in the not too distant future and will also be creating a line of logo glassware. Sam also points out that since they are not a British brewery they will not have pint glasses. I didn't actually get a sample here, but I've had their Hefeweizen at Waterloo Icehouse on Burnet Road, and it is quite hoppy, I order it every time I'm there. Live Oak is only a stone throw (half a mile) away from Hill Country Brewing, but there's a world of difference in quality and character between the two breweries.

Almost never write up micros, but being that this is my hometown thought I would have to highly recommend Live Oak. When you see a Live Oak tap in Austin, seize the opportunity for total beer drinking bliss. There is no brake pedal on this beer - everything is very tasty. The Pilz is very hoppy, yet oh so refreshing; the Pale is more of an IPA, strong and superhopped, yet able to pull off a great finish; the Hefe and Marzen are just plain wonderful. There are many beer choices in Austin, and this is one of the very best.

A great newcomer to the Austin beer scene. Though I haven't seen their products in bottles, they are available in bars around town. The pale ale is a hop-lover's treat. The hefeweissen is cloudy and flavorful.
