They have reopened. However, they do not have any of their own beer yet. They currently have Bell's brands, Arcadia, and Leinenkugel. Allegedly they have a new brewer who is re-furbishing the equipment and will be brewing soon. Hopefully his beers will be better than the previous brewer. They couldn't get much worse! Of course, the location and building are very nice, if you can find it.

The only thing this place has going for it is location. The beers have gotten worse and selection has become more limited in the past year. Service stinks, too. Unfortunately, I'll be there again soon (Aug 14) for a meeting - after that it's off to Bell's or any of the other excellent I-94 corridor brewpubs.

Service was horrible. After the waitress took our drink orders, we waited almost 20 minutes until we saw her again. When we mentioned it, she got a real attitude. The beers were fair, at best. The Red Sky Ale and the St. Joseph Pilsner were OK and the IPA was tolerable. The others (Oatmeal Stout, Rapsberry Wheat, Light and Sunset Wheat) were either bland or just poorly brewed. The food here was also disappointing.

Unlike Moondoggie, my experience was pleasant. The staff friendly, but not pushy. I was there at 6:00 on a Friday evening and it was still quite slow, not unusual for a lake shore town in early spring. The beer was lacking in flavor, except for the Strawberry which was pleasant and refreshing. Worth a dinner stop if hungry. Food was outstanding and with free snacks(Fried shrimp/with red pepper) when I was last there. It is also a great building.

It's a real shame to see a spectacular location and beautiful building--an old lighthouse--wasted. First: the service. Sat at the bar at about 5:30 on a Saturday. Despite the fact that only two others were seated at the bar, and two brewtenders were working, it was about 5 min. before our presence was acknowledged. And even then, the barperson didn't say "hi, what can I get you," she stood in front of us and continued her conversation with the other couple until I finally just said what we wanted. (Which she then had to re-confirm when pouring due to her lack of attention.) Second, the food. We had planned on having dinner but the appetizer we ordered turned us off so badly that we left. Pesto bread at $4.50 described as "thick slices of bread with mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto sauce" turned out to be TWO slices (not thick at all) of italian bread with a slice of tomato, sprinkled with basil, and a melted mozzarella square, cold in the middle. Doesn't pesto require pine nuts? The most inexpensive dinner entrees were pasta primavera at $13.95, and individual pizzas at $9.95, which we were unwilling to take a chance on after the appetizer. Last, the beer. The IPA, described as unfiltered and highly hopped, appeared to be neither, and was the most unlike-an-IPA style IPA I've ever had. It didn't taste bad, it just wasn't anything I'd order again. The Red Sky Ale described as a lightly-hopped mild ale was that, and pretty much bland. I will tell you that the restaurant area was packed with what appeared to be a rehearsal dinner, but I think this place needs lots of improvement. My advice: go across the river to Schu's, which also has a great Lake Michigan view, excellent food, and great brews on tap from Arcadia in Battle Creek, Goose Island in Chicago, and a few others (like a good IPA from Roffey's, wherever they are.)
