A few of us stop in after work for the Thursday special --2 lbs of wings and a pitcher of beer. Trying to convert some co-workers from Blue,Canadian, and Coors Lite drinkers to truly tasty beers

Been a routine customer for years...and especially appreciate the fine dark wheat and esb produced by John in his spare time. That is the time he is not evaluating a fine rye. Kudos to the crew and the fine folk that frequent the Merchant...

The ESB was very good, and the stout was okay. Not much in the way of other flavorful beers on tap. Worth a stop if you are in the Niagara area because good beers are so hard to find around there.

We stopped into the Merchant Ale House for lunch on a Thursday, and were the only people in the place besides the bartender, and what must have been an off-duty employee. Both nice people, willing to help us with directions out of the place. The beer selection was terrific, I particularly enjoyed the Jumping Monkey Stout and the Mild Ale. I was also lucky enough to get some of their left-over Hazelnut Ale too. Good atmosphere here with a strong monkey theme. Loved everything except the food. Wife's fries were soggy, and I couldn't identify the other meat in my club sandwich.

MAH's beer selection is one of the best in St. Catharines. The food has come a long way. Definitely one of the best pub/bars in Downtown St. Catharines.

No generic beer here. All micro-brews and brewed in house, there are always interesting beers on tap. Watch for seasonal specials, I tried their Hazelnut Ale last year and it was superb. Also, always enjoy their gingerale when they make it.

The stout is pretty good. I also enjoyed the ESB, which was on a hand pump. Food was ok. This place is worth a stop.

The stout was definitely the winner with a soft undertone of oatmeal and a tasty finish. We had dinner their and the food was ok. It was a very quaint pub and would go back if I am traveling thru in the future.

I thought the beer at Merchant Ale House was the best I've had on several Ontario trips during the past six months. We had a wonderful Belgian-style ale and an excellent stout. The place itself is a rather typical pub and the crowd not particularly trendy or upscale. They had pub apptizers but not a full dinner menu. Our server seemed a little indifferent and could have been more attentive. The beer, however, more than made up for any deficiencies. I'll make a point to stop in again.
