I'm going to have to agree with everyone that felt this beer is weak. There is nothing even remotely craftlike about it; I tried the Blueberry (which, in retrospect, was probably a bad idea) and it was like Michelob with artificial flavoring added. Simply awful. Even the graphic design is lame.

I couln't agree more. Coastal Extreme for a craft brewery really is pretty lame. Their bland and whimpy Hurricane Amber Ale is totally forgetable, and for a craft beer, frankly, it sucks. Most of their "Storms of the Seasons" are equally as lame. The only beers I have ever been impressed with by this brewery is their one off speciality '00,'01, etc. I heard the brewer Derek? is a pretty cool guy, but the rest of the "boys of Coastal Extreme" are pretty much weenies who think they are "cool" because they own a piece of a brewery. I'm not surprised you said you felt like punching one of them.

yeah...the free beer at the tour is great because its free, other then that, the beer is ok. more marketing BS then anything, and lame at that...Coastal Extreme, thats shit, whats wrong with just Newport Brew Co., Plus I met the guys, one was cool, the others were totally weak and limited, i actually felt like punching one...Newport should be full of Newport Storm stuff, and the other day i heard them accidentally on Pro FM, 92.3, that alone will difer me from the beer, such association embarrasses me. good luck shit heads.

I went to the free tasting & tour on a Friday afternoon. 3 free pints of I.P.A. which was not bad. I had the amber at several eastablishments in the area, also not bad. Not exciting, but not bad.

The Amber Ale very clean smooth ale. Just right for sitting around and drinking several. They also produce four seasonal beers. In the the summer its an IPA, dry hopped just right to produce an excellent hop bouquet as you raise the glass to your face and a nice hop bite to let you know it is an IPA. Fall brings an Octoberfest. This is a Marzen style lager with a nice malty sweetness (this is my favorite). Winter is time for their Porter substantial with a nice hint of chocolate. Also at the end of the year they release a special once a year brew for the holidays. Every year this is a different recipe and usually has a high alcohol content. Spring has us drinking an Irish Red which is quite tasty and I feel a good example of the style. This brewery is one of the best things to happen on the beer scene lately!

This beer sucks. There is no other way to put it. Bland, tired, and weak. This is the best they can do in RI? "It's all about extremes"? Yeah, extemely bland and weak. They call this microbrew? Save you money folks, this swill isn't worth the price they over charge you for it. They better give it away free on their tour, that is the only way they could get some one excited about it. "Brewing up a storm"? What a bunch of marketing crap.

Out of the many breweries I have visited in the past, this one entailed the best service. The all-you-can-drink policy during the free tour was, I considered, a profound deviation from typical brewery tours. Furthermore, the guys running the garage-like brewery took an hosest interest in teaching visitors the entire brewing process step for step. I felt like I could instruct a class on brewing after just one of their tours, but not a class on driving after tasting much of their delicious hurricane amber ale. The garage out of which they brew is somewhat difficult to find, and the tours are only on friday afternoons. No needless restraunts, no arrogance, and no long lines. Costal Extreme serves as a model by which all breweries should emulate. I look forward to thier secret brew coming out in November. Two thumbs up!

Tried a few pints of Hurricane Amber at the Recess Pub in Providence last night. Unfortuanately this beer is still a huge dissapointment. Really not a whole lot going on here, faint hop character in the nose, thin body, slighty bitter finish. For a beer enthusiast, this beer really won't get you excited, and I can't see the Bud drinker paying the extra money for a beer with little more flavor than Bud. Its well made, but really a tame beer. The bottled version even tamer. I hoped it would improve, but tastes the same as it did a few months ago, bland. I understand their next beer is going to be a Golden ale? Lets hope its not a golden version of the Hurricane Amber.

The Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale was great. I missed the brewery tour and tasting of the other beers but if they are as good as the Amber I tried in a bar, they are winners!

Tried this beer first in bottles, found it to be very bland. Real dissapointing, it was a little more flavorful on draught, a bit more fruity, but still bland. Very timid beer for a micro beer drinker, tastes like a cross between a bad Sam Adams and a Coors Light. Hopefully they'll get a little more creative with the next offering. As it stands now, I find Costal Extemes anything but extreme.

This beer is good in the bottle, very good on tap, and right out of the finishing tank at the brewery it is the best amber ale I've had! Stop by for the tour.

This is now RI's only microbrewery. The beer is being marketed under the name "Newport Storm" and the first style to be introduced is the Hurricane Amber Ale. This is a mild yet characterful amber ale comprised of three different malts and noble hops. It is currently available on draft and will be in bottles by the end of July. All are welcome and encouraged to visit the brewery for a tour and a tasting.
