I LOVE THIS PLACE! Excellent selection, great staff, nice establishment. Had a few Pauwel Kwak, served in the proper glass.
I will definitely go back the next time I am in New Orleans.

8-10-06 Great place. Awesome selection of bottle beer. Karen took realy great care of us. We left before the music started (at 10:30 PM). Some distance from center of quarter but well worth a visit.

Good beer in New Orleans? I thought this was only a booze town. However, DBA does a pretty good impersonation of a high end beer bar. The place has a real classy appearance and is cleaner than you would expect. Nice wine list, single malt selection. Only a decent beer selection, but I would chalk that up to May being a transitional beer month. Enjoyed several Rogue products, a nice Chimay Cinq Cent, and even St. Bernardus 12. The bartenders were mainly disinterested in us being there or engaging in decent conversation. I think that's the norm in a city where you can walk out the door with a drink to perhaps never return. I will though.

We stayed near dba in the French Marigny area and stopped in for a nightcap on two occasions. The place is small, crowded, and smoky, especially when there's live music. The place is really not set up well for live music. The band is just jammed at the end of a narrow corridor. It's hard to get a beer, you have to elbow somebody up at the bar and try to get the bartender's attention. That said, they have the best selection of beer near the quarter, especially if you like Belgian beers. We were able to get a Duchesse de Bourgogne and De Dolle Oerbier, almost unheard of in Louisiana. The prices weren't bad considering, either. I think they were about $6 - 6.50. Definitely a younger crowd for the music, which we didn't care for much.

Stay away from there--yeah, that's it, they sell you into servitude--the beer's all hot and skunky--music no good, nothing but oom-pah bands and minuets--nobody ever goes, so you'll have no converstaion except with all those ugly girls behind the bar--and stay away from that silly place next door, Snug Harbor, where they can't even get any talent better than Charmaine Neville or the Marsalis family--d.b.a. is just trying to lure people to that boring Frenchmen Street where there's nothing good to do, nothing good to hear, nothing good to eat and, certainly, nothing good to drink. Oh, yeah, they only serve lite beer. ;->

I used to really dig this place before it got too popular and crowded and still attracted less of a mainstream crowd, but I still don't mind a visit to dba to hang and throw down a few.

this is the place to go in the big easy for beer. they don't brew but have a huge selection of stuff. i was told by a local that frenchman street is where all the locals hang out. she also told me that you really don't want to be walking around the surrounding streets, it can be a little rough. Definitly worth the cab ride from the quarter though. We were there on a saturday night and it was hopping. there are little cubbies in the front that you sit about 6 people and talk, nice touch. no service in there though so you have to get up and go to the bar. make it point to stop in if your in the cresent city.

The most impressive beer list I have ever encountered. Beers I have read about but never tasted, Sammichlaus, Skullsplitter, and more Belgian beers than I could ever hope to try. Though not a single malt, or rum afficionado, the lists were impressive. The bartenders were attentive, but gravitated more towards the locals. If you get hungry, or want to hear some high quality jazz, walk two doors down to Snug Harbor. I stayed in a B&B about 4-blocks from this place, and would have to disagree with an earlier reviewer concerning the safety of walking here from the quarter. I made the walk most every night around midnight to this part of town from Bourbon St., and was never concerned, nor saw reason to be. If you enjoy great beers, single malt scotch, or rum, be sure to make the extra effor to get here.

Has the largest selection of Belgian beers in the city, and the only one with Belgian beers on tap. It is also in the best neighborhood in the city. (I am about to buy a house there.) Prices are high, but when you are starved for great beer what else are you going to do?

This otherwise good bar has raised its prices to $5 and up for drafts. It is out of line. I no longer recommend the place. Other bars in town charge 3 or 4 dollars, sometimes less, for good beers.

Thanks to the previous Pubcrawlers for their advice on this GREAT place. Saw Ray Davies from the Kinks at the bar having a quiet german brew. In-freakin'-credible selection of drafts- Bluebird on tap! Good bands and a great jukebox. Go and say "hi" to Christine.A must stop for beer lovers and music lovers when in N'awlins.

I can't say enough good things about d.b.a. The beer selection has the highest quality to overall selection of anywhere I've been. All that I was familiar with were top rate and I can only assume that the ones I didn't know were of the same caliber. Lindemans Framboise on tap! Are you kidding me? Great Dark rum, tequila, single malt,... etc. selection. A real cozy laid back atmosphere on a Friday afternoon. Good conversation with cool eclectic tunes. My only complaint is that my visit was way too short. Be selective who you tell about this place. It is way too cool to ruin.

Frenchmen Street is in the Fauburg Marigny, by the edge of the French Quarter. There are several blocks of real music places, not the Bourbon Street tourist traps. You may go there to listen to the music, but if (well, when...)you get thirsty, stop at DBA's. They don't brew beer, they don't have a massive selection. They don't sell bud or miller, let alone lite. They don't sell food. They have the best selection of the best beers in town. Someone there knows his or her stuff, because they have the best national and international beers in New Orleans. And there are not not so many that they turn over slowly, so the beer is fresh.

Had around 25 taps and 100 bottles to choose from. Also had a large selection of quality spirits. I had Rogue Ballard Bitter and Fuller's London Porter on tab and they were both excellent and fresh. Read in a regional brewing magazine that all their taps are combo CO2 and nitro. Could not verify this with bartender because they were very busy. About 1/2 mile from French Quarter, so it is a little bit of a walk if you are visiting NO, like I was.

This is currently the BEST place to hang out in New Orleans. I've been pretty much everywhere and at every opening and they all are filled with patrons without substance or taste. This pub is laid back, but stylish and hip and so are the staff and regulars. I don't want this bar to become #1...I don't want the "cheeze" to tarnish it's perfect ambiance.

All of the many Beers (bottle and draught) were in first rate condition, and well taken care of. The Bonus was truly magnificent live music on 3 nights of the 4 I was there during June. The staff were great and the clientele was diverse and interesting. Lots of good conversations with fellow ale-hounds etc.... and not just about beer. This alone made it more fun than the d.b.a. in New York. When you get tired of the "noisy enforced fun" of bourbon street check out the d.b.a. It is one of my favorite bars in the USA. Highly Recommended. One Caveat:their website lists handpumped ales at both NYC and N.O. locations. This is not the case (NYC only).

I'll give a little higher review of the service -- one of the bartenders (Michael?) was very helpful, when we went on a slow Monday night. We were impressed with the selection, the price, the music (and the amount of good-looking gals :-)

d.b.a. is in fact its name. Lower case, no spaces. We read about d.b.a. in a local entertainment paper while in the Quarter and started walking. It is not easy to find. You have to walk all the way down Decatur past Esplanade. Decatur then turns into Frenchmen's. If you are going to do this at night, you probably want to be in a group or take a taxi. A daytime walk is fine. d.b.a. opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 4 a.m. (5 a.m. on Fri/Sat.) They do not serve food, not even snacks. There are 20 beers on tap, including several micros. There is also a large selection of bottled beer carefully organized on the chalkboard by country of origin. There was a large selection of Belgians, including Lindeman's Framboise and Peche on tap. The draught Lambics at $4.50 for an 8-ounce glass represented an excellent value. I had an Anchor Porter and my partner had a Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout. Both were outstanding. It appears they keep their lines clean. Whoever runs this establishment knows their beers. There was a 2-piece blues combo - including John Carey. They were the perfect accompaniment to a fine afternoon. One negative for balance - the bartender did not seem to know her beers and was not able to provide answers to the first few of what would have been many questions. This is a problem because with such a wide selection of beers that you are unlikely to find elsewhere, some expert guidance would be helpful. Notwithstanding, this is a must-go-to-place.
