The put-in-bay brewing company was the most disappointing stop on an otherwise great trip to put-in-bay. Drinking their beer was absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. I tried their dark nut ale. The beer was lifeless and left a horrible aftertaste. Other members of my party sampled their other beers, but no one could get through a pint. When I say lifeless I mean they looked more like a glass of juice than a pint of beer. The food was equally disgusting. The steak had a taste to it that led me to believe that either the kitchen or the "chef" (and I use that term loosely) was unclean. The food was so bad that I and another member of my party became physically sick after eating. I am considering filing a complaint with the department of health. The only good thing about this place is the people. While we were there two very smart and funny guys treated the restaurant to an improvised rendition of Hey Jude that had everyone (except for the lifeless staff) laughing. If you go to put-in-bay there are alot of great places to go have a beer and get some food. Don't waste your time here.

This,by chance of luck, ended up being my second stop in a baseball/beer swing thru Ohio/Pennsylvania.Enroute Toledo from Cleveland on 7/24 had time to catch the ferry over to South Bass Island. What a trip. Not only is there history with the impressive Perry Monument/Peace Memorial but they have to have the biggest fleet of golf carts per square mile than Florida and Arizona combined and they are for rent to the casual tourist.I opted for the $2 bus ride(one-way)from the ferry landing to the heart of the action.Put-in-Bay BC isn't quite on the main drag but, hey,it's a small island. They offer up three of their own brews to go along with a half dozen guest taps and a full bar.Started off with a Great Lakes BC Dortmunder Gold before going to the house brews, Ole Cotton Top(Irish Red) and the Fat Mans Friend(Stout).Nothing spectacular here but I love their slogan. "We're all here because we're not all there." My take on that is, if you are out there, you might as well go there.

Been comming to the brewery since it opened. Was there for at least 20 times, this year. I drink their lager and summer brew only. The owner Mr. Kruger, will most often stop and ask you how you like the stuff. Just tell him. Jim Fisher Clarksville ohio.

The beer was ok. It was disapointing to not have any ales or lagers that they've brewed and serving. They had a porter and summer brew. Everyone was friendly and the service was great. It was a good alternative to the other bars on the island was definately worth the visit. I'm glad they had PBR on draft.

ok i strongly disagree with the comments made about the staff at the put in bay brewery.....while they are very beautiful ,they are also very intelligent, witty and friendly.while we were there they provided us with excellent sevice as well as good company. as far as the beer that they brew is concerned you have to remember that this bar is only open for half the year and that the bar is pretty small considering that it is a brewery. im a big fan of wheat beer and thought the "summer brew" was a refreshing change to the normally flat wheats that ive tasted at other brew pubs......and the bartenders knew alot about the brewing process.I thought this bar was a nice change of pace for the putinbay experience by offering a menu and an atsomphere that no other bar offers......beauty,brains,great beer, and personality.(and one hell of a chicken burritto)

being a Pubcrawler, it is kind of hard to favorably review this place since only one brew is offered, this being a true to form dunkelweisen. However, it is pretty good and since this place is really catering to a party/resort kind of atmosphere (just go there around one o'clock and you'll see what I mean), I would say that it is a decent place to get a GOOD beer instead of some nasty bud or such. And also, cheap pizza for those late night munchies!!

I'm a Put-In-Bay regular and didn't even know this place existed, even though I have been in the gift shop right next door. I can see why after visiting. While the facility itself was nice, the service was lousy. It's as if they try to go out of their way to ignore you, even when you can count the total number of patrons on one hand. The bartenders/waitreses were beautiful, but sadly I am afrid this may be a classic case of beauty before brains.

I visited this brewpub on 6/05/03. This brewpub only brews one beer. Currently they have available a wheat beer. We were the only customers in the brewpub at the time and the service was not very good. The menu did not match what they were serving and the server was not aware of any changes. It was a hard trip to get out to the island and it was not worth the visit. Maybe the service will improve as the season gets into full swing. Pint glasses were available for sale with the logo on it, but don't put it in the dishwasher or it will wash off. On a side note I just can't respect a brewpub that has a sign in the window stating "Budwieser Proudly Served Here".

With having only one beer that is So So, they do offer a variety of beer on tap that is hard to find on the Island. Along with having the best pizza, I just have to say that the all female staff is both beautiful and charming.

While I did like their "summer brew," it was their ONLY beer. They did provide us with some live entertainment (Ray Fogg), which was relatively funny.

Only had one of their own beers on tap - some kind of "summer wheat" concoction. It was drinkable, but I'm not sure what it was supposed to be. Many other beers available. It's really just another bar on the island.

Extract, baby extract. You can see the drums of malt extract through the window. Pretty sure they produce beer just so they can get a liquor licence in an already conjested area.

Everything's relative. Compared to all of the white trash miller-lite bars on the "strip", this place is a welcome escape. Compared to Great Lakes, Maumee Bay, or just about any other microbrewery in the region that tries, it's a major disappointment. The beers here are VERY thin.
