First visit to the Brew Keeper following their move and Buckeye's establishing the Beer Engine. Their new business info is: 34445 Center Ridge Rd, North Ridgeville, Ohio, phone: (440) 377-6599.

12 of their own brews and 8-10 guests (25 or so bottles, too). I liked the Hop Fusion best, it leaned toward malty as many of the beers here do. Dopplebock pretty good, hints of dried fruit while White Storm was an Imperial Cream Ale--at 11% it's very drinkable (lots of vanilla) and equally dangerous. Talked quite a bit with the brewer and some fellow beer travelers--a good time. Many people were taking advantage of the BOP and creating their own brews. Let's hope business stays good and the Cleveland area continues to have so many fine options for those who love beer!

buckeye is now the buckeye beer engine located in lakewood (west of cleveland). great beer location that has their own great house beers along with 20-25 guest drafts and a great bottle selection. their menu features hamburgers of all kinds. they do not have the BOP (brew on premise / brew your own) equipment. http://buckeyebeerengine.com/

the brew keeper is located in north ridgeville (further west of cleveland). they have many house selections along with some guest drafts. they also have a full menu. they DO have the BOP (brew on premise / brew your own) equipment. i have had their brews in bottle and at festivals and its good but i have never visited the brewpub. http://www.brewkeeper.com/

I believe they did close this location but if I'm not mistaken they opened a couple new locations. One in North Ridgeville called the Brewkeeper and a place in Lakewood called the Beer Engine.

Stopped by on my last visit to town before the move to new locations. Was told that Buckeye will be moving to West St. as a production brewery while Brew Keeper will move to North Ridgeville as a BOP, brewpub/restaurant (much like Brew Kettle, I would guess). Beers were good, but not as awesome as Buckeye. Irish Red was ala Killians, Milk Stout slightly sweet and coffeeish, while Double Chocolate Stout at 7% was right on the edge of being way too drinkable. Bourbon Stout was nice and not too much of the bourbon, pretty well balanced. XXXmas at 11% was spiced with orangey sweetness--very sneaky AND dangerous! Good luck to all on the future moves!

Now that Ive moved to AZ, this is the first place I go everytime i get home. Great atmosphere, amazing beers, a dart board, and everything else you would want in a pub. Never too crowded and make sure you call first if you plan on getting there late, they kind of close when ever they feel like it. I love this place.

Ducked in here just as a downpour started and didn't have to worry about going back outside any time soon. Several house beers were new to me, and at happy hour prices, I could easily afford to try a few small ones. Affinity Lager, Marzen, and Irish Red were all nice; clean and tasty. Double Chocolate Stout was very good, with most of the chocolate noticable in the finish. Magnum IPA was very good also with a very "green" hop flavor, if you like that kind of bittering. My favorite this trip was Hop Fusion, well-balanced and spicy, a keeper. Word is out that they'll be moving the brewing operation and perhaps also have a brewpub coming in the next few months. Check out their website to get the info.

A weird little place, but weird in a good sort of way. It's weird in that when you first walk in, there's a homebrewing store, followed by a brewery, followed by the bottling area and a little bar in the back. It's certainly nothing fancy, but the bartenders and locals are friendly. The beers are good, and they have a nice selection of local brews as well as national and international. Worth a stop or two, but only for the more serious beer enthusiast.

Stopped in recently, what a great place. Too many brewpubs are big chains that only want to take as much money out of your wallet as possible. This place is the exact opposite, it's all about beer. You can brew your own here, and the beer they brew is AWESOME. When you walk in the place, you smell beer being brewed. This place is like a playground for Beer. I love it.

This place is interesting. Nice beers they do in-house (Amarillo IPA was delicious, also had the sweetish and light Martian), and a good selection of "guest" beers - Delirium Tremens on tap, as well as Bell's Old Ale for starters. Service was a little slow at times, but not too bad.

It's like you're drinking great beer in someone's garage. Dark and too smoky (at least while I was there) but very relaxing nonetheless - definitely not a tie and jacket crowd. A pretty cool stop overall.

This bar has quickly become my regular stop off for a quick after work beer. I am always greeted personally by the friendly staff, including Garin the Brewkeeper himself. The beer selection has always been good if not excellent, but I do miss not having the '76 on tap during the winter months. I've never heard anyone complaining about the cleanliness of the place. I have brewed there a couple of times over the last few months and didnt see any issue with sanitation. If you know about brewing beer, you know that bacteria is really bad for the beer. Garin keeps the brewing area very clean and the bar area is no worse than any other bar I have been to. In fact, its probably on of the cleaner ones. I have certainly never seen any flies divebombing my beer in all the times I've hung out there. Ignore the bad comments, make an effort to visit the place, sample the beers and chat to Garin. You wont regret it.

My husband liked it, but he's a hop head, while I prefer maltier brews. I have to agree with the earlier posting on cleanliness- this is the dirtiest brewery I've ever been to. Allowing smoking doesn't help, either. We thought about brewing there, but not after seeing the lack of sanitation. It was a drag to have to shoo away flies from our beers while choking on cigarette smoke. The band that night was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation. A couple young guys were smoking a joint in the parking lot when we left, so its not at all a family friendly place. I was disappointed since it had come highly recomended by a friend. My husband will probably go back for the IPA, but I won't.

Sean,I have good news and bad news.1st the good.I agree with you about the clean up of this place. Not a spot you would want to take a 1st date{unless she can drink more than you}.I did here someone mention about a new location.I was a little bombed to here any details though.Sorry.Now the bad.Your posting was on the 9th.Well on the 10th and 11th Buckeye had a Belgium and Big Beer Fest. They had 23,plus who knows how many brewski's in back on tap.5 beers from Belgium,.Also Co.,Mi.,Pa.,Ca.,Ill.,Germany and of course Buckeye had 5 of their own.I lot a people asking for the Nostradamus form Belgium. My favorite,Buckeye Goldern Ho-Ho-Ho,Northcoast Old Stock Ale,11%,Northcoast Imperial Stout,Scaldis from Belgium and my new favorite, New Holland Dragons Milk Bourbon Aged Dark which was oaky, smooth as silk and rated 10%.WOW.Totally awesome. This was a event not to be missed. That explains why the beer list was a little short at that time.Party on.

I was really counting on this place to be the beer Shangi-La of my visit to Cleveland. Compared to the other reviews, I may have caught it on an off night. Very short list of beers, only one of their own (Hippie IPA) and one guest tap (Rogue Old Crustacean) that I wanted to try. I am very in favor of the spartan, all-about-the-beer atmosphere (a la McNeill's in VT) but it was just a little too rundown, a little too disorganized and not up to a minimum acceptable cleanliness. I say this with all respect intended to the proprietors: All the pieces are there, close the doors for a week, look around, clean the place from top to bottom, organize it a tad and catch up on the brewing. When the beer dive-bombing fruit flies leave on their own you'll be ready to establish rightful greatness again.

Business must be very good at Buckeye Brewing. I couldn't find any of their product to take home except at the brewery--good for them! The beer at the pub was great as usual--the Hippie IPA has never tasted better, or fresher. A great Saturday early evening crowd was enjoying 7 of their styles and 5 guest taps when I arrived. Several locals were brewing as well. This is a diamond in the rough, folks!

Can't give an awesome rating for the Beer Selection as there were only 5 beers on tap. The Hippie IPA was simply outstanding - nice floral bouquet. I would classify this as a BOP with a taproom. Real dart board in the back is a nice touch.

What a cool place! It is a little spartan looking, but their beers are great, and they always have a select few outside beers that are excellent. Their '76 IPA is quite possibly my favorite beer. They brew a few IPAs, but to me '76 is in league of its own, even ahead of the elite like Stone and Dogfish 60. It is a little bigger than Stone IPS and Dogfish 60, but not as big as Stone Ruination and Dogfish 90. It is just perfectly between those, bursting with hop freshness, but balanced enough to not finish too bitter.

Just getting around to writing about Kentucky Derby Day at Buckeye. As a special treat, JW Lees in the oak sherry cask was being poured. What a great way to spend an hour! Of course, all of the house beers were killer, like always! '76 is such a mouth-explosion of hops that I wish I had brought a few more bottles along home right now. It was a unique experience as a bachelorette party was getting started there. (Apparently all the ladies had brewed their own beer weeks before and were bottling that day!) I never saw so many Lindemans being poured in one evening! But that's what's great about this place--no fear of someone else's beer! Can't wait to get back (hopefully soon!)

This past week a few of us went on a brewpub crawl in the Cleveland area. Buckeye was the best and that includes Great Lakes. I am a self described hop head, and Buckeye has 3 IPA's! 76 IPA is the best, it was so fresh and just bursting of hops. I also really enjoyed their Imperial Porter, which was a huge and tasty beer. This place is a no frills brew house that sits in a very nondescript building, but I loved it! The new bar maid, Dawn, was extremely friendly and talkative. She wasn't your typical no it all, snotty bar help that has become all too common. Buckeye also provides very good beers from other breweries as well.

I finally made an appointment to redeem the Gift Certificate to brew my own beer that my fiance, Amy, had given me a long while ago. I brought 8 friends to experience the event, sample the brews and have dinner we brought in from the restaurant next door. I bought the first of many rounds and quickly decided to brew their Porter Ale. Gavin and his assistant(and a few regular brewers) quickly got me following the well laid-out printed receipe sheet. I measured out the grains etc and brewed my wort. We had it "kegged" after about 2 hours of good-natured fun. My crew really loved the friendly atmosphere visiting/learning/drinking with the staff/brewers/bottlers/patrons that make up the best brewery/bar ever. I am looking forward to bottling in a few weeks. Do you think I'll have a problem finding another support crew. Not likely!!! Thanks to all and lets brew another batch again in a few months.

Where else will you find Piraat and Goulden Drak on draft? Where else will you find some of the best microbrews in Cleve (sorry, not at GL anymore!) And, their own brews are outstanding. No atmosphere, it smells of old beer and cigars (not a bad thing). Order food from nearby restaurants and take-in. Really, really, worth going to...and you can brew your beer there as well! This may be the best place in Cleveland (RR Brewing is #2, and GLB and Quarryman follow up...)

Outstanding beer. My friends from Cleveland that we were visiting had never heard of the place and almost didn't want to go in when we found it - it doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside it smelled just like my garage on a Monday night - they were brewing several small batches in what appeared to be a brewing class. They had a really nice selection of beers - even a Lambic.
