The Day Brewing Company became Big Easy Brewing Company early this year. Day’s Louisiana Lager, the original beer of Day Brewing, still seems to be around. It reminds me of a moderately hoped European lager. The new flagship beer is Big Easy Beer, a light gold lager with a bit of hops. It is commonly found on draft around New Orleans, and is reported to soon be available in bottles. Lagniappe Beer is an amber or copper colored brew which is flavorful but not overly so. I first tried it bottled several years ago when it was contract brewed by Celis, and had it again recently on tap during a visit to New Orleans. Lagniappe is the best of the three in my opinion. The brewer is Doug Lindley, formerly of the Acadian Brewing Co. Other beers are expected.

Big Easy Brewing Company purchased the Day's Brewery and is presently brewing Big Easy Beer an American Premium, Big Easy Amber and under contract Lagniappe Beer. Big Easy Beer is available on tap and in bottles. Big Easy Amber is available on tap and will be available in bottles in late fall. Thanks

Big Easy is now brewing 3 beers. Big Easy, a fine pilsener, Day's, a lager, and Lagniappe, another lager but a contract beer. Note that this is a microbrewery not a brewpub. But Doug is a friendly guy and may show you around if you call in advance. They seem to be off to a good start and hope to expand.

The Day Brewing Co. began in 1999 when brewer Sonny Day began producing Day’s Louisiana Lager. This beer is now available on draft and in bottles throughout much of Louisiana. Day’s Lager has a deep gold color and a moderate hop character. I felt like I was drinking a quality European lager. You will not confuse this beer for Bud. Recently, new brewmaster Doug Lindley, formerly the brewing force at the now defunct Acadian Brewing Co., has come on board and is beginning to produce some other beer styles. The first to join the Day lineup is Creole Amber, a Vienna-style lager that will be available on draft this fall and in bottles early in 2003. Since Doug’s Vienna Lager at Acadian earned a bronze medal at the 1998 GABF, I would expect this version from Day Brewing to be a good representation of the Vienna style. There are also some contract brews in the mix.
