My wife and I stumbled on this place a couple days ago (early Oct 2008) and absolutely loved it! I had a Bass ale (well, a couple), and my wife had the hard core (a hard cider). We split an order of scottish egg which seemed to be basically a boiled egg inside a sausage ball and deep fried. As a redneck, how can ya go wrong with deep fried anything!!?? It was delicious, the beer was great, and the service was outstanding. Granted, we were there at about 3pm, so no crowds. We had a wonderful time though, sitting on the deck, chatting with our new found friends from Canada who so graciously brought up our jackets from the car, and just enjoying the scenery and atmosphere. The friendly cats in the parking lot only added to our enjoyment, as we have 4 of our own. We had planned on an early day, getting back to the cabin and just relaxing, but we both enjoyed the couple hours we spent at the Fox and Parrot. We'll be back.

We enjoyed our visit to the Fox and Parrot and found the menu items all available and the beer refreshing. The atmosphere was family oriented and casual. Unfortunately, we were not able to use the deck as the weather was too hot.
Our waiter was accomodating, friendly, and knowledgable about the area. We appreciated the good service and enjoyed the conversation with other patrons and the staff. We even learned a few new and interesting facts about the British Isles!
Another visit is definately in our plans for our return trip to the area. ...especially for the Shepards Pie.

We frequented the 'pub' for the first and only time in July of 2006 and as a newly arrived Brit myself, was looking with insatiable appetite for some authentic food and drink to show my Indiana girlfriend/wife-to-be. We checked it out at one point and found it to be closed...then one afternnoon to our 'delight', found it open and with a few people heading in the same direction as ourselves. We sat at the table and eventually (probably 20 minutes) the 'waiter' came and offered us drinks and brought a menu. After three attempts at ordering my drink ("sorry, we're out of stock") and then at least five attempts at food ("we only have Shepherds pie or Fish and Chips") we ordered one of each to be told that the Shepherds pie was cooking as we speak. The waiter was surly and basically crap at what he was doing. Forty five minutes later with our drinks gone ages ago and with no refill, we left $10 for the drinks and left.
For a pub to offer all that 'good' English food and only have Shepherds Pie, Fish and Chips and Guinness - and NO DESSERTS!!!!!! we will try to tell EVERYONE we know NOT to go there. Avoid it at all costs!!!!

As a local I try to support local businesses when I can, but this place has degraded to pure crap. I used to frequent this place not long after they first opened and even though the beer was spendy, it was worth it for the non smoking atmosphere. We always got good service and good beer. My brother, myself, and our girlfriends even spent a low key New Years Eve there in 2001, and had a great time. That being said, I recently returned over the Thanksgiving holiday for the first time in a few years, and wow has this place gone downhill. My first clue should have been the frighteningly cheesy duo lounge act that was providing the "entertainment". This keyboard/brass duo made the house band at the Dresden in Swingers(for those movie buffs)look like James Taylor & Carly Simon. It was packed with tourists, which is not unusual, but getting served was brutal, damn near impossible. Finally when someone came over to the table, that we cleared for ourselves, it was a Harry Potter lookalike that couldn't have been a day over 14 years old(the owner's son I guess). He didn't return for at least 10 min, so we took it upon ourselves to go to the bar to order a few beers. It was there that I met the snotty, condescending English bartender that looked like a poor man's Crocodile Dundee. He then rudely and begrudgingly took our order. However, he also took turns snubbing my girlfriend, my sister-in-law and myself in subsequent visits to said bar in lieu of wait service at the table. This, needless to say, started fueled pissed off engine nicely, but this was just a harbinger of things to come. The great irony of it all was that I recognized the owner sitting a nearby table with a group of friends(that explains why our illegally young, so called waiter eventually took our order for overpriced, undersized and extra bland (even for British/Irish)fare. We were given several excuses as to why the service was so slow,(they were just slammed, and by slammed they had to have at least 25-30 patrons, God I can't believe the fire marshall didn't shut them down), but no explanation for the complete lack of respect. The owner never bothered to look up from his minions of self important neuvo riche transplants to see how the evening was going for once loyal customers who spread the word to locals about how cool the place back when it opened, but I digress. After finishing the drinks we were eventually able to abscond with, I was so pissed that I just wanted to get the Hell out of the place. After dropping $75 for 2 pitchers of beer, 2 ciders, 1 order of Shepherd's pie and 1 fish & chips. We took our leave of this once cool little pub. I left out several other ridiculous incidents that just added to the pure pleasure of the even as this review is getting into novel length. Do yourself a favor, if you do find yourself in the Great Smoky Mountains and are thirsting for a good beer, go to the Smoky Mountain Brewery and order a Tuckaleechee Porter, and for the love of God and your own mother avoid this joke of a "pub" at all costs.

When I try to remind myself of the normalcy of finding good beer in larger metropolitan areas or in nearby Western North Carolina, I sojourn the backroads east of tourist-laden Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg up to Glades Road in the Art and Crafts District. The Fox and Parrot Tavern is welcome relief in this boisterous and overcrowded tri-city grease stain in the lovely Smoky Mountains.
Guiness, Bass, and Newcastle are only some of the brews available on tap. Althought the draught selection may not be as big as at other places, the choices are high in quality. The tavern has a great selection of import and regional bottled beer, although some of the choices are swiftly disappearing from the cooler shelves. (If anyone drinks the last of a certain Norwegian Bock beer...heads are gonna roll!!!) East Tennessee beer distributors just do not have the discerning taste of malted barley and hops nor the insight to provide merchants with the variety some of us suds drinkers seek.
There is a very nice deck upon which to sit and bask away in the evening. The tavern is situated on the side of a holler nestled in the mountains. I have spent several evenings listening to the crickets chirp and the resident chickens peep. The friendly dog Duncan keeps vigil over all the fauna at the tavern...however, I do regret the absence of Jack, the former resident goat that used to wander about the property. (Word is he threatened to butt a few patrons.)
Do try the European-styled menu. The fish and chips are outstanding. Give old Duncan the dog a friendly pat on the head. God smiles when you're nice to animals. But most of all, kick back and enjoy the beer in this nice, laid-back place!

This place is really out of the way but very worth finding if you are looking for a great selection of micros. Although they consider themselves a Brit style pub(they have an english pub menu and a beer engine though not in use when I was there) this place is more like someones basement that was converted into a place for friends to hand out. I do not consider this negative.
When I was there they had Cottonwood Endo IPA(grapefruity even grapefruit pith in its hop character and malt to back it up), some Highland Brewing products, the ever-horrible Rocky River swill, and a great selection of bottles(they will sell you bottles to go and it is your best bet since I cannot find a decent bottle selection at any of the local stores).
I did not try the food but the service kindof lacked. The bartender, a young Brit who had been in the states for only a couple of weeks, tried to force every newcomer to the bar on a crappy golden ale they had on tap(I took the free 4oz sample and could not finish it, that was when I switched to the ENDO). He went far enough when a gent entered the bar and asked for a pale ale he suggested he should try the golden. The guy replied I did not ask for a golden I want a pale ale. The barkeep did not even know he had 3 pales(or variations of on tap). His suggestion to the patron was to look around the walls at the bottle selection a choose one from there. He did nothing else to help him in his selection.
That said this is still the best selection in the area and well worth seeking out.

Tucked away in the middle of the main road thru the noted Arts & Crafts Trail on the edge of Gatlinburg is this little gem. The barroom is on the second floor atop a photography gallery in a neat, rough-hewn, semi-secluded log structure. Amenities include an outdoor deck, wood burning fireplace, big-ass TV and darts.
On tap are a number of locally produced brews as well as a large selection of bottled choices. Names represented include Rocky River, New Knoxville, Guiness (on nitro tap), Bass and other Enlgish ales.
For the hungry there's a small food menu that features several English-theme items like fish & chips and shephard's pie.
If you find yourself in the Gatlinburg or Smokies area, be sure you visit this out-of-the ordinary find. It's not hard to get to but you might want to ask for directions to the Buckhorn Trail/Art& Crafts Community - which is another delight in itself.
