Fries is a dive bar. If you like dive bars, you'll love Fries. The stench of pinesol is overwhelming. The mens' urinals are way too high, even for a 6' tall man. You feel like everything you touch has a layer of old cigarette smoke on it. Sometimes they have live music... it is WAY too loud for the small space they have the band setup in. The jukebox is great though. The outside is RARELY used because there is nothing out there except seating. Why not put another bar there... oh yeah, because NO ONE goes to this bar. Playing pool in the basement is like being in a dungeon. Small ceilings and unfinished concrete walls make you feel like you're in a dungeon with the stale stench of beer and pinesol. It has GREAT potential, but I think the owners are reluctant to put any money into the place because they won't see any more profit generated from it. My mantra for this place has always been "If you build it , they will come". I live in the neighborhood and I would much rather go to Arlins where they have a cleaner atmosphere, good food and an awesome back patio.

The owner is getting more and more commited to American Craft beer in general. The single rotating faucet has turned into 2 rotating faucets. Bells Pale Ale, Great Lakes Moondog, and Barrelhouse Octoberfest were the current selections today. There is talk of removing Guinness and rotating an American Craft dark ale.

My favorite local bar. The owner is now doing a rotating tap handle for micros. He switches it about every 3 weeks. Things just keep getting getting better.

Fries is a dive bar. Unless things have changed drastically since I've been there (approximately 2 years ago), Fries is like an abandoned western saloon. The paint is peeling off the walls, window panes are broken and taped shut, there in not one chair, stool or table in the place that sits squarely on the floor, the shuffleboard table has no finish on it and is worn down to the bare wood, the bocce ball court upstairs is unkept and it looks like nothing besides a cursory sweep and wiping off of the tables has gone on as far as cleaning. Having said that, there is something about the place that is endearing. It has a spirit. And really, that it looks like a dump doesn't bother me. It's the kind of place to go and get so drunk you vomit on the floor, but then don't feel so bad because the place is only slightly classier than a crackhouse.

This is a great place to hang out. The selection of micros is always increasing and the owner is actually scouting out a new cooler to increase it even more. No pretention here, just a great place to go.

This is truely one of the great watering holes in Cincinnati. Alot of history here and located close to the University of Cincinnati campus. From 5-7pm expect to see an older crowd getting off work and enjoying one of the better selections in the campus area. As the evening goes on the crowd usually gets younger.
Fries is a deceptively huge place. Initially all you see is a view of the lower level pool hall and the main bar area. But there is much more. The pool area is quite large and there are upper levels that include a huge, outdoor beer garden and overflow areas to sit.
They always have bottle specials and a decent selection but the draft seems to never change. It is a well rounded selection that includes Sierra Pale and our local micro-Barrelhouse, but this never changes unfortunately. That aside this is a must stop.
