Like both the Madison and the Fitchburg locations. Hear they are opening at Hilldale also but can't brew there because of some Wisconsin law limiting the amount of brewpubs one owner can have(or something like that). Anyway, their beers are fantastic and the service is usually pretty good. Both locations have outdoor seating, which is great when it's nice out. Both have different atmospheres though, so you have to try both places out.

Scotch Ale was very good. Also had the cask conditioned IPA which must have been an English style as it wasn't as hoppy as most American varieties. I also tried the Foxy Brown and the Imperial Stout, both were good.

Was there on a Tuesday night so the place wasn't too busy. The service and food were both good. Pints are a bit on the pricey side at $4.

I will certainly return as the hotel I stay at when I come to Madison on business is right across the street. I'll have to try the other location and see how it fares with the Fitchburg location.

Wow was this place LOUD on a Friday night! Sadly they were out of the Scotch Ale, so I settled for their Athens Amber. Nice and caramelly, with a surprisingly hoppy finish. Also tried the ESB, what a great beer! Especially as it warmed up.

They had an excellent Imperial Stout available during my most recent visit. Most of their beers are quite good and brewed to style. While they hae some variations, there is a great deal of overlap between this Great Dane and the downtown Madison original. The smoking area is only in the upper level, so you can pretty much avoid smoke if you stay in the lower level. Separate bars and dining is available on both levels. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town...but if I could only go to one, it would be the downtown pub.

This place opened in December 2002. At this writing they are still new, & are still in a learning curve.

The selections vary from the downtown location, with numerous dishes named after the streets & subdivisions in this part of town. It's of the same good quality of the fare at the downtown location, moderatedly priced with fairly generous portions.

A couple can expect to spend $30-$40 plus tips. Expect something of a wait, especially on Badger game days.
