First, this is not technically a brewpub, but is better described as a "tied house". The beer is brewed on the "Big Island" and sent to the pub on Oahu.
For the most part the beer is very good and true to style. I really like the IPA, which had a lovely hop aroma and just enough, but not overpowering bitterness. I also like the Fire Rock Pale Ale, which was very refreshing, and the seasonal Wailua Wheat Ale that would be a perfect lawn mowing beer if I could get it in Illinois! I did not like the coffee porter, but that is just me, as it is not a style I like--if you want a porter with overpowering coffee overtones, this is the beer for you. I much preferred their regular porter.
The venue is very nice. Since I was alone I sat at the bar, but there are seats on on patio overlooking a marina that looked like a nice way to while away an evening.
I was very impressed with the knowledge of the bartenders--they were able to answer all my questions about the beer (I should have asked which was the coffee porter, so I could have avoided it, but, alas, I didn't.)
The food was good. I had a mixed grill that featured their own barbaque sauce that was very tastee.
I rated this place awesome, and would rate it awesome plus if I could. Why? Because, unless you are already living there, you a drinking good craft beer in HAWAII! What can be more awesome than that?

Visiting Hawaii and had to find Kona Brewing. We had the Wailua Wheat, great beer, really enjoyed it. Followed up with Big Wave Golden Ale, also a great beer. Overall the beer was outstanding and the service was also super. Recommend the Koko Marina Pub to those traveling to Hawaii.

My wife and I stopped in during our vacation last week for a beer and snack. Had the Pipeline Porter - great roasted coffee aroma and flavor. We enjoyed our appetizer, the Mauna Loa Volcano Rolls. Would recommend stopping in, if you're exploring in the area (it's close to Hanauma Bay, a popular snorkling spot).

I really liked the beer here, the hef and the porter are my favs. They have a sampler, which is really nice. i havent tried any of their seasional beers yet. Im from the big island and used to go to the main brewery alot, and the one in honolulu (hawaii kai) is just as good, if not better (the main brewery on big island is hard to find and parking is a mess, also the pizzas take forever)

I had a sampler that included a wheat, hef, red, and porter they all were good but the porter and the hef. were excellent. when the bartender saw me enjoy the beer he brought over two of the seasonals(no charge) and they were good but I stuck with the hef. the rest of the night. The staff was great and the atmosphere was fun, I will be back!

I think the Kona Brewing Company is one of the best restaurants/brew bars in the Honolulu area. The atmosphere tops Gordon Biersch, which is too touristy, and is more relaxed than Brew Moon (do you really need a bathroom attendant at a brew bar?). The food is good, but is pricey.

I did not go, but I sent my Mom. She brought me back an awesome glass and tales of sun, surf and awesome brews. She tried a longboard lager and enjoyed it greatly. She struggled to describe the taste but said it was crisp and finished very clean. Next was the awesome porter that is brewed with real Kona coffee. Her exact words? "To die for!" Good job Mom!

I didn't expect to find such high quality beer in Hawaii, but this place has beers that are every bit as good as the west coast of the mainland. Their IPA and porter are outstanding, and the red ale and pale ale are great as well. Food selection is a bit limited, but it's good food. The view from the outdoor patio is great! This place is a bit of a drive from Honolulu, but well worth the trip.

Nice location with outside tables on the Koko Marina. Had red and the stout which were both very good. The Captain Cook pizza was also good.

The beer was very good. I especially liked the Fire Rock (something like that--I can't remember the name!) Our server wasn't great, but I don't usually hold that against the restaurant. There aren't a lot of choices on the menu. Pupu's, pizza or sandwiches mostly, but the sandwiches were to die for!!!! Don't go expecting a cheap meal -- I believe the sandwiches were about $8-10 dollars apeice. I suggest you take advantage of their beer sampler--it's a good deal, and you get to try several different flavors of beer! They gave us an excellent table overlooking the marina, so overall it was a great experience. I will definately go back!

The highly successful Kona Brewing Company from the Big Island has finally opened a brewpub on Oahu. It is located in Hawaii Kai overlooking the Koko Marina. It has been open for about two weeks now and, like any new establishment, is still working out some of the kinks. I have visited twice and have come away pretty impressed. In addition to their standard three brews that can be found bottled throughout the islands, they had 7 additional offerings plus 3 "seasonal" brews. None were terrible, although many were not particularly distinctive. However, their hefe, IPA, pale ale, and porter were quite good. I am happy to report that the food is extremely good. Their pupu and pizza offerings are exceptional (haven't tried the sandwiches yet). The only cautionary note I offer is that this is not a place for the kids. They do not have a keiki menu nor do they serve any mainstream soft drinks. All in all, it is definitely worth a visit.
