An absolutely fabulous, authentic restaurant that offers an escape from the typical pub. Coming from the Bavarian area, I'm biased towards the Franziskaner, but many of the other beers featured at Steinkeller's are great choices. Understandably so when you see the entrance, accessibility is limited, so make sure you have some help with the ingres and egress.
Recommendation: start of with the calamari and order the Franz. For dinner, have the reuben, it's fantastic. O'zapft is!

This is one of the most unique places I've ever seen. From the main street in Oxford, you go down a rather steep stairway, open the door, and you're in Germany. A perfectly authentic German bierstube in Ohio. They always have a boatload of German beers on tap, available in the one liter glass "Mass" mugs, and they are always in good fresh condition. In fact, they go through their kegs so quickly that the Bitburger (a particular favorite of mine) is almost as good as what I've had in the city of Bitburg in Germany.
The food is actually very good, and when you combine that with the top quality beer, I think the Miami University folks are extraordinarily lucky to have this place.

This place does not have handicap access. You have to take two flights of steep stairs to enter the building. They tried to take me through the back ally but the doors were blocked by at least 12 kegs. Besides the idea of treking through the ally, they were going to make me go through the area where they store their trash inside. It smelled like someone spilled milk 2 weeks ago and never cleaned it up. I suppose I recommend this place to only those standing upright (or stumbling upright).

Steinkeller's is the best place to go for great beer in Oxford. Lots of great German beers on tap, including Maibocks and Dopplebocks. The food is also very good.

In this college town where most bars and restaurants cater primarily to Miami University students who consume large quantities of light megalagers and malternatives, the Steinkeller was a pleasant surprise. This place pays tribute to the brewing tradition of Germany with 17 different German beers on draft. Some of the draft selections were not uncommon, but others seemed less familiar on tap in the US. Consider this lineup: Spaten Lager, Optimator & Oktoberfest, Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Edelhell, Hofbrauhaus Lager, Dinkel Acker CD Pils & Dunkel, Reissdorf Kolsch, Bitburger Pils, Lowenbrau Oktoberfest, Warsteiner Pilsner, Paulaner Hefe-Weizen & Salvator, Kostritzer Schwarzbier, EKU 28, and Schneider Aventinus Weizen Stark-bier. Three additional taps pour Guinness, Labatt Blue, & Bud Light.
The food menu is varied, with German food (of course) plus pizza, sandwiches and more. Try one of the wurst platters or the jagersnitzel with German potato salad and apple kraut. The Steinkeller is below street level (it is not hard to miss the entrance) in the John D. Minnis Building right in the middle of town.
