Having moved from California, trying to find non smoking bars in Milwaukee has been a challenge. Luckily one of the best beer bars I have ever been to is not only close to my house, it's also NON SMOKING.
This is a small place, focused on good beer and liquor and conversation. They don't have TV's, jukebox, video games, just good booze and friendly bartenders.
They have Belgian beers on tap along w/ a couple of unique to Wisconsin American beers, like Anchor Steam.
Staying too long can get expensive, 750mL bottles that you can get at store for $10 bucks are $20 here, but to me it's worth it.

Having been a patron of The Palm for years I find "Joe Six Pack"'s review laughable. Bruno's DEFINETELY not one kiss anyones butt, but you'd only be on the receiving end of his wrath if you were a complete moron or were very rude to a fellow customer or waitstaff. And, no, you CAN'T get a lot of his beers anywhere. But, if that keeps the dumba$$es out of the bar, then more power to him!

I am a big fan of Belgian beers and had been a big fan of Palm until last night, when the owner was a total pr_ck to me, my wife, and our friend. each individually and seperately. I do not support establishments whose owners act as if they are doing you a favor by serving you. There are too many other places to go to, like evan's across the street, and life is too short to put up with that b.s. I'd recommend staying away from this place. The majority of the beers are available elsewhere in Milwaukee, and you can enjoy them without the attitude from the hipster owner.

If you are a beer snob like me, and enjoy fine Belgian beers and a good German beer now and then, this is THE PLACE! Best beer bar in town, hands down!

Are you looking for a bar with an out of this world beer selection that doesn't become a meet market as the night progresses?
The Plam is definitely your type of place. This is a beer connoiseur's bar and a great place to converse and unwind in a relaxing atmosphere.
If you live anywhere near the Milwaukee area you need to check this place out but take the address, because you might miss it due to the understated fron. As others have said, this is truly a gem!

I was blown away by the sheer variety of beverages. Belgian beers abound here. Nice, low key place.

Huge selection of whisky and the best beers from all over the world. Every beer I've tried has been fresh. Something like 125 different beers too.

Fantastic Belgian selection. You could sit here and sample all evening. The Wittekerke on tap was delicious. Friendly, knowledgeable owner and a very comfortable place. It's kind of hard to spot - just a small blue neon sign in the window. Well worth a visit.

The facade is so humble, it would be very easy to miss it entirely. It does have an incredible beer selection, and the bartender/owner is very knowledgeable about the beers, which really helps patrons make informed choices. And that's particularly important here...it's definitely on the pricey side. It's really a great environment for sampling beers and worth a visit if you're in Milwaukee.

“What do you drink?” If your answer is “the best”, then The Palm Tavern, found in Milwaukee’s Bayview neighborhood, may be the place for you.
As you enter, the crimson stucco walls and the Art Deco back bar present an air of bygone sophistication. This is enhanced by the music: classic jazz and R&B, played at a low volume. There are no TVs, pool tables, or video games. Instead, there are conversation centers. (Don’t let the humble façade fool you. It’s a plain white wrapper hiding a gem.)
But the real attraction is the beer selection. The Palm Tavern features approximately 150 beers, about 60 of which are Belgian ales. The owner, Bruno Johnson, is a veteran of The Hop Leaf, Chicago’s successful Belgian ale pub. His knowledge of Belgian styles is exceptional. And if the “spirit” moves you, The Palm Tavern can serve up about 40 scotches and about 50 American whiskeys. This is truly a connoisseur’s bar.
No matter what you drink, you will find some of the best at The Palm.
