I love this place really think it is fantastic. The beers win so many awards it is crazy. Still think it is kinda a hidden gem. More people need to come over and drink.

Bastone's beers are top notch. The trippel is one of my favorite beers, it is a must try. Don't let the 9% scare you, the flavors all blend together to make a stellar beer. IMO, this brewery does Belgian beers better than any brewery in Michigan.
If you're not a big fan of belgian beers, there are other styles too - the Main Street Pils won a Gold medal and is very good.

On my second trip to Bastone, I signed up for their LIFETIME, not annual, mug club membership! The benefits are as great as the beer. The Wit was true to form, the IPA - excellent, the Triple came home with me in the form of a $6 growler (member price!), as well as an outstanding Russian Imp. So far, I've only had the Salmon (grilled very nicely) Caesar salad. Great beers at reasonable prices. A must stop

Damon is the best bartender in Royal Oak. The beers are great. Stop here before the other two (ROB and Lily's)

Tried all 7 of their offerings in a sampler. Blonde is very light--for the masses. Pilsner featured slight maltiness in the nose--drinkable. The Wit wasn't very egdy or a crisp as I usually expect. Saison complex--spicy/flowery/lavender/cinnamon--great. IPA had a nice balance--malt noticable in the finish. Dubbel true to style--fruity/spicy. Hophrodisiac IPA a 9%+ double IPA with very aggressive hop finish. Brick/block interior, exposed ceiling beams. Good stop.

DEFINITELY THE WEAKEST LINK IN ROYAL OAK (RATING THE BEER ALONE). APPROX. 8-9 HOUSE BREWS THAT NEEDED SOME WORK. I WOULD HEAD OVER TO LILY'S IF YOU ARE A BEER SNOB LIKE MYSELF.

My boyfriend and I are weekly visitors to Bastone. With $2 happy hour beer specials and half off pizza's, you can't beat going! Their great beers and menu continues to make us loyal customers.

ok, so it's trendy and the beer isn't where it should be--yet. the food is excellent, however, and the service is exceptional. we've enjoyed it each of the 4-5 times that we've gone there. the basement is kinda eerie, though, stainless steel everywhere and gaunt fellows looming in the shadows. reminds us of a futuristic AIDS clinic. avoid the basement, however, and you'll have a great time.

Walked in for a quick lunch and had the sampler. The Wit and Dubbel were definately my favorites. I thought the Porter was not as full of flavor as I like and a big disappointment.

This place is certainly a typical Royal Oak restaurant, with tons of customers and extremely busy. However, the brewer, Kim, who came from Dragonmead in Warren, is an excellent brewer. I enjoyed all the beers very much and the food was pretty amazing as well. Kim knows how to brew Belgian style ales and her Dubbel was quite tasty. Put this place on pubcrawl list along with the Royal Oak Brewery (just a block away) and WAB (Woodward Avenue Brewery). They are all within a few minutes of each other (by car for WAB).

GIVE ME A BREAK! This place is all about being seen. It is soooo trendy it almost makes me sick. If you just want to look at pretty people for the night this is the place to be. However, let's be real. CINQ, the bar downstairs from the restaurant at Bastone, is in a basement. The floor is uneven, there is no ceiling, just the floor joists and there is virtually no other decor. You really feel as if you could be in your friend's basement! Yet here they charge you for the drinks. All in all I was not impressed!

Great Beer!! Just got back and love their blonde and wit beers. Happy hour specials are awesome. $2 pints? Nice. The bar downstairs is hopping on the weekends. My favorite place in Royal Oak.

This place is amazing. Their beers were OK when they first opened, but they have a new brewer now, one of the few female brewers in the country, and her beers are OUTSTANDING. Seriously, I am not sure where she came from but she is one of the best in the State. I live in Royal Oak and go there all the time.

Very trendy place. The supposed to be belgain beers were not very close. Very bland and not many to choose from. Food is over priced and again trendy. I do not think they will be around very long with this quality. It is more about being seen and what you are wearing and not about the beer or the food at all. Belgain beers are my favorite and I drink them all the time and brew them myself and I have done a ton of resurch on them and I would suggest that do the same.

Visited twice and both times beer was severely undercarbonated. Small selection of Belgian style ales that are really quite boring and bland considering that Belgian style beers are very flavorful. Strange feel to the place with everything being painted white. Menu is made up of overpriced nouevue American cuisine.

Visited Bastone on a recent visit to Royal Oak. Good location on a corner right downtown. Beer selection was good and the beers went down smoothly. Only had one item off the menu but all the food looked very well prepared. Staff is very friendly and know what they're doing. Basement bar has a European feel and attracts a large crowd later in the evening. Dress up a bit if you plan on going downstairs. Bar area is pretty small.

I went to Bastone's during their first week. They had several beers on tap, none of which were outstanding, but all of which were good and quite drinkable. I took this as a very good sign considering they just opened up. I just had an appetizer, but it was awesome. Tempura artichoke hearts...would highly recommend it. Menu had many interesting selections, and I will certainly be returning for the food and to give the beer another go after they get settled in.
