2nd time visit to Carl's was on Friday afternoon 11/24. Just up the road from John Harvard's makes it a great 1 - 2 stop. An out of towner would only know about Carl's from PUBCRAWLER or by word of mouth as it is the kind of place that you would drive right by and never suspect as being the great tap house that it is. All kinds of quality beer on tap with Arcadia HopMouth and Great Lakes Nosferatu being my choices for this stop. Service from the bartender was outstanding as we got what amounted to almost a free pint for killing the HopMouth barrel and she also took time to go in the back to find Carl's T-shirts for us in our requested sizes. The one major negative that brings the overall rating down would have to be the big black cloud of cigarette smoke that hung in the bar room. The place was packed and 90% were smoking. If you can handle the smoke by all means stop, the beer is worth it!

Carl's Tavern is second to none! They have the best selection of beer, something for everyone. I especially like the seasonal selections they always offer. There is a very laid back atmosphere inside and I have never seen such a friendly staff. The food is very delicious as well. If your in the area stop and enjoy Carl's Tavern. Tell them Rupert sent you.

Thanks for the tip, Sean: Carl's is just as you described it. Not much to look at on the outside, just another cinderblock/permastone beer joint by the side of the road, and not that easy to get into, but the taps are excellent, lines and beers are clean, service is quick and friendly, and the place is absolutely spotless. Looks like a good place to hang in Monroeville.

Very impressed. This place has been around for years, and apparently has recently started serving better beer on tap. 20 Taps the sign outside says. Delirium Tremens, Guinness, Youngs Double Choc Stout, Victory Hop Devil, Stoudts Maibock, Troeg's Troegenator Double Bock, Hacker-Pschorr Weissen, Framboise, and a few other good selections were all on tap this evening. Only two taps of swill (Bud & Coors Light). Good bar food menu - quite a few pages of sandwiches, appetizers, pizza, wings, salads. If you're not sure where it's at, get off at the Monroeville Business exit heading out the Parkway East. Continue up the hill and it's right there before the Midas Muffler autoshop. Their t-shirts state 'More beer taps than parking spots', which is true.
