Brew Master Doug Beedy brews some of, if not THE best beer in Michigan. He is the Mad Scientist of Brewing!!! 268 different beers in just under 4 years. The food and service are exceptional and the atmosphere superb. Just wait until you get to tap a cask conditioned ale, which he does almost every Thursday. You feel like a king and you go into the "Hall Of Foam" to boot!!! Many TV's & a HUGE projection TV make it a great sports brewpub! Not to mention Monday's Texas Holdem Tourny's and all the drink specials. The "Fan Club" you can join and get discounts that go along with it is stellar. Then there is his "Beer Fantasy Camps"!! A few video games, pool table and darts along with Buzztime trivia and Holdem. All this, makes this the most unique, fun, exciting and neighborly brewpub you will ever enjoy!! Had a chance to stop there to try their new cream stout. The cream stout was excellent! Also tried one of their burgers - can't beat the price and it was excellent. Keep up the great work Doug!

The opening salvo in my Michigan beer tour this year, and I wasn't disappointed. Got there at the opening bell and got a good vibe immediately as I entered. 8 taps of their product, so I got a sampler. Lincoln Lager--super light, slight flavor at finish, for the masses. Pay Czech Pils--refreshing lots of flavor/spicy Czech hops. Doug's Turbo Sarsaparilla--root beer "beer" malt noticable backing up the root beer. Gimmicky, but not bad. CPI--IPA with sorghum. A little sweet and grainy, moderately hoppy. Corktown Red--really carbonated red ale w. some darkness in background, not too sweet. Black Ice--roasty bitterness, smooth/drinkable schwarzbier character. Piston Pale--yum! Amarillo super clean and crisp. A winner! Third Shift Stout--vanilla/chocolate/coffee, smooth, pretty damn good! My server Shannon didn't miss a beat, friendly and cute, just the right amount of service without being clingy. Food prices very reasonable/portions big. Pints 2.75-3.50, with Happy Hour all day Mon., Tues-Thur 3-7. A great place to get started!

I've only been in a couple times and it was early last year, but enjoyed my visit. Good food prices ... Love the philly steak and the french dip. I'm not a big fan of beers on the bitter side (ESB types etc), and tended to find Fort Street's offerings to be somewhat that way ... even some not advertised as such. I chalk this up to a decision on beer style and *not* to a lack of quality control. I'd very much like to see an offering more to the Kulmbacher style of beer, very heavy towards a porter but with a pronounced sweet, slightly winey flavor ...smoke, leather and chocolate overtones. A GREAT example is Sprecher Black Bavarian (another example is "August Schell Smaltz Alt" though it's not as heavy as I like.)
In terms of the brew pubs in the area, the Fort Street Brewery is MUCH better than that shyte hole BP in Wyandotte. And KUDOs to the owners for having the guts to put so much money into a location in an area that is probably more to the bud-light and swill side of the beer spectrum ... it was a risk, but provided the area with it's nicest brew pub. And a big thank you for having Cask beer too!!! I hope to stop by again soon.

I have to drive through Detroit and several suburbs to get to this place so you know it's worth the drive. Doug is a great brewer and the selection rotates often enough to keep it interesting. The food is really good with great Downriver pricing and portions. Keeps me coming back every week.

BEERS WERE THE BEST OF THE 3 SPOTS WE VISITED WHILE IN THE AREA. ROOT BEER FLAVORED BEER IS UNIQUE AND WORTH A TRY. OTHERS WERE OUTSTANDING AND RIGHT ON THE MARK.

Stopped by on my way through Michigan. Saw there were a couple pubs that were new and I hadn't been in. The place is nice, but the floor plan is like a sea of tables and chairs. The food was alright, though not too exciting. Had several mediochre beers, the stand-out was the farmer's tan, a sort-of brown or mild ale. Nice place to stop, but I can't picture it being my beer heaven.

Came in for a late dinner on Friday. It wasn't too crowded. Sat at the bar and the service was impeccable, friendly, knowledgable, and attentive without hovering. Also spoke to one of the owners. The quesadilla was fantastic. The beer was good, but not outstanding. Had an oatmeal stout, which was a little thinner than hoped, and a India Pale Lager, which was interesting, but no better than good.

It's a shame that an ex-pub owner would use this forum to try and cause pain to a brewer who's only sin was accepting a job with an immoral and unethical person. People who subscibe to pub crawler are looking for great brewpubs and are not interested in the bitter ravings of an ex pub owner, who has no one else to blame for his short comings than himself. Doug is an excellent brewer, and Fort Street is a fine place for great food and beer. I stopped in last May, and was quite impressed! Stop by and see for youself. P.S. Get any more horses Dave?

How IRONIC...the reviewer "Dave" whom also wrote a review for The BrewKettle and Fort Street breweries used to be associated with these brewers. Whats that phrase...you should never burn your bridges...Dave, lil too late to try to rebuild your reputation. I have been patron to The Brewkettle, Quarryman Tavern and now The Cornerstone, and can say that I have had enough dealings with Dave to say unfortunately he ruined a good thing for place(Quarryman). Building a business is hard for anyone, but when you abuse your staff and don't appreciate your customers, it's bound to fail. The brewers and all three establishments are always trying to keep those loyal customers happy and trying to convert the "average" beer drinker into a beer enthusiast! It's working! Keep it up guys! We appreciate your hard work and overflowing pints!

Yes Doug has brewed at several places that are now closed. But it was not the fault of the beer. Doug is an excellant brewer and is always willing to go out of his way to talk to someone thats interested in his brews. I stopped in at Fort St in July, things are getting started and it should turn into a topnotch brewpub. The food looked great, the beer was not quite up to Dougs normal level but I am sure it will be. He can't be beat when it comes to Stouts and Porters.

Read some of the comments and also followed the links for doug, the brewer. This is a good place but research reveals that doug leaves a trail of defunct and destroyed breweries behind him like shit leaves a trail of stink. Hope this fares better.

Stopped in after work and enjoyed their sampler before ordering the pale ale. The staff is friendly and the food good. The mushrooms could have been a bit hotter in temp. The beer is more flavorful top to bottom than most other places I visited. I would recommend the pale ale and the porter.

Stopped in on my way to Detroit from Cleveland. Sampled the IPA, Porter, 4 x 4, and summer rye ale. All were excellent! Especially the rye!! The burger I had was HUGH and very tasty (only 2.95).The staff were all knowledgable and friendly(unlike the places I stopped at in Detroit). Great brewpub! I will be back when in the area.

I'm all for being "smoke-friendly", but maybe they should supply breathing masks at the door for non-smokers. Seriously, this place was worse than any bowling alley I've been in. Not that it would have made a difference, but in the mostly empty place, they guy sitting at the non-smoking table next to us had moved the non-smoking sign to the windowsill in order to make room for his ashtray. They had the usual array of beer colors - light, red, brown, dark etc. All of them were decent, nothing that would make me brave the fog inside. Perhaps in the summer when the weather is nice and the outside seating is open I'll give it another try. I don't think it's worth another smoke hangover.
Also I wasn't really sure if the elderly man working the door was actually an employee?

Beer drinker, yes, things like dirty lines can change the flavor of beer once it is in the serving tank. However, I was really just poking fun at his comments since these beers didn't change in the few days in between his visits.

Doug, I'm not a brewer,like yourself, but many things can change the flavor of the beer. I don't think you have any of these problems, but, dirty lines, dirty serving tanks,dirty anything can change the flavor of the beer. Heck, even aging can change the flavor of the beer.

Very impressed with the staff (especially Drea)and their knowledge of the house beers and beer styles in general-often lacking at brew pubs/breweries. Fort Street definitely merits regular visits to the tap rotation.

Uh, Frank, the beer doesn't change once it's in the serving tanks. I would say it was your taste buds that changed. Often depends on what you eat before ya drink or if ya smoke. Thanks for commenting though.

We went back 2 weeks after opening and were very happy to see that things had calmed down and the beer had mellowed. On our first visit (opening night) several of the beers were a bit sweet and a couple had a bitter aftertaste. This trip was nothing like that. We each had two beers of differing styles and all four beers were great. a little age helped out immensely.

The word is out. This new establishment was mobbed by an overwhelming number of patrons on their first Saturday. The staff did their best to keep up. Every seat in the house was taken . Food was good and very affordable. Beer was better. Double thumbs-up to the Porter and I.P.A.
