Very well designed interior in an awesome downtown location. It's as nice as you could possibly make a place without starting to leave the comfortable and welcoming feel of a low-key watering hole. Maybe I'm just a sucker for expensive carpentry that doesn't look pre-fab, though. Great place to go for an unplanned quick drink while downtown. No place can truly have both a party vibe and seem like a place where you can imagine a writer sitting and working and drinking, but this place might come closest to *resembling* a place where an urbane writer might sit and work. The only writers nearby are probably in the employ of espn.com, though, so they'd be well-paid and probably a lot more festive than, say, Tolstoy.

Offering 22 (mostly) NW micros and an extensive listing of area wines, this recently opened upscale pub can be found right off Pioneer Square (next door to the Smith Tower, which you cannot miss). The Collins introduced me to the excellent Boundary Bay Brewing Company (Bellingham, WA), who brews a very hoppy and likewise tasty IPA and another micro from nearby Redmond called Far West Ireland Brewery. If you seek a great place to hang out over a few brews or wines, this is the place to do it.
