Wow, what a surprise this place was! One of the best IPA'a I've ever had and the pork tacos were delicious. The service was top-notch, and the place clean and friendly. I even parked right in front on the street. I mean, nothing about my experience could have been better at LB. I highly recommend a stop overnight in Hays just for this place.

This place certainly turned out to be a pleasant surprise. As part of a short visit to Hays, KS, I was taken here for lunch. The pale ale was crisp and tasty with just enough hop backbone. The pork tacos were of good quality and well prepared, although I didn't care for the sauce the pork was marinated in.

A very impressive establishment and such a nice draw (pun intended) for a town like Hays. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for the best beer and food around. Gerald and his wife are to be commended for running an outstanding operation. The beer was fresh and it's hard to believe that they can keep over 6 different types of beer flowing in a place like Hays. I tried the Pale Ale, the IPA, and the stout. All were top-notch but the IPA in the large Lb glass was simply outstanding! This is a unique but yummy IPA (hops were not as strong as traditional IPA and color was darker too). Great crafting here!
The menu had some nice options including a portobello mushroom burger and other veggie options that always go so well with good beer.
We were in town with a larger group for a weather conference and I think almost everyone enjoyed themselves. On our second night we had some issues with the bartender, Chad, when a larger group came in for beers just before last call. Our server was happy to work with the group and provide us with some fine brew. However Chad was not very happy about that even though none of us had heard the last call. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end and we were all served one last round. Sorry we kept you later than expected, Chad.
I think the addition of some comfortable furniture ( comfy chairs and couches like Flying Saucer pubs) would be a really nice touch for Lb. On the other hand, that might keep people staying around and having a good time (and spending more money) even longer. Something to think about. Thanks Gerald. If I'm ever up in Hays again, I'll be stopping by!

We stayed at Hays on our way to Colorado, great decision. I make beer so I looked online to see if there were any brew pubs in Hays. Of course there is and I was looking forward to having a beer or two at Lb. Boy, was I shocked, well not shocked, shocked would be if I went to the Coors plant and tasted great beer, but I was very, very pleased when I tried the Pale Ale. It was one of the best beers I have ever had. I want the recipe. We had several other beers, all really good beers, but the Pale Ale was by far our favorite. We also ate dinner there and my steak was perfect. Great beer, great food, and great staff. I just wanted to say thank you. When I pour a beer into my new Lb mug I'll be wishing it was your Pale Ale.

I've been hearing about LB for awhile now but finally had the time to stop in on my way to GABF 2007. Wow I was stunned. The beer was excellent as I expected and had heard from many people. What stunned me was the food though. I have rarely had a better meal than this little brewpub in the middle of KS. I have traveled all over the US and eaten at some wonderful places. LB stands out though for the atmosphere, the service, the food quality, the price and the beer. I have never had a better meal in that price range or even a few above it. A trip to Hays is a must for beer and food lovers everywhere.

We generally fly a small plane to Colorado but in this case, weather precluded, so on the way back, we planned to stop at this brewpub/restaurant, having heard good things about it. My gosh, we have now made Hays a flying destination. That is how good the food is. It is nearly gourmet quality. The beers are typical of micro breweries that I have tried, excellent. The beer was fine. It wasn't so cold you couldn't taste it. A bit strong, though. The food was very good. The menu was meat & potatoes OR salad. Well, that's Kansas. Had a descent time and am stuffed.

I was surprised that everything was so great given the newness of the establishment. The menu had something for everyone. I had a kielbasa salad and it was wonderful. The night I was there they had 8 beers available. The British stout was outstanding as was the porter and pale ale. This will definitely be my regular place of choice when I am in Hays.

A sister establishment to the Gella Diner next door.
First off, I figured being in such a small town, Lb. Brewing would be a boutique brewpub with 3-4 beers. Instead I was blown away to find 14 beers on tap!
Started off with the porter which was rich and smooth with nice roasty flavor. A nice beer for a cool, fall night
From there I tried their amber. Very flavorful with a nice color and gentle sweetness, but a little too malty for me on this night.
Next up I tried their Oatmeal Stout. This beer took 2nd place at the GABF and I can see why, as it was really extraordinary. I first tried it in a taster mug and the first sips left me curious. It was very light on the palate and unlike any stout I'd ever had before. A full pint brought out a really nice, caramel flavor that wasn't overwhelmed by the elements of chocolate and coffee as many brewpub stouts are.
Unfortunately, I got there late on a Thursday and they closed down before I could try more. However the next time I'm in Hays, I plan to get there earlier and, if you ever find yourself in Hays, KS, or you get thirsty for a great beer while travelling I-70 in western Kansas, Lb. Brewing is well worth the trip!
