I had the spicy tomato basil seafood pasta with fusilli. I have to admit that my order was AWESOME! But then again on the negative tone of things, the servers sucked. The girls barely came around to take our orders and check on us. One of the tall Hispanic girls was pretty rude (speaking spanish to other coworkers and passing drinks and such right across your face). The ONLY thing that's making me go back would have to be the Spicy tomato basil seafood pasta. Oh yeah, The amber beer was pretty good, but that's about it!

There were 4 beers when I went a few days ago. Porter was OK (sweetness interesting but odd; almost like the sweetness was added after the fact because it feels disconnected from the rest of the beer; slightly below average for style). Pale was just OK (fairly drinkable but nothing special; slightly below average for style; a bit bland). Bohemian Lager tasted much like soapy water. Hefeweizen was just a subpar/bland version of the style.
You know a brewpub probably sucks when they don't even have descriptions of their own beers (talk about a lack of pride in the main product). Brewpubs that don't have the imagination to come up with names for their beers tend to stink it up too. This place is in line with all of those trends. They didn't even come up with an original name for the brewpub itself (California already has 2 brewpubs that I know of with the word "firehouse" in the name... was this location even a former firehouse?).
Service at the bar was subpar too. I thought I was going to have to set the place on fire in order to get a bill (yes the bad pun was intended).
Parts of the bar area (not the bar itself) have a view of several TV's that are pretty nice for sports fans.
Really good brewpubs just don't exist in the Bay Area south of the San Mateo Bridge and this is the worst of the bunch down there (unless you consider Hollister part of the Bay Area because that one is really bad too). Sunnyvale has another brewpub (Faultline) that may not be anything special itself but has much better beer.

I went with a work group awhile back, we had their Burger with a wonderful sauce and bread. I prefer a light beer; but most seemed to like the Porter better. Menus during Happy Hour can be confusing. I'd go back just for that burger.

Firehouse is located in the heart of historic downtown Sunnyvale, all one block of it. Back in my formative years, it was two blocks long. So much for down-sizing.All in all, this is a pretty nice place. Roomy bar area with numerous flat screens for the sports junkie. Two floored dining area and an outdoor patio for the tobacco freaks. If they can just get a few more beers going it would be a great addition to Murphy Avenues restaurant row. They had five house brews on tap to go along with the full bar and a sizable wine selection. Tried a pint each of the Pale Ale(5.3%), Bohemian Lager(4.9%) and the Porter(5.9%). The Pale was good. The Lager was a little hoppy for my taste but that didn't keep me from finishing it. I'd go for the Porter as the best of the trio. Had a pulled pork sandwich that was excellent. FYI, if you sit at the bar, you are limited to the bar menu and a few daily specials. And be forwarned, Murphy Ave. is closed down Saturday for the local farmers market so parking can be a bit of a problem. But,hey, it's downtown Sunnyvale...not san Francisco!

OK, so I went back to sample the food. It was a Friday evening around 6:30. I wanted to sample a different brew than I had on the 22nd, but the only two available were the one's I'd had previously. By the time I left, only one of their five taps was working. The food was tasty and there were several items I'd like to try but unless they get their act together with the brews, I won't be back often.

New Brewpub in the former Stoddard's location. I tasted the IPA (current seasonal) and the Porter. Both were very good. I didn't eat here but the menu look interesting so intend to do so on a future visit.

This place is still getting its wings and learning how to operate. So far, so good! Matt is a great guy and brews his own recipes on a gleaming 20-bbl system. He had a boh pils, wheat, American pale, IPA, and Porter (which was quite tasty) all on tap. The food menu varied from pizza to veal and was top notch. I look forward to returning to this brewpub soon.
