This place certainly turned out to be a pleasant surprise. As part of a short visit to Hays, KS, I was taken here for lunch. The pale ale was crisp and tasty with just enough hop backbone. The pork tacos were of good quality and well prepared, although I didn't care for the sauce the pork was marinated in.

I visited this brewpub on 7/13/08 and had the following beers; Pale Ale, American Wheat Ale, Amber Ale, American Brown, Oatmeal Stout, Raspberry Wheat, IPA, and American Hefeweizen. If I had come on the 17th I would have been able to sample their Double IPA. This brewpub is an oasis in the Sunflower Field of Kansas. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of beer at this brewpub. The pub has won two GABF medals a bronze in 2007 for their American Hefeweizen and a silver for their Oatmeal Stout in 2005. They serve a local favorite “Grebble” which is fried bread served with maple syrup or a sunflower seed infused pesto. Our meal was excellent and I will certainly return when I get a chance.

This micro is located in what is called downtown Hayes. It is in a restored building, that in my opinion was a wonderfull job of a restoration. The micro consists of two dining rooms and a bar area with more tables in it. The beer that I tried was above average,I tried the IPA, which had a great west coast hop hit to it and the American Hefeweizen, which won an award at the GABF last fall. The food is also above average for a mostly pub fare menu.I tried the meatloaf which was great. If you are traveling thru Kansas on I70 Gella's is about 15 minutes off the highway and worth the trip.
