Mad Mex has a truly remarkable selection of drafts - especially considering the overall poor quality of the pub scene in Columbus. I used to live in Seattle and Portland, OR, two of the best cities for beer in the US, and I'm still impressed with the selection and quality of the drafts at Mad Mex. Two dozen taps (or so), and they rotate all but 5. Many of the beers are one-keg-and-done, and there's 3-4 new beers every week. And what beers they are! Anderson Valley, Rogue, Bells, Great Divide... and some relatively obscure breweries, too. Best of all is the price, at happy hour(s) anyway. 4-7 M-F all the drafts are between $2 and $2.75 for a 16 oz pint (more expensive beers are served in 12 oz glasses). Outside happy hour, the prices are $4 - $5.50 - not unbearable, but not remarkably cheap, either.
Service when seated at the bar is fast and friendly, with free tastes of the drafts readily available. Service at the tables can be fairly slow, depending on which waiter you get. The wings (1/2 price at happy hour)are some of the best I've had, with several innovative sauces, as well as the standard buffalo. The entrees (burritos, tacos, etc) are some of the better "Mexican" I've had in Columbus, but are a bit too pricey at $8-10 for a burrito.
My only other complaint is the atmosphere. Mad Mex definitely has an "upscale campus eatery" feel - very clean, lots of bare concrete, wacky murals and metal fixtures. Definitely not the "comfortable pub" feel I prefer. The cheesy Day of the Dead decorations don't help much, either. Still, I'd go to a McDonalds if they had beer this good, at prices like these.
One other note - $6 (all day) 22 oz, very strong margaritas can be used to tempt your non-beer swilling significant other to come along.
