We have been eating at the Middleton Tavern for over 20 years whenever we were in Annapolis. With the colonial atmosphere, the best crab cakes on the city dock, and the oyster shooters, it was a "must-do" lunch or early dinner. Never again. Today we walked in at 1:20 PM and requested a non-smoking table. We were seated immediately next to the bar and within 15 minutes were enveloped by pipe smoke from a man in the bar, despite the fact that the far side of the dinning room was half-empty. Meanwhile, our waiter served our drinks, took our food order, and then disappeared for over half an hour. Finishing our drinks, we finally flagged down the hostess and complained about the pipe smoke. She moved us to the other side of the dinning room and said that she would get our waiter. 15 minutes later, we were still sitting, waiting for a drink re-fill and our food. When we asked the nearest server to find our waiter, she went into the kitchen and I saw her speak to him. He responded by continuing his conversation with someone in the kitchen, laughing and carrying on. She came back out and said that our food was coming immediately. It came about 5 minutes later (not delivered by our waiter) and it was obvious that it had been under a heat lamp for some time, at least 20 minutes. We got up and left. No apologies or explanations were offered other than to tell us that we didn't have to pay for the two drinks that we had received almost an hour earlier!

The main reasons we go to Middleton's: the Keno and the good service.
Middleton's does not brew beer. Although they have Samuel Middleton's on tap, it is actually brewed by the Frederick Brewing Company/Wild Goose.
Middleton's has great happy hour prices on steamed seafood-- I've never tried the clams but they smell delicious. I ordered a chicken sandwich basket during happy hour and it came with a free domestic beer (I believe it was about $5). I'm not a fan of domestics but who can pass-up a free beer?
Definitely worth the trip if visiting Annapolis-- the bar was just remodeled this year (after the hurricane flooded the building) and it is much more inviting. Did I mention they have Keno?

Seafood was great but expensive. Paid $31 for the Rockfish and did not even get a salad. Not a place to go for beer. Only thing on tap other than bud was the house ale (good) and Honey Brown Ale (OK). I would come back for the food but not the beer.

This is some of the best food in Annapolis. The steak/crab cake combo is fantastic. The beers I've had there have been pretty good.

Very good local restaurant/pub. One of the better "eateries" around. Well known for their oyster shooters. Good entertainment frequently.

Didn't try the beer the night I was there, had wine. The food is quite a cut above normal pub grub. A good place to eat.

This bar, as it is listed here, brews its own, called, surprisingly enough, Samuel Middleton's. This beer is sold mostly in PA, DE, MD, and VA. The food is great, you must try the crab bisque. There is limited outside seating which is great on warm nights as this bar sits near the bay. A must visit along with the Ram's Head if you are in Annapolis
