As good as any place to begin a Fells Point pub crawl. Located on the Ann Street Wharf John Stevens looks like it might have looked 100 years ago. An historical tavern with a small dining area off a well-worn bar under an impressive ceiling of pressed tin, John Stevens, named after a teddy bear for some reason, provides pubcrawlers with an opportunity to fill up with delicious crab soup and a filling muffaleta before stumbling out into the cobbled streets of this wonderful old port. The beers were primarily local micros like Tupper's Hop Pocket and Yuengling Porter (on draft - a first for me having never found this one on tap anywhere ever). Unfortunately, they were out of several choices, so ordering your favorite beer might turn out to be a crap shoot. (But still ... Yuengling Porter on tap.) BTW, the hulking building you see as you leave was once home to Frank Pemberton, et.al of the late, and very lamented "Homicide" TV show, which was filmed in and around the area.

If you're not from the area (or even a short drive away) believe all the great things you hear about Fells Point and the wide variety of great beer bars. If you were so inclined, you could easily reach double-digits in a crawl in the area. John Steven is just one of many that would be worthwhile to visit. Of the 18 taps, almost all were good quality micros or imports and there was an equal number of bottles (and variety) to try. As with so many of the Fells Point stops I make, the folks who were there were pleasant and helped to make my stop a comfortable one. Can't comment on the food, but hope to on my next pub crawl.

Just stopped in for a look around, had a cup of coffee (long night, and I was flagging a bit), and was impressed by the beer selection; not the same thing everyone else in Fells Point was pouring. Cool place, plenty of dining room, nice little middle bar in the back.

Lots of selections - especially local - and very good food. Not a bad place to start the evening or end the afternoon.

Had a Capital City Hefeweizen (several). It was a good day to be outside with good food/beer. Nice rustic beer scene.

I had to chime in here. John Steven's is fantastic for beers and light fare, but the dinner food has gone seriously downhill over the past 2 years. Even former stars like the crab cakes are no longer a safe bet, as I discovered last week. Beware.

This bar has won my honor as the bar in Fells Point I take people to for a good meal with their great beer. There's something to please everybody coming out of their kitchen (and sushi bar), and the beer selection is an excellent cross-section of beer--no problem pairing a beer with a food here!

My wife and I were at two another pubs and asked some of locals where to find the best crab cakes in Baltimore. Now you know where to find the best crab cakes in Baltimore too. We ate at the service bar with some of employees and Joe(our bartenter)was very helpful and knowledgable(did I spell that right?) about the local microbrews. This will be another return stop on our next visit to this area.

My favorite restaurant in Fell's Point, just edging out Bertha's on the food front. Their Cajun food is the most authentic I've had North of my family's ancestral home in Baton Rouge. The "American style" sushi is wondeful, but comes in very large portions - it's easy to over-order. Try the smoked yellowfin and the Scottish salmon. Service is awesome; prices are competetive. The beer selection is fine, but the beer is not the star, and shouldn't be here. A great "special occasion" "first date" or "friends visiting from out of town" restaurant.

A good place to eat in Fells Point, or just stop in for a beer. Can be crowded at certain times, it's not a huge place. I recommend it.

Great food, great outdoor patio for dinner, fresh sushi, a house beer brewed for them (a sorta Belgian pale ale?), and nice atmosphere/neighborhood.
