Everything was great until we got the bill and he told us they only accept cash or american express. None of us had enough to pay the bill so we had to use the ATM at the bar and it ran out of money. Thank God we were able to pull the rest together out of what cash we did have.

Another NYC theme bar. Same owners as the Slaughtered Lamb. Tourist trap. But bring your kids. They will love the talking pirate and skeletons etc

Funny. Rheingold does have a DMS problem though -- the cooked-corn aroma and flavor are overpowering.
Diacetyl-y Budweiser? Probably just dirty lines, or first-beer syndrome. No diacetyl possible in a Budweiser. Acetaldehyde, sure, but that's a feature. See?

Don't you hate that diacetyl? I find it in every beer I don't like.

Go just for the bathrooms. I should make you look for them, but they're located in the bookcases in the back hallway. Tough to find when you really gotta go!
I had to try the Rheingold on tap and it was loaded with diacetyl. When I complained she said, "Oh - that's what that stuff is - try this," and handed me a "fresh" Budweiser (ugh). That too was loaded with diacetyl. I donāt know whatās wrong but I donāt care. I wonāt be back as I had to listen to the bar wench complain about the smoking laws the whole time I was there.

I really loved the creepy butler here with the english accent. This place would be great for kids. The food was nice, if a little cold and you dont get that much. The choice of beer was standard really alot of english beers like newcastle brown ale, but thats good it made me feel at home! All in all I would say you should definately go here once, especailly with kids or a group of people. After 1 time I would imagine the novelty would wear off.

Be careful when going to J&H. They have two locations. This one in Greenwich Village is great. The beer on tap was excellent and they had a large selection in bottles. It has a fun atmosphere and kids seem to love it while the adults get to drink good beer. The service was excellent. Do not go to their 58th Street location. It is a dump. Small beer selection, nothing good on tap, poor service and they tell you when you get ready to pay that they only take Amex.

Bartenders were more interested in talking to themselves than helping customers. I also had to choose three beers on the menu before I found one they actually had available.

This place is supposed to be famous for its vast selection of beers. They didn't have in stock the first SIX beers I asked for--all of them on their beer menu. That counts as two strike-outs in my book.

With the "Theme" and decorations, it felt like I was on a ride in Disney World. Great selection of beer, but would rather of spent my time at another watering hole in the Village. If it weren't for my company, I would of had an awful time.

Nice theme bar but very packed with tables and chairs. Great selection of beers, over 400. Service was bad but that did not stop us from having a good time.

Way overpriced even for NYC. A "theme" bar -- Stay away unless you're with kids. Definitely not for serious beer drinkers.

Horrible place, there weren't enough seats at the bar so my date and I had to stand, they were all out of New Castle and way over priced as well. The bathrooms are on alternating floors and only two stalls in each bathroom. Save your time and money and skip this place!

It's alright, for a once in a while thing, unless you like overpriced food and beer..........with a childish atmosphere and lots of JUNK on the walls.......It's Ok but definitely overpriced and pretty much lousy.

A Great Theme bar. The staff is great at playing all their roles except that of waiter. I was getting cobwebs, much like the decor, waiting for my overpriced beer...great selection of beer and reasonably priced food for the area you are in. Great for taking a group of people.

The place is great for KIDS. Lots of skeletons(including the customers at the tables waiting for service). While the selection of beer here is pretty good, the people serving it do not have a clue. I actually overheard a bartender tell a waiter that "they were out of a beer" a customer had just ordered, and to give the customer a substitute beer since "he would never know the difference". With all the great places in the Village, this one can be avoided.

This kind of bar/restuarant is everything that is wrong with the industry today. All their money and efforts go to a decor that only a teenager could find appealing, leaving the food and service among the worst I've ever experienced.
