The real draw here is the history. Cool stuff all over the walls and old wooden ice boxes. Stop in, take a look around and get out. The beer was drinkable but that's all I can say (of course that slogan seems to work for IN-BUD). Service was dismissive at best. I've been, marked it off my list. Wouldn't consider going back.

Probably the most legendary pub I've ever been to. Myself and a few of my friends went over to visit from Ireland. The beer was top notch and the craic was mighty!!

"Be good or be gone!" Love that quote. Another one is "Drink up LADIES!" If you don't drink fast enough and you have a table, they will tell you have to leave. I actually was thrown out of Mcsorleys because after 11 hours of drinking we were still drinking fast enough but they had to turn over the table. The atmosphere is the best. The waiters are rude, crude and all Irish but it is the best of NYC rolled into one! The best part of the place is they shove you in tightly into a table with people you have never met before, and you are best buddies by the time you leave! I even met someone from my college which was 6 hours away! Plattsburgh!!!!! It is not a name you hear that often screamed on the top of a person's lungs! We used to go a lot in my younger days. My friends and I are going back on January 26! Anyone want to join us?!?

some families pass down heirlooms, mine passes down bars. My dad and uncles used to hang out at McSorley's and now my generation has taking to going there when we're in the city. no bar can top their atmosphere which is what you go there for.

This old-timer used to ban women. I wonder what that was like. Nowadays, its a tourist-trap, but it is nevertheless quite fun. The beer offerings are not great, but go to soak up that 160 year old atmosphere. It still has dust from 1915 hanging on the chandeleers.

I am totally sympathetic to the previous reviewer. He nailed it. Nonetheless this is an iconic place that transcends today's irrtating exploitation.

This place takes its customers for granted - they are obviously not looking for them to come back. There must be enough people coming in regardless of the overall experience.
We encountered an extremely rude waiter pushing shamelessly for tips while providing poor service. We tipped this short, bald, tiny-glassed man 10-15%. He started to laugh sarcastically and yelled us "are you done? Two minutes".
Very poor service crowded conditions. Your best bet is to take a good look at the wall, walk out and find a place whee they appreciate your business.

This is a place for all to enjoy, even if you don't touch alcohol. The place is steeped in history; real John Wilkes Booth wanted posters, copies of the Civil War Armstice, and the carved initials of many U.S. presidents adorn the walls. The floor is covered in fresh sawdust everyday (delivered in a trailer by N.Y.'s finest!) and there is a pot belly stove in the main bar room. Antique gas lamps covered in cobwebs hang from the ceiling, and the bathrooms sport urinals so big, if u layed one down on its side, it could serve as a bathtub. My advice is to get there no later than noon when it's not packed so you can view these treasures and take in as much of the walls' historical displays as possible.
The best thing about it though is not the beer or food or how much of it you can consume; it's the people u meet. I'm am a Red Sox fan and of course despise the Skankees, oops, Yankees, but I'd take spending my day here than anywhere else in Boston, where rudeness is common. Mingling with adjacent tables, you meet folks who are instantly a buddy to hang out with and enjoy the day. There are never any fights. They have one rule; be good, or be gone! They will toss you out, as there is usually an hour wait to get in.
If you're in N.Y.C. for more than, this stop should be fairly high on your list.

You better come prepared to get your drink on because the mugs come fast and furious. The food is nothing to write home about and, as you already know, the beer selection isnāt impressive but itās a great time if youāre looking to drinkā¦.heavily. By the way, if youāre nursing your beer, theyāll let everyone know.

McSorley's is a rare bar. The beer selection is awesome only based upon the fact that there are two beers - light and dark. You have to order in pairs - two and two, four and four, six and six, etc. They're both good in their own right.
We went the day after St. Patrick's and had to wait in a line outside, but mann was it worth it. Once inside, huddled standing around tables in front until grabbing seats at a table in back. At the communal table, we hung out with about five different groups of people and had a blast with constant orders for beer.
Ended up staying here a LOT onger than we had planned, but that's alright. It's a must see on any NYC drinking tour.

My visit to McSorley's was buy far the best part of my visit to NYC. The light and dark beer are excellent! I usually do not like ANY beer, but this was awesome! I love the atmosphere, that is what really makes the place truely outstanding. I will definately return!

Best bar in the world. Only two beers to choose from but the light and dark are both great. Just a great atmosphere. Doesn't have a big menu but the food is excellent at a decent price. I've been coming here for over thirty years and I still look forward to each visit. If you go, then just remember to put a lot of mustard on your cheese, onions and crackers.

Went to Mcsorley first time yesterday. Sat in booth up front w/ payphone. Phone rings, I answer McSorleys. It's a guy looking for the website of McSorleys. I look behind the bar, "Well the bartender has a garbage bag tied around his waist under his apron. I doubt they have a website" Atmosphere is amazing. Rich in history and sawdust.

I don't understand how people can say this place has awesome. They are two beers on tap and, at best, are ordinary and plain. The atmosphere there is great, thanks to the historical feel of the place, but that's it.

My husband and his friends used to go to McSorley's in their youngers years. Our son and daughter, other relatives, and myself were going to NYC for some sightseeing and he suggested we go there too. It was a great break in the day, the beer was refreshing, and the liverwurst sandwich was thick and great. (You don't find them sold in Washington State.)

The quality of the beer really is not awesome, it is the atmosphere that makes the beer! My favorite NYC Bar. Nothing beats the Cheese Plate. We got the waitress to give us the mustard recipe!! It is just Colemans mustard powder mixed with McSorleys Dark. Try it at home! I asked the bartender what the sawdust was for. He said it was to soak up the Beer, the Booze and the Blood. Classic! Make sure you check out the urinals THEY ARE HUGE !!!

I haven't been to McSorley's in 20 years. I really miss the place. I first went there on my birthday, with my father, when I turned 9 years old in 1966. The history and atmosphere of McSorley's makes it one of a kind.

If it's good enough for Abe Lincoln (who visited McSorley's after his speech at Cooper Union)it's good enough for me. So what if there are only two beers to choose from (Light or Dark), the ghosts in this place more than make up for it.
