Only go if you like microbrews and independents and foreign beer. Do NOT go here for the atmosphere or for comfort. The bar stools are rickety and the pleather surfaces are ripped and cracked. I went in the winter and it was cold in the bar, so cold I wondered if it was heated at all. Alas, the night that I was there all three hand pumps were Yards products, and I'm not a fan of Yards (yes, I know that's sacrilege in Philadelphia). Also the bar smelled damp and moldy.
This bar desperately needs renovation and heating. Given that Philadelphia is a great beer city with many outstanding bars and pubs that feature only quality beer (Eulogy, Monks, Standard Tap, McGillan's, Nodding Head, Ludwig's, Druids Keep, and many others), there is no reason to sit in a dank, cold, bar on a wobbly stool.

A good place close to the Manayunk Brewpub. Hand pump selection alone (2 Yards, and a Troegs) should merit a stop, but also offers many other good taps and a very respectable bottled beer selection. Maybe not your typical "corner bar", but definitely was established with the best interests of beer lovers in mind. Drive carefully down those narrow streets, though!

Dawson Street is favorite place in an otherwise tourist/yuppie scene. Its a common place for beer lovers and the people who staff the trendy main street Manyunck joints. This isn't one of them! Dave always has an excellent selection of draft beers and a good selection of bottled beer. Do you need bottles with his changing selection of drafts? Customers know their beers (at least the "drive time" imbibers. Dave (owner) and bartender Jake are also well informed and make good suggestions. The other bartenders vary widely in skill and knowledge about malt beverages. some don't seem to care much . . . draw a draft and sit in the corner to read or talk on cell phones.

This place rocks, $2 Guiness pints on Monday nights can't be beat, just don't touch anything in the mens room! Beer selection is thought out, not just slapped together. Needs more Wyerbacher on tap!

On pump: Yards ESA and Old Bart (be careful!!), Stoudt's Pilsner (yummy). Also: Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, Yards Saison, Guiness. Owner Dave knows his beer and was fun to listen to.

No crap on tap. 3 hand pumps; always something interesting to go with a Yards offering. Excellent bottle selection. Not the place for a first date. It's dark, dirty, downright awesome!! And others are right: bartenders can be unfriendly. They serve you beer and go sit in a corner!! One of Philly's best beer bars.

Great beer selection, owner refuses to carry any Anheiser-Busch products, which is a good thing in my opinion. Great selection of beers. Atmosphere needs a lot of work. The tables make you feel like you're in a cafeteria.

Truly a beer mecca. These guys know how to keep a beer fiend happy, and Victory's awesome HopDevil IPA on the beer engine is a great start.
