Stopped in for a beer a few nights ago and had to have a hefe, since I really like that style and it's their flagship beer. It was very good, but I've had better from lesser-known brewers. Bar area is really small, especially given the size of the brewery buildings. Servers were friendly.

Suprised to see how busy it was at lunch, but after the beer and food I soon figured it out. Top Drop and Drifter were so much better from tap than bottle. The hefe was good too but just not my style. (thanks for the samples). For lunch I had the sausage sampler and pretzel and fondue. Both were very good but I would have liked it if the sausages weren't cut up a mixed together, hard to tell what was what, regardless, was pretty good. The service at the bar was great, the bartender (monday afternoon) was very knowlegeable about everything on tap and other area brew pubs. I would definately make it a point to stop in for a couple beers when in Portland.

Typically their beers are very good, middle-weight, every balanced beers. They have both one the best beers I've ever had and one of the worst. The best was the Low-down ginger brown that they made for the Summer Brew Fest a few years ago. The beer was so popular that they would only sell it by the glass at the brewery. The worst was a sample of snowplow that I had this past winter. I'm not a fan of sweet beer.
The food is excellent. They have a really good deals on beer for happy hour, although it's limited to specific days. Oh, and the berry cobbler is awesome!
A very nice place to take people from out of town, and they also have tours of the brewery.

Went to 13 brewpubs/breweries in one week 4/29-5/6, so I cannot write too much for each one, but "Beervanna" is the appropriate name for Portland. Every BP, beerbar we went to was top notch and friendly with great to awesome beers and service with few exception- the ones filled with smoke. But overall, compared to east coast, Portland is THE place for real beer lovers to spend at least a week. And we only did 2 McMenamins. Fly to Portland, grab an offcial beer map, hop on public transit (every BP was on a bus/tram/train line or a short walk) and have a beer blast!

Tried the new Halo beer and it wasnt hoppy enough but still good. (Deschutes just came out with the Inversion Ipa which I tried the same day and its much hoppier.)Nice place and food looked good. Beer wasnt good enough to keep me from going to my favorite place, the concordia ale house. I liked the place but prefer hoppier, stronger beers. Your taste may be different than mine. Good place to go overall. No complaints.

One of the country's better micros - they have a national distribution; of course, this fact should'nt prevent any Pubcrawler from making the trip. Widmers is situated in an industrial looking area, but is accessible by MAX Light Rail (Yellow Line-Albina/Mississipi Station, which is about 2 or 3 blocks away - in fact, the MAX runs past the door). The small bar area is rather cramped and noisy, what with PDXers yammering on their cells all the live long day. The menu is heavy on sausages -very good and hearty. Widmers runs the gamut of styles, offering 8-9 taps to quench one's thirst (including nitro). Here is what I tried: Drop Top Amber, an Alt, IPA and the (nitro) Brown Ale, the latter being served to cold for my personal taste. Great Happy Hour prices and pretty pleasing ambience, makes Widmers worth the trip to Portland, AKA Beervana.

I haven't been here yet, but it is on my "to do" list. My buddy used to frequent the place and he loves it. The Hefeweizen is my all time favorite.

The Irish Stout on Nitro is the best I have had. You have to wait until Feb. to get it but it's worth it. Great place to eat with good service.

Best in Portland for overall brewpub experience. Offer a tap for homebrewers to show-off their wares.

Love the beer. Food is excellent as well. The first place I visit once I get off the plane. Worth a trip while in Portland for sure. They have a great happy hour and specials for Monday night football too, which can't be beat.

If I were to choose one brewery to live near, this would be the one (definately not because of the neighborhood). The beer is great, the selection is great and the rotating tap is always of interest. It has the best food of any Northwest brewery. Even if you have friends or relatives that are not beer fans, make them join you for the food. The atmosphere is great, but go early to make sure to secure seating if you have a group of more than three or four.

I've never been disappointed in any of my trips to Widmers. I'm a big Widmer Hef fan, whether it be a true hef, their version of a hef(I belive), or a wheat beer. Lets stop being snobs and enjoy it. A thousand times better straight from their own taps then the bottles I often have trouble convincing myself to try anything else on tap when I'm there. The drive to Portland is worth it just for the sausages they serve as well, excellent food, excellent super fresh beer. No one should pass this place up.

Beers are good, Hop Jack was excellent--wish you could get something other than just their wheat beer east of the Mississippi!

Well,
Caveat: I am typing this review through beer goggles, so... I'm not much for german food, which was my only complaint with the Widmer Gasthous. The Oktoberfest was incredible. Simply incredible. Fragrant, delectible, and frankly, an impedence to the working lunch. High octane, in the parlance and worth every penny spent. The Hefe was cloudy, and this is as it should be. A slice of lemon, a pint of beer, and thou...
Get thee hence, fair beer wench and service thy custom...
As Jimmy would put it...
Why don't we get drunk...

Nice atmosphere. The Hop Jack was good but my wife really raved over the Milk Stout. Food was good and they even had the Gator football game on the TV.

There beers were pretty good, but I was very disipointed with the hefeweizen. What they are producing is a wheat beer, and not a true Hefewezein. There is no banana or clove aroma! Overall, it is a nic place to visit.

VERY DISAPOINTED IN WIDMER!! Ive had their awsome wheat many times and the Hop Jack is not bad but the other beers on tap were very nasty with a burnt taste to at least three of the seasonals. Worth a brew tour but I think they shhould stick to the old standard wheat.

The Hefeweizen is definitely better fresh at the brewpub than getting it in Chicago, and unfortunately none of Widmer's other brews are available in Chicago. Along with Bridgeport, Portland Brewing, and Rogue in Newport, one of the 4 Oregon brewpubs that make my personal "top ten." The German food is quite good and appropriate, and the service is great, but I go for the biers, especially those that I can't get anywhere else. I love the Alt and Double-Bock, as well as their Oktoberfest and Marzen. The Hefeweizen, even if it is the flagship, isn't as good as many I have had in the U.S., not to mention Deutschland. The Bourbon Bock was excellent, but Goose Island in Chicago's Bourbon County Stout is better (one of the very few Chicago brews that stand up to Portland's).
