The bar is a good mix of neighborhood "regulars' bar" during the week but can be a bit of a meat market on the weekends (not a bad thing and fairly common in Albany). You need to watch out when you pay in plastic though. Debit and credit cards appear to be regularly charged twice and the staff is usually dismissive of the issue even when you show them a bank statement. No food and no frozen drinks (or anything with milk or coffee), but it's great for beer and shot drinkers who pay in cash.

Stopped by for a quick pint....loved the atmosphere. Will make it a point to stop in whenever I am in the Albany area.

We found ourselves with nothing to do on Holloween this year so we decided to check out The Lionheart for a few pints. I hadn't been there since they switched locations from Lark St. a few years back and was pleasantly suprised with the laid back atmosphere. A few struggling Patriots fans were crying in their beer but mostly everybody was having a good time. What a tap selection! Chris the barman talked us into the Young's Double Chocolate Stout and we never looked back. Free pool too! Much to our enjoyment there was a free live band calling themselves Fantastic Machine. They rocked! Apparently they will be playing there twice a month on Sundays and will be ending by 11pm for all us working class suckers. All in all a great place with the best beer in Albany by far. Check it out.

This is THE place to go on Madison Avenue! They have 32 taps and you won't find Bud or Coors light amongst them (thank God). Check the chalkboard down the far end of the bar as the selection changes daily. Thursday night I was introduced to a very hoppy Southern Tier IPA, which I followed with a couple of very fresh UBU Ales. They had just kicked the Rogue Dry-Hopped Red (rats). If I had more time I would have hit the Allagash 3X and Big Foot. Oh, well – there’s always Sunday.
Chris the barman is a gentleman and statesman, and can carry on a conversation about the vicissitudes of life without the usual whining. There is a mixed crowd and always good conversation with the guy sitting next to you. That and I always run into someone I know there. Park across the street behind El Loco and stay off of Delaware Avenue. And I almost forgot the happy hour – 4:00 to 7:00 PM M-F with all pints priced at $2.00 each. Sunday is a buck off pints and free pool and popcorn. And for sporting events they have the largest projection television in Albany in the back room.

The new location on Madison Ave. is fantastic! It's a roomy, nicely renovated, comfortable space with a decent beer list (it takes a menu like the Beer Circus' in Brussels to get me really excited). I'll be in with greater frequency once the state is smoke free!

Lionheart is roughly a cross between a hip college bar littered with intellectuals who still know fun and a corner bar... This place has that worn and grimy feeling, lack of light... old fashion wood feeling...
The beer selection is the redeemer at Lionheart... I noticed a well picked 12-18 quality beers... A well balanced list that included Franzi'....
Lionheart adds a somewhat regular hand to the arts community... They featured an Ed Wood film festival- the workings of local Albany inhabitants, putting their spin on tac-o-mericanization of cinema... Low quality, high fun factor...
Caught wind that Lionheat is losing the non-bar building space where you should wisely run to avoid choking on the bar smoke... As such, they plan on moving the bar somewhere nearby in the coming year.

If you like late night beer bars, this is the location. The Lionheart is Conviently located in the center of Albany, with several other "destinations" on Lark Street. With Great Selection of Beer, comfortable seating, great atmosphere and crowd, what else do you need? Great can, bottle, and on-tap selection as well as full bar / liqour. Friendly Staff. Great Overall! See you here.

I was actually quite impressed by the selection at Lionheart. The draft selection was okay (Guinness, Beamish, Franziskaner, Tetley's nitro, #9, Dinkel Acker Dark, and HopDevil), and what I had was in good condition, but the bottle selection had some impressive out-of-the-ordinary finds: Coniston Bluebird, Koff Porter, Fuller's Porter, La Fin du Monde, and Aventinus. It's not a huge selection, but a well-chosen one, IMO. I'd actually like to see fewer taps and better ones in most bars. I had a very nice time here, chatting with patrons (arguing with one, but I understand that's how Kathleen is) and watching the action out on the street. The stairs are a bit tough to negotiate when you've had a few...

While there is never a wide variety of beer, there is always at least 1 or 2 worth drinking. The floorplan is cramped, especially at the bar, and the sofas are sorely missed. The level of smoke is VERY high; it was difficult for even the hops of Sierra Nevada Celebration to cut through. They should at least open a window!

Awesome says it all...a little small inside, but that's what makes so easy to make new friends. The bartenders are the best! This is where the real people go to drink great beer!

They actually call this place a pub. More like a hole in the wall with warm Coors light falling out. I suggest turning the land into a playground.

I usually stop here after grabbing a bite to eat at El Loco around the corner. They always have something good on tap. I like the way the place is split in two rooms. Good local music scene too. If you're looking for someplace to go after Mahar's closes, this is a very good choice.
