Classy place by all standards. Sign outside says since 1868. 11 Taps and all top shelf. Super classy lady pouring the suds. She had just kicked their own brew (my luck), but I wasn’t too down that a fresh Lindemans Framboise didn’t perk me up right quick (16-oz no less). Bonus was I got the last one out of that tap! Doing the walking thing I could do some damage here. There was a nice mix of local beers (Harpoon, Sam, Victory and Brooklyn), and a killer lineup of Spaten Lager, Spaten Optimator, Warsteiner Pilsner, Warsteiner Dunkel, Paulaner Hefeweizen, Franziskaner, Hofbrau Munich Original, Hoegarden, Stella Artois, Bass, Amstel Light, and of course Guinness. If I remember correctly, and judging by the amount of beer they were pouring, the taps change quite frequently.
This is the type of place where I throw a wad on the bar and they can take what they want. With that said, I have no idea what things cost here. I still had some beans left the next morning so it couldn’t have been too bad! With digs like this, the tap lineup and the great service, if pints we’re $12 each I probably wouldn’t complain (don’t get any ideas there JW). I hope this place will be here the next time I come back. It should be seeing how long it’s already been here.

My Navy buddies and I found this place in 1969 while touring Boston. Dark German beer and the most awsome Brat's.Turned out to be a favorite place to go on every trip to Boston. The Bar back alone is worth the trip to see and well the food and beer speak for themself.Highly recommended!

A wide selection of European beers. I tried the Alt first and enjoyed it. My next selection was a Wartsteiner Dunkel and I was surprised at the strong hydrogen-sulfide aroma. The taste wasn't bad, but it was tough to get past the odor. Not being familiar with the style, I was afraid to ask if it was supposed to be that way. The atmosphere of the place is great and the decor is very authentic and comfortable.

I am "new" to your website. Would like to know if you serve a decent selection of German foods on your menu? I have a friend wish to take into Boston for his birthday and he being mostly of German decent, we both enjoy great beer, would like to visit Jacob Wirth. Please let me know your earliest convenience. Do I need a reservation? Thank you!

On the advice of another brew pub and the local Boston % Beyond publication, went to this place as a brew pub. They do make two beers -Jack's Dark and Light. These were nondescript beers, especially when the dark was served in frosted mugs. However, as a pub, the back bar was fabulous, dated 1868, and the selection of local and Euro beers very good. Overall atmosphere-real old time comfortable and yet could invision it hopping when the theater was in session.

A real hidden treasure close to the theater district. Be sure to try the clam chowder. As for beer, they have just about anything you might want and it is all fresh.

Arrived for dinner on a Monday, mid-afternoon so it was rather difficult to evaluate people conditions. However the memorabilia and dark, solid wood altar type bar were impressive. Started with a Scottish ale properly served in a pint pub glass. Meal was the best sauerbrauten I have ever had--a large cut of agressively sour, tender beef over a bed of poppy seed noodles, accompanied by nicely textured red cabbage. Finished with a 20 oz. Pauliner Weiss served in a fluted glass. Jacob Wirth is a real find, go out of your way to get there sort of place. They have been doing it right for over 130 years!

This place really has a great variety of beers; especially German Brews, and awesome food, that reminds me of my home town. Having a beer and food at this place is really a special experience!

One of the last of the true great "finds" in town. This establishment offers great beer and a wonderful menu. If you are a fan of German food and great beer you have found heaven at Jacob Wirth's!
