Hopefully our visit was on an off day, judging from previous reviews. 2 of 3 beers were good, but the Quasar IPA had a strange scorched taste I've never come across before in any beer, not even smoked ales. Not a pleasant roast flavour, more nasty burned toast-like. The Porter and regular IPA were good. "Seat yourself" sign for the inside, then were ignored by the 3-4 waitstaff gossiping at the bar with the bartender and manager on duty. Had to order all pints at the bar from the non-speaking bartender (waitress did swoop by while I was up to collect an empty glass, so they were on duty and knew we were there), didn't order any food because no menus were offered and the overall vibe was not welcoming. Atmosphere was not what I look for in brewpubs and friendly watering holes. As an old UK pub buddy used to say, if you walk into the pub and don't feel welcome, walk back out, and have a pint somewhere else. Triple Rock and Bear's Lair in Berkeley were totally friendly, so I know it's not the town.

Stopped in on a drizzly Sunday afternoon. Despite the dreary weather, the place was doing a pretty good business. Lots of options for seating altough there are only four stools at the bar. Considering there are no TVs, a bar isn't all that necessary. And it is Berkeley so intellectual conversations are probably the expected mode of entertainment. They had 10 "house" brews on tap to go along with at least that many guest beers. Had a glass each of the Red Spot Ale and the Porter. Both were really good although the Porter seemed to lack a little body. The menu isn't that extensive but they manage to cover all the bases. Had the chicken skewers with peanut sauce which was very good. All in all, enjoyed the visit. And if this place isn't quite your cup of tea, it's a short walk down Shattuck Ave. to the Triple Rock.

Stopped in on a drizzly Sunday afternoon and business was still brisk. Lots of options for seating but there are only four stools at the bar. Considering there are no TVs to watch I assume bar seating isn't much of a priority. They did have 10 "house" brews to go along with an equal amount of guest taps. Had a glass each of the Red Spot Ale and the Porter. Both were good although the Porter seemed to lack a little body. Snacked on some tasty chicken skewers with peanut sauce. The lunch menu wasn't very extensive but they covered all the bases. All in all, a nice place. And if it's not to your liking you could always stroll down Shattuck Ave. a couple blocks to the Triple Rock.

Nice place for a beer and a meal. Jupiter's beers are very good; they also have an assortment of northern California favorites, including Anderson Valley and Moonlight.
I had the Quasar Double IPA- nice body ,good flavor somewhat overshadowed by too much hops. My wife had Moonlight's Lunatic Lager- outstanding beer.
We went at lunch- very kid friendly.

This was a great bar! It consists of upstairs and downstairs seating areas with a downstairs bar and an open patio in the rear. Decor is old wood and the look and atmosphere feel similar to a British pub.
They had about 8 house brews which are contract-brewed locally. An IPA was outstanding, very hoppy as I prefer. I could have stayed with the house beers and been very happy but opted to try another local IPA (can't remember the name, unfortunately) on draft which was also outstanding. The beer selection was superb, with the house beers along with a dozen or so others and a few ciders. I sat upstairs as the bar was packed but didn't see any Bud or other ricewater anywhere. Food focuses on pizza and pub fare. My pizza (Cassiopeia: BBQ chicken, onions, etc.) was excellent. My server, Ben, was friendly and attentive even though it was quite packed early on a Friday night. He recommended several beers and was obviously familiar with them all. The crowd was mainly locals with several attractive women from nearby UC-Berkeley. Worth a trip in itself.

Jupiter, located very close to the Berkeley stop on the BART, brews a nice selection of house beers (off-site, I gather), although I was even more impressed by the guest beers available on draft. You'd be hard pressed not to find something that appeals to your palate. The outdoor patio area (complete with fire circle) was crowded, but the bar area was very inviting.

Porter, pale ale, and amber ale were my favorites and all good. Seasonal Ol St Kinnick was pretty good (alcoholy taste worked). Red Spot Ale and IPA are both pretty good. Hefeweizen is subpar. Technically this is a brewpub since a token amount of brewing is done on premises but most is done in San Leandro. Great selection of guest beers that rotate. My pizza was just so so. I love the pub atmosphere.

Food and beer are good, but it's not worth dealing with the poor service, and the poorly trained staff who have way too much attitude

Sort of an accidental drop-in while in Berkeley...but a nice surprise! We visited on a Thursday night and the "joint was jumpin"!! Even though it seemed a little "fratt-ey" for my tases, it was a very cool place. We had a way-cool waitress who served us a sampler of all the beer they made there (even though there wasn't a sampler on the menu...and she didn't charge us either!!!)
I'll rate the beer with *'s (on a 5 point system): HefeWeizen***** (great banana tatses), Sunspot golden* (nothing special), IPA*** (very hoppy but balanced nicely with carmel undertones), Pale **** (my wifes first time liking pales), Amber**** (maltiness abound and a good aroma), Honey-wheat** (bland in flavor, but a GREAT aroma), Red-Spot (slightly hoppy but overall good).
A great place if you don't mind the noise and love good beer.

Wonderful all around! You can eat inside or out in the bi-level garden / patio which is equipted w/standing heater if it gets cold. Parking is a problem, but then it's Berkley, there is a paid lot about 1-2 blocks south and east of Jupiter. You may want to wonder inland to the parent company in Walnut Creek @ 1370 Locust St where the Jupiter Brees are actually brewed, equally great food and service, same problem parking but try to avoid peak hours, it's also much warmer in Walnut Creek and their site so layer! In Berkeley area there are many actual Brew Pubs (make beer on site) in the general area (Pyramid,Triple Rock, etc) so get out there and explore.

Although they don't brew their own, they have a fantastic selection of Bay Area beers, as well as many others. The garden area is wonderful!!!

If the selection and quality of beer weren't enough of a draw, one would surely turn into Jupiter converts after seeing the beer garden located in the rear.

Jupiter has a wonderful outdoor patio and a relaxed atmosphere. The beer selection is GREAT. This is definitely one of the best East Bay pubs. The live music, however, is often too loud and the quality is sometimes questionable.
