Definitively a must see in Austin. They are in the process of being pushed out of their original location by Austin development. It's a shame because the original location in an old warehouse(?) location with high ceilings is a great location. A shame to loose this old place! The beer selection is one of the best. Pub grub is good too.

The Gingerman is Mecca for beer lovers. Staggering selection -- local stuff, rare stuff on draft, cask ale, staff that know EVERY beer -- what more could you ask for? Okay, a little broader food selection but hey, what they've got is pretty good.
They'll be moving in the next few months, so double check before you go. And when you go, take the Dillo (free downtown bus) or a cab so you have have a roaring good time and still get home safe. See you there!

Consistently excellent hop-head hang out. The main problem with this place is deciding what beer to order. We have been stopping here for years, and the quality and choice of beers is always impressive. Never had a bad pint. Our experience with service has always been outstanding, even during peak hours - the bartenders will notice you, even to remembering what pint you ordered when you wander back up. This last New Year's, even with people lined up at the bar, we had no problem getting fast, professional service. Great place for pre and post pints, for whatever entertainment brings you to downtown Austin, or it can be the destination for a good pub session.

I visited this beer bar on 12/17/05 looking for my favorite winter brews and was a bit disappointed. They had already run out of Samuel Smith's and Young's winter offerings. The Sierra Nevada was excellent as was the Saint Arnold's Cask. Anchor was my final winter brew of the evening and it was as good as always. Due to city ordinance smoking is no longer allowed inside, but the back patio is open and ready for your nicotine needs.

Beer heaven. Staff knows it's stuff. So many great beers, some available nowhere else in the state. A good pour, too. Also a good juke box.

This is my very favorite beer bar, period. They always have very good beers on tap, and don't waste much space on so-so beers; the knowledgable and helpful staff have introduced me to a number of new and delicious beer choices over the years; the atmosphere (if you avoid the obvious rush times) is real laid-back and relaxing, great in late afternoons. Sure, some places have more, but its quality that counts.

Parked in the adjacent lot with the intention of walking around and visiting several of the neighborhood pubs. Should have stayed here because they are the best I visited. (See Bitter End review.) 82 beers on tap as well as an immense selectio of bottles. Lots of Texan beers represented. Server not only friendly but very knowledgeable about ALL the beers. Small kitchen with limited menu.

THE place to go in Austin for a good craft beer. If you can't find something you like here, you don't like beer! Nice outside patio garden in the warm weather. Nice happy hour specials during the week!

Ditto most of the (good) comments below.
Great outdoors seating area in the back, particularly yesterday when the temp. hit 80F (eat your hearts out Yankees!!!)
Great jukebox..
I had two beers the first time I went in last night ( I went twice in one night!). The bartender actually sent me over a sample without me even asking-touch of class and great bartending there. Great setting for drinking beer and hanging out. Have fun...

This place is a MUST for any true beer lover. Microbrews from Austin, Houston, and other areas of Texas, as well as incredible beers from all over the country and the world!!! The workers are friendly and will not hesitate to give out liberal amounts of samples, as well as great advice on places to eat/things to do. The atmosphere is an interesting cross between a traditional american watering hole, and a British/Irish style pub. If I lived near Austin I would probably destroy my liver at this place!!

Great selection, great beer! Bartenders seem a little arrogant and full of themselves at times. What can you do though?

On our tour of the 5 Ginger Man pubs (NY, Connecticut, Dallas Austin & Houston) last week this was the best by far. Great beers, 83 on tap & knowledgeable staff.

Beer bars do not get much better than this. Combine a great selection of beer with a great laid-back atmosphere and you have the Ginger Man. Normally, I detest chains, but I would give my left one for them to open one in Milwaukee.

This pub has one of the best selections of Belgian beer. The only places that I know of that carry more are: Monk's Cafe in Philly, and Toronado in San Francisco.

So many beers,so little time! So many people, so little room! One of the other reviews says get there early. I say you better get there as soon as they open the doors. If I'd had a shock gun I could have hit the guy in front of me and taken out half of the bar.(Probably would have gotten me to the front of the line quicker) Nevertheless, this place is worth all the hassles. I highly recommend it.

Get there early! Lounging on the couches takes the experience to new heights. Good Beer, Good Jukebox, Comfortable Couch, makes for a good time.
