The java porter has never been beaten in my book of many years and many beers. If you like a coffee porter, this is unforgettable. Specialties such as heather, kolsch, berry-weisse etc. are nearing sublime in some seasons (not always and not all...). Brewer comes with a surprising pedigree and is known to have hand-crafted goodies like cask conditioned seasonals w/ hops from his own garden.
Go there. Enjoy! It is a little, unknown pilgrimage experience.
Food is ok...too bad they had to stop the peanut-shell experience at the bar!

The Beer, Cheese, Broccoli soup was okay. Nothing to write home about. I tried the IPA which besides being nicley hopped also had a sweet taste that I couldn't place. The Raw Wheat I thought was pretty good. The Porter was non-desript and served too cold. The service just sucked. I have no idea where the waitress would go but very rarely check on us unless we waved her down and that was a chore.

We stopped by the Blind Tiger after the Louisville-Kansas State game on Saturday. The beer is good, the food is decent, and the help was great. The Saturday specials including 5 dollar burgers and $6.50 pitchers should not be missed. A great place to stop when you're in little 'ol Topeka, Kansas. I'll be back!

Java porter...mmmm! It can be a little inconsistent, but when it is good it is incredible. The Rye is good & grainy, nice job on the Kolsch - perfect for the nasty Topeka heat. The whiskey stout is incredibly rich and pretty yum. The brewer uses his own backyard hops sometimes in seasonals - nice touch. The selection is fantastic - you can easily find at least 2 or 3 that you will have a tough time choosing. Samplers are generous and bartenders are accommodating. Food is disappointing, I don't recommend it.

I've been in this brewpub several times over the last 4 years and never had a bad anything but a high quality beer. I try to stop whwnwver travel takes me through Topeka. They have a nice variety of beer with a number of seasonal and special brews. There is almost always cask ale available. Staff has always been very courteous even when our group included a child that has visited the brewpub from infancy to three years of age. Great place. Don't put much stock in the poor quality beer reviews. They have GABF medals to testify to their beer quality. One guy who apprenticed here has opened a nice brepub in Hays, KS. with several similar high quality beers.

37TH STREET Abbey Ale (seasonal) 4/10; Raw Wheat 2/10; Cerveza Fiesta (a pilsner) 2/10; Tailwind Rye 2/10. Rating is where 10 is best. Fifteen brews on tap. Good chicken and pulled pork.

Kind of a funky location in Topeka, plus its in Topeka. Great looking building though with lots of fun little nooks and crannys in the multi-level layout. The beer selection almost overpowers their very good beers. With a dozen (maybe more?) of thier own on tap, plus a standard selection of other macros (I believe, but who wants those?) its difficult to try them all in one visit. Food left a little to be desired, but I only had the wings (wouldn't reccomend). But the place is perhaps unduely overshadowed by Free State to the East, and should be a must stop for those visiting NE Kansas.

The selection and quality of the beer is outstanding. The food is typical bar food perhaps a step above some nights. If you love beer though this is a must.

This place has great beer and they keep it true to the style. Food was great and the wait staff very friendly. We tried all of the beers not one was bad. Besure to try the barley wine and the stout. Keep up the good work. We will be back.

You tight bustard. I basicly give 15-20% for bad service. The servers work for $2.13/hr plus tips. Quit your bitching. It is for clowns like you that hospitality industry has done the standard tip when parties of 6/8 are served, REGARDLESS OF BREAKOUT OF THE TICKET. Cheapskate... PS breaking out the check is extra work for the server.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if one bill is $100 bucks the tip is $18.00. two bills at $50 bucks each at 18% is $9 bucks each for a total of $18 bucks. Seems the server did just fine.

My parents and 2 brothers and their wives went out to eat there one night. So there was a total of 6 people, plus 1 baby. my parents and 1 couple were on 1 ticket and my other brother and his wife were on another seperate ticket. the waitress charged them 18% on each separate ticket. so that greedy girl made like a $40 tip all together. I understand that whole gratuity thing added on with a party of a certain number but these were 2 separate tickets, 4 on one and 2 on the other, and she added 18% on both tickets. I have worked there before and I think the tickets should be rung up by people other than those trying to get a tip so the customers don't get ripped off by an individual. But my family members will not eat there again after that incident.

8 or more beers on tap, including an IPA cask ale and a Belguim White. I had both plus a Hefeweizen and they were all quality brews. Extensive menu with lots of meat-whadda you expect in the middle of the Midwest U.S.? I'll try this place again next time I'm in Topeka.

The Blind Tiger boast an impressive lineup of twelve ales, sadly a sampler consists of only four beers that can be chosen. I had an under hopped but enjoyable IPA, a subtly flavored raspberry wheat, a refreshing hefeweizen sans lemon, and a stout that while enjoyable lacked that quintessential characteristic mouthfeel. The food is a combination of contemporary American cuisine and pub grub.

Wow, 12 house beers and not a loser in the bunch. Even the entry style beers such as the Mexican style lager and rye beer were flavorful and with good body. Maibock excellent, whole lineup was impressive. Tiger Tail appetizers were like little ribs, some good. Topeka's only brewpub made the trip worth it.

Things have really changed since the last time I reviewed this place. They have since gotten a new brewer and the quality of the beer has dramatically improved. Some selections, like the imperial stout and IPA are outstanding. Definitely worth a visit.

The IPA was a bit underhopped for my tastes and was a bit too malty for style. The pale ale and amber were quite good and well balanced, but the porter was unremarkable and the stout lacked body-- was almost watery. Didn't try the other beers they had. I ordered a spinach and artichoke pizza that had too much cheese-- couldn't taste anything else! The crust wasn't crisp enough. BUT- I thoroughly enjoyed the amber and the pale ale. Service at the bar was average. The bartender seemed stoic.

Place is HUGE...300 cars in parking lot, which was full at 8 pm Friday. Their amber was fresh-tasting and well balanced. With it the waiter brought, gratis, samples of the stout (very, very well balanced and tasty) and honey-wheat (very light, smooth and refreshing). On the other hand, the stout was not on the regular beer list, which might have been brought to my attention. Ate a non-descript ham-stuffed chicken. Zuccini that came with it was totally mush and overcooked.

A friend of mine is the brewer here, but sorry Terry, it isn't quite there yet. I know it is not entirely your fault as you don't get to brew everything the way it should be brewed. For some reason the idiots in this town go nuts for this place and the owners are afraid to brew REAL BEER in fear that they will scare off the massive crowds. The food is good but a new menu is overdue, although I do head over there at least once a week...what can I say, Barley's is closed! (for now)

This place had twelve year olds seating customers, and had an unfiltered wheat milkshake. I'm not kidding, I've tasted alot of beers, but never have I seen so many people excited about crappy beer!
