if you're not a lover of blackened voodoo lager, you don't love dark beers. and if you don't love dark beers, keep your mouth shut, because you don't love beer.
blackened voodoo is one of the tastiest the U.S. has to offer. not quite as hefty as, say, a spaten optimator, but a deep, dark lager with a crisp aftertaste. very hard to find, which is a shame. haven't seen the rest of their lineup thru my local beer vendors, so i haven't much to say about the others, although i do hear good things about the crimson voodoo.
i give blackened voodoo a 5 out of 5.

I'm a NOLA native, but Dixie is just swill. If you like Miller Lite and Milwaukee's Best, you'll love Dixie!

I haven't had a Blackened VooDoo in about 4 years - I didn't know if it even existed still... and I LOVE it! I would love to find a place to purchase it again -- in MA or NH??

I have never been to the brewery. However, I do like Dixie Blackened Voodoo. But, I hated one of the Dixie brews so much that I had to pour it in the sink. I believe it was a Dixie Lager. I hated it so much I did not pay attention to the label. Perhaps if I see another bottle that resembles it, I will give it a second chance.

I had a chance to tour the brewery with a group of brewers. It is a fine old place, built in 1906. Most of the equipment seems original, including huge cypress vats. Sadly, the brewery needs major restoration and can function at only a fraction of its original capacity. That's why it is hard to find despite the good reviews.

We buy Dixie Beer whenever we are in New Orleans. Why can't we find it in Florida??? We ration out what we bring home all throughout the year.

Dixie is the best beer to drink between the 35² South and the 35² North.

I live in Omaha. Never been to New Orleans (sorry - not by choice). BUT, I am addicted to White Moose, and is about as hard to get as...well, anyone can finish this statement with whatever they'd like. Please send more to Omaha more often!

As an update, at the local WYES beer tasting last Saturday Dixie was there with all four beers. They do not have a brewpub and do not offer brewery tours. White Moose is carried by Dorignac's grocery chain. The other beers are carried more widely, but seem more popular outside of New Orleans.

Dixie is a microbrewery, not a brewpub, so you have to look for their beers in local pubs and supermarkets. Decades ago they were an ordinary regional brewery, but have survived by brewing craft type beers. They still sell a bland lager, and from time to time try to market a light. But they are best at Blackened Voodoo, a malty dark lager, and Crimson Voodoo, a reddish beer. Their most interesting beer is called White Moose, which is usually only found in small bottles. It is a chocolate dessert beer. They have also experimented with a very strongly flavoured rauchbeer. Although brewed in New Orleans, it is actually harder to find than Abita from across the lake. Visitors to New Orleans should give this local brewer a try. It is a shame New Orleans bars do not support it more strongly.

Dixie isn't all that bad, when you got to kill a thirst in the 110 degree heat (and 95% humidity) of a typical day on Canal Street, but "awesome"?? Please. Blacked Voodoo isn't bad, but is more hype than substance...//TSB

I wasn't aware that Dixie, as a microbrewery, had any food. Are you folks just making this up?
