First, I want to be clear - I didn't make it to the Summit but instead had the good fortune to purchase their excellent "Extra Pale Ale" at a liquor store during a recent visit to the Twin Cities. I can only imagine how pleasurable this stuff is on tap; the bottled version was splendid in all respects. Upon my return to the Twin Cities, my intinerary will include a stop at the Summit - yours should, too!

The Extra Pale is fantastic, the Hefe is near the top of the class, and the Porter is a terrific representation of the style. Summit is not only one of Minnesota's best, but is one of the top 10 micros in the Great Lakes region - up there with the likes of Capital, New Glarus, Bell's, Michigan Brewing, and GLBC.

The brewery tour is fun and informative. They take a lot of pride in brewing and bottling all of their own beer and not contracting out. The Pale Ale, IPA, Porter and Wheat are tops in their categories. And oh my, the Winter Ale! It is one of the few things that genuinely warms the heart during a Minnesota winter.

The Extra Pale Ale is absolutely wonderful and is available seemingly everywhere in the metro area; one of the great things about the Twin Cities is that this lovely beer will be on tap almost anywhere you go. Everything brewed by Summit is excellent.

Terrific Microbrewery. All their beers produced are excellent and true to the traditional charecteristics for each type. If at all possible one must try their Maibock or Altbier - you will not be dissappointed.

Summit is the thing I miss the most about the Twin Cities. I am probably going to have to go back to visit, just to get some IPA. Their Maibock is my favorite.

Summit is what I miss the most about the Twin Cities. All of their beers are spectacular. They are also now using the Weihenstephan weizen yeast in their Hefeweizen for the true German weizen character. Don't miss this brewery.

Consistently great beer. The Great Northern Porter and Maibock are exceptional, the Pale Ale is very good. The Hefeweizen is poor; it's devoid of the bouquet/esters (not bananna or clove here!) associated with fermentation using typical weizen yeasts. All their other beers are highly recommended!
