Despite several other trips I've previously made to Columbus, today was the first day that I had the opportunity to stop in at the Columbus Brewing Company. We arrived around 12:30pm, and had about a 15-20 minute wait for a table. Our server Julie was great and made sure we had everything we needed and that we enjoyed our visit.
I tried the beer sampler and was impressed with just about all of their seven beers: Honey Wheat, Apricot Ale, Pale Ale, 90 Schilling Scotch Ale, 1859 Porter, IPA, and Winter Warmer. Each was a fantastic example of the style, without an over-the-top approach to the beer. I couldn't pick out a favorite. The IPA did not have an overwhelmingly strong hop aroma to it, but certainly had a wonderful hop flavor. The Winter Warmer, their seasonal, also had a good bit of hops to it, but not too much.
The French Onion soup we tried was good, but the Shaved Prime Rib sandwich was superb. Lastly, we tried the Blueberry Milk Chocolate Bread Pudding. Before we ordered, we were pretty sure that's what we wanted for dessert, but we checked with Julie. She said it was her favorite and we wouldn't be disappointed. She was absolutely right! This dessert was marvelous; the mix of fruit, chocolate, and bread was a wonderful combination, especially topped with the small scoop of ice cream. I still had a few sips of the last four beers of the sampler. Each complimented the dessert nicely, although I think I'd have to say the Porter accompanied it the best.
I am very happy we made it there and I certainly hope to get back to CBC before we move away from Ohio. I thought the beer and food was far better than Barley's, which I have previously visited. A definite brewery of choice in Columbus for me!

Of course I didn't find this place until the last night I was in town. Its IPA blows away the Elevator's, and $1.75 less a pint. It's a true western IPA finished with simcoe hops, a rarity east of Colorado. If you're a hop head and find yourself in Columbus, you MUST come here. The service and food were fantastic, too, though the food isn't "fine dining" like many brew pubs.

This is a somewhat overdue review of a lunchtime visit to Columbus Brewing back on a Thursday in mid-May. Their lunch business was very strong that day, resulting in about a 10-15 minute wait for a table. We were seated in one of the booths in the back of the restaurant that looks out over the working brewery where we could see that bottling was going on that day. Our server was exceptionally enthusiastic and attentive (I'm sorry I have forgotten her name). Upon explaining that our visit there was part of the "Great American Beer Tour" associated with American Craft Beer Week, she sought out the manager so he could come by and visit with us. He had some honest comments about the beers in the sample tray in front of us, including one style where he noted that another brewery in town did a version that he actually preferred. I thought the beers were generally well done, with my favorites probably being the porter and the IPA. Our food, a BBQ chicken chopped salad and a roasted turkey wrap, was excellent as well. Many of the items on the menu have a suggested beer pairing. This is a recommended stop. Note - there are currently two different Columbus Brewing websites: www.columbusbrewing.com, which shows the bottled products, and www.columbusbrewingco.com, which is the brewpub website with menus and such.

Stopped by while in town. Tried two new to me on this trip; 90 shilling ruby red, malty and drinkable. Maibock had a super sweet nose and flavor. Seemed to me that the malt and hops in this brew clashed a bit. The place was packed inside and out at tlunchtime, so I have to assume that the food is pretty good.

On a day designated as a Pub Crawl day, I chose to start my adventure here. I'm glad that this was the start to my crawl instead of the end of it, because I was sort of disappointed overall.
I walked in around lunch time, so it was quite busy, but there was room at the bar. After sitting for about 15 minutes, I was finally greeted by the bartender without so much as an apology for my wait. I was not overly impressed with his beer knowledge, which in a micro-brew I find a little offensive. So I settled for the beer sampler because I was impressed with the variety of beer being offered. Unfortunately that's the last of impressed feelings I have for this place. The beers were just so-so and none really blew my socks off. The service improved after the initial wait, but the bartender still seemed confused by some of my beer questions. I'll chalk this place up to a no-go if in the area again.

The bartender did not offer much info about the beers or the brewery. Beers were pretty good. Did not eat, but I hear this chef is excellent.

A bit tricky to find, but not too bad. A nice place, if a bit upscale for a brewpub. Food was good. Beers were quite nice, IPA and porter. Worth the visit

Nothing really special about this place. The beers are adequate and, at least, better than bud and such. The food is good, but pricey. very yuppie-trendy atmosphere. If you really want good beer, go to barley's.

Overall, a pretty good establishment. This is one of Cameron Mitchell's restaurants. Mitchell is a giant in the food service biz in Columbus, so you pay a little extra for the "privaledge" of dining at one of his places...Its a bit trendy..Food is quite good, as is the presentation...Servers were friendly, although most (a lot of OSU students) didn't know a lot about beer---I can live with that though...The Pale Ale was my favorite. Apricot was nice, not too sweet.
Though, I have nothing bad to say about CBC, I would recommend going to Barley's--the best brewpub in Columbus!

Trendy site, tricky to locate. Beer was OK with the nut brown and ESB as my choices from the sampler. Apricot ale not bad for flavored beer, not overwhelmingly sweet. Road construction makes this almost not worthwhile finding from the interstate.

This place is a member of a family of restaurants. The food is artsy; you are paying for the presentation as well as the food. Most entries are in the $15 to $20. Now the beer: Columbus Pale Ale – I liked it and it was a good American Pale Ale: Hoppy, light on malt. Columbus Ohio Wheat Beer – Did not care for it, it was very light and was definitely not a Weizen. Columbus Apricot Ale – I liked it. Had an apricot nose and was bitter not sweet (Hey I like IPA and a good American pale ale so bitter is good).

The food was decent, but the beer was poor at best. I got the sampler, and only the porter was worth drinking, and it was not a good porter. Most of them had off tastes, or were NOT the style they were supposed to be. The staff had no clue either, my waiter tried to convice me that the porter was a sweet beer like a brown ale. Not really worth a visit.

This place seems to be more of a restaraunt that offers non-distinct beers for the average American beer drinker. The service was very good, but the beer was too average to for me to recommend this place. One wonders if they are an all-grain or an extract brewer.

Awesome Garlic Fries. Beer was tasty. We went at lunch and the place was packed so we sat at the bar and ordered lunch, it was kinda slow but we didn't say anything since they were very busy. When it came time to pay the bartender said "no charge you waited to long for your meal". This place is a must!!!!

Walked in and it was a mad house. Hard getting a drink at the bar. No direction in the way of the High top tables out front if there was any service there. The Hostess was toward the back of the restaurant, so it took a walk around to figure how this placed worked. Finally walked out went back to the Hotel and drank there beer there.

CBC's hand crafted Ale's are great. the Nut Brown is my favorite by far. Just wished more local resturants carried them on tap.

Very poor service and the beer was just as bad. This place closed at 12:00 on a Saturday night!! No wonder there were only 4 other people in there. Place is located in the Brewery District, which has a ton of bars to compete with...this would make you think they would be open later. We had the Stout and Pale Ale. The Stout tasted like a Porter.. a very bad one at that. And the Pale Ale actually tasted like a bad batch of home-brew. We are glad they called last call when we walked in, thereofre we didn't have to choke anymore of their beer down. Instead we went over to Hosters...which was awesome.
