Place is becoming a tappas restaurant. What a shame and such a wonderful setting. Bartender told us Microbrewy is up for sale.

Stopped in while driving through Connecticut and was disappointed to find that it's not a brewpub anymore. Still a good selection on tap and the food was OK. They're still in the midst of making changes so it's hard to say what the place will be like when they're finished.

Excellent stout and porter, reasonable line up of craft-brewed guest beers. Very striking building. I'd recommend a stop here, and will do so when in the area.

Great building & location. Too bad the food & beer are the exact opposite. It seems to be a trend in CT - weak beers and weaker food. Not worth the trip.

Awesome architecture was worth the visit all by itself. Only had the pale ale which was very good, house taps also included a wheat, light, porter and brown. Five guest taps.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch over the weekend and experienced the awesome decor and lack of crowd. They must get most of their business during the week for lunch. Of the three different styles we tried -- Winter Wheat, IPA and Brown -- the Brown was the best. The other 2 were OK, but the Wheat wasn't very balanced and he IPA was underhopped. Food was very good. Service was pleasant, but a bit slow for the lack of other patrons. Overall, I'd return if passing through the area. It's easy to get to right off of I-95.

I always visit while in the area for their Banker's Bitters. Sadly, it is no longer available. The IPA is just OK.

Stopped in on a rainy Sunday night. The place was dead except for a few people at the bar. Maybe 5 groups of people dined the whole time we were there. Dark, cozy atmosphere. Liked the decor, much like everyone else. Service was good. The beer was OK. Not bad, but not the greatest either. They had the usual selection, nothing out of the ordinary...pale ale, brown ale,stout,etc.,etc. They did have a barleywine, $6 a glass. Skipped it. My 5 beer sampler arrived warm, almost room temperature. (note to bartender - if it's a slow night, let the tap run for a sec. or two before you fill my little 5oz glasses - warm beer from the tap lines pisses off the customer.)The food was a little pricey for a brewpub. Being a brewpub rat, I'm used to the traditional American pub type food. The menu had lots of emphasis on fish. I had seafood and sausage gumbo, $18 and really spicy. My girlfriend couldn't decide on a dish, so she opted for the $10 burger. A return trip might happen if we are in town and thirsty, but we won't make a special trip to visit again.

I have hosted many events at this restaurant, as well eaten here as a regular patron. I have found the food superb, the service excellent, and the atmosphere inviting. Some beers do tend to be a little bland, but overall they are satisfying. I highly recommend a visit.

Disagree with South Side Sully. They had an excellent cask conditioned bitter, felt like I was in England somewhere, that beer alone made it all worthwhile. Cove Porter was OK. Nut Brown pretty good. If you're in Stamford and crave some fresh beer.....this would be the place to go to. The decor is gorgeous

Danger! Save yourself! I was desperate and it looked so inviting. If you need to impress your clueless clients then by all means wander in. If you have no clue, please order something with a catchy name. All beers tasted like mop water. Oh but the awesome power of the historic surroundings and the money they dumped into it will convince most travelers that they are the dumb ones.

I concur with the other ratings that the atmosphere in this place is great. Incredible architecture and decor - inside and out. I was really excited when I found out how many beers they had, although, disappointed after trying them. Most of them (pale ale and bitter especially) had a musty/perfumy aroma that I didn't like. Their Oatmeal Stout (my favorite style) was a bit on the sour side, and a little too bland. I enjoyed the IPA the most, although it had a strange flavor I couldn't put my finger on. I also thought it wasn't hoppy enough to carry the prestigious "IPA" badge. Food was OK, service was decent, but nothing to jump up and down about. I really think they need to focus more on the beer. It's the BACKBONE of a brewpub, and I think that's sometimes forgotten.

Visited June 1999 and only tried the beer. The service was very good, unlike what others seemed to have experienced -- must be hit and miss. The beers were a little bland but I agree the place is beautiful and has potential to become great.

Located in a restored turn-of-the-century bank building, Bank Street Brewing boasts perhaps the most beautiful architecture of any brewpub I've visited. Marble and mahogany bar, stained glass domed ceiling - the works - create an atmosphere that is upscale without being pretentious. Bank Street's taplist is almost as impressive - on my most recent trip I found a wheat, IPA, nut brown, scottish ale, porter, cask conditioned ESB, plus one or two others that escape me at the moment. Could this be beer heaven? Weeell... no. The overall quality of the brews just didn't meet expectations. The one consistent flaw I found seemed to be an all-around lack of body. As a result, no matter how well a beer started, the flavor and character just seemed to evaporate completely. The Summer Street Wheat was perhaps the most disappointing of the lot - somewhat sour with no identifiable wheat character whatsoever, more like a weak amber ale. The English-style IPA was better, with a nice opening maltiness giving way to a clean and balanced - though a bit fleeting - hop finish. The nut brown ale started with a wonderful roasted malt richness before fading quickly. Highlander Scottish Ale also made many promises with the classic flavors of peat and a hint of an alcoholic tang, but suffered the same watery finish. The best of the lot was probably the Cove Porter, with a fine, persistent head and a rich roast flavor that actually stuck around just long enough to enjoy. I saved what I had hoped to be the best - the cask-conditioned ESB - for last. It was enjoyable, but still left me feeling like I'd missed something. It was served a bit too cold for my preference, though, so maybe some temp-tweaking can bring out more of the roundness expected of this style. (Or maybe not!) Food quality ranges from mediocre (burgers and other pub grub) to excellent (most entrees, including a sauteed salmon dish that was simply astounding). Prices are high, but if you stick to the more adventurous high end of the menu, you won't feel cheated. Service is friendly but slow; I've ended up feeling abandoned more often than not. Bottom line: Bank Street has a lot of unrealized potential that they might yet meet someday, but not today.

The food was very greasy and the service was poor! Not only was our dinner 45 minutes late but it took us 30 minutes to get a beer and another 25 to get the bill. Overpriced and poor service! Service and food not worth the trip. The beer was ok......I've certainly had better! The only thing worthwhile to our visit there was the architecture of the old bank!

One of the few times I have never left a tip for a waitress. She asked us to close out our tab while we were eating!! She said she had some other things to do in the back. So we closed out with her and gave our next waiter her tip. It was too bad because this ruined our whole experience there. Other than that it was ok. Very neat old bank building. Bartenders were also clueless about the beers they had. Not worth a trip back

I really enjoyed the premises and the beers. One of the better pubs I've been to in this state. Only tried the bar food, but that was pretty good as well. I particularly liked the idea of the "guest" beer, which even though not their own is a nice touch since they have picked some high quality breweries besides themselves to display.
