Great food and great beer selection. The cheese curds are fantastic (as are the burgers). They have a wide selection of regional, domestic, and import beers. The beer is good, but I have had my Guinness served in a frosted glass (Guiness is not meant to be a cold beer) but its usually poured properly. They also have good drink specials. Dotty's is our favorite Friday night spot.

I'm not sure if Larry P has been to the new Dotty's, but it is indeed now a bar; or at least it now has a sit-down bar and full liquor selection and about 10 bar stools, whereas the old Dotty's didn't have a sit-down bar or hard liquor but still had an impressive tap selection.
That said, the new Dotty's is still a restaurant first and foremost, and their emphasis is still hamburgers. The best hamburgers in the midwest, I might add. I had a perfectly delicious ostrich burger and a wonderful cup of gumbo. Man, do these folks know comfort food.
Their beer selection remains as impressive as it always was, with some 25 high-quality taps and another 50 or so in bottles. How many hamburger stands do you know of that can boast this kind of variety?
One aspect of the old Dotty's that did not get transported to the new one is a whimsical, casual atmosphere. Some of the antique nick-nacks are there but the atmosphere of the new Dotty's is quite a bit more upscale. The good news is that the prices didn't go upscale and the food is as delicious and fun as it was before. Glad to see this place is back and busy again.

This place is not a beer bar. It's not a bar at all. It's a hamburger joint that happens to have an exceptional tap selection for a hamburger joint. I don't mean to bring this place down; in fact, more hamburger places should offer a good variety (20 or so, in this case) of solid-quality beers to wash down your food with. But if you're looking for a pub experience or hard-to-find beers, you won't find either here. It's basically self-serve so don't expect to be waited on either.

RIP Dotty's, victim of abuse of government power. I hope you open up shop somewhere else soon.

After getting nicely toasted at the annual Great Taste of the Midwest Beer Festival, I grab a free cab and head here for one of the best damn burgers on the planet. God bless Dotty.

This really isn't a beer at all--it's a hamburger joint. People don't go to Dotty's just to have a couple of beers. They go to have a couple of beers and a burger. There is no bar anywhere in the place. Having said this, it's worth mentioning that this place has some 20 beers on tap, ranging from local favorites like Sprecher to imports like Hacker-Pshorr (sp?). The food is excellent and inexpensive, the interior decorating is interesting (replete with old airplane parts and antique stamped steel advertising signs) and the service is not bad either for a primarily college joint. A must-do for lunch if you're browsing State Street.

One of our favorite places in the whole world for a long and casual lunch. Excellent beer selection and excellent burgers - an all-time top five cheese burger in my book. Ask for the garlic/tomato paste on the side. Their jambalaya is very good, too. Expect to wait in line to order during the noon hour, but that will give you time to look at the memorabilia. Take a little tour of Dottie's after you eat, but don't forget to grab a beer before you do!

Like any college place you get snooty kids behind the counter, but that's ok because the quality of their products excels. Seemed like more of a burger joint until I got a look at the kick-ass beer selection. Chomping on a fat burger and sipping a fresh micro... life is good.

Comfortable ambiance, great soup and sandwiches/burgers, with 10-12 local micros on tap at any time. Walking distance from the capital and UW. Noisy & busy Fri & Sat nites (and anytime the Badgers are playing at home...), but a great place for lunch or afternoon brew.
