I love McCoy's. I'm a local and this is THE place to hang in KC, great people, cool place, but the beers are more hit and miss than they ought to be. There was a time their IPA was absolutely sublime - malty, rich, sharp taste. I keep ordering it and it just is not the same. Maybe the yeasts are getting a little inbred. Maybe the brewer is depressed. Maybe those new HD TVs are just too big and in-your-face. They ought to take road trip out to Free State and get inspired again.....

Very nice place with plenty of good beer. We walked in looking for good beer and a place to watch college football. We stayed most of the afternoon and came back for dinner. Multiple flat screen TVs and an outdoor eating area besides the nice bar. Besides the beer and the TVs, this brew pub provided some nice scenery.

McCoys' beer has improved immensely since my last visit.
IPA-served too cold, very hoppy and bitter and no balance. Still a good brew, particularly for hop-heads.
Imperial (double) IPA. light gold and hazy. Heavily hopped and high ABV this beer stacks right up there with any of the California beers of this style. Super beer!!!!
Belgium Red Ale-very dark, wine colored and bitter/tart in the style of the the Flemish reds. What a find!! This was the best beer I've ever had here (and one that you don't find at many brewpubs) Good job.
The pot roast was excellent-fork tender and more than enough food.
This was the first time in my several trips to KC that McCoys outranked 75th St. Brewery (mostly because of McCoys improvements-these guys are definitely going in the right direction.

While in town last month to see the Pixies, we were happy to see this near our hotel. first night sat at outside bar and had wonderful service, IPA, Brown and other beers all well-made and tasty enough to suggest return. next night at inside bar, the service was inattentive enough, (perhaps on purpose) to prevent getting a late food order in. still recommended- though not for late night eating.

This place was just okay. The service and beer weren't bad, but neither are worth raving about. I guess the thing that stands out the most about this place is that they sell growlers to go in plastic 2 liter bottles.

Stopped by this establishment while on business and spent a few hours outside on their deck quaffing a few IPA's. Must say that the beer was good enough to keep me from going anywhere else that night. Servers were friendly and the area where McCoy's is located (Westport) is a fun section of town.

I've been going to McCoy's since it opened 5 years ago. Only once have I had a not so good experience. They change up the menu regularly and usually there is a specialty or seasonal beer besides their signature beers. The Scottish Ale was the best beer I have ever had. My only complaint is that it is not permanently available. The staff at McCoy's is laidback and willing to strike up a conversation.

The Dry Stout was Perfect! A chocolate finish with a touch of the black patent showing through. The porter was toasty and roasty with a slight coffee finish.

Had 4 different beers: light, pilsener, ESB and IPA. All good, competent beers but lacked unique character and distinctiveness from each other. The food was good bar food but nothing to go out of your way for. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Comfortable with a large bar area

I visited this bar twice in two nights while in town. It was close to the hotel and given the snow I didn't want to venture to far. I was hesitant to visit because the last time I was here several months ago I visited in the late afternoon for a beer only and service from the Ian Hunter/Kenny G. look-alike bartender was horendous.
So who do I see when I walk in-yup-him. Fortunately I had another bartender serve me on both nights and the service was fine.
The beer: The stout is drinkable but too cold, the brown ale is passable but not overwhelmingly flavorful, the ESB was more of an English style and very good. Sampled the Ginger Shandy-too sweet for my tastes.
Food: Night 1 I had the pot roast-two huge chunks of fork tender meat. It was delicious and I couldn't finish it! Night 2 I had the Greek pizza. Again very good but I wished I would have had the pot roast again!!
I would go back here because the beer is good (but not altogether memorable) and the food is excellent.

The beer was very drinkable, but not outstanding - so only the good rating. However, I will definitely come back. The Brown Ale was tasty and the IPA very strong. The Stout was good with a cigar. Food and service were outstanding!

Excellent service at the bar, good beer, good pub food - this was a great place to try a few beers while passing through Kansas City. Although it was more like ginger ale, and didn't taste like a traditional beer, I enjoyed the Ginger Shandy, one of the most unique beers I've tried. It is always a plus when the brewer is willing to do something different.

Outstanding. My favorite in Kaycee. If you like hoppy beers go for the excellent IPA. To top off a nice meal ask for a stout float. Dry stout and vanilla ice cream.

Tried the sampler, and the IPA was the best. The seasonal white ale was also very tasty. They also had a dry stout, which seemed a little thin to me. Maybe they should try this with straight nitrogen to enhance the creamy charactistics. Next time I'm in KC, this place will definitely be on my "To Go" list.

I've neglected this place for a while, because the beer quality had been inconsistant. But, oh my, it's good anymore! I get stuck in IPA's and Stouts, mostly... Hope they stick to it!
If they're reading this, how 'bout include a salad with the meal, same price?

Atmosphere was wonderful, loved the decor... real cozy. The menus were even pretty cool. Our waitress must've been having a bad day because she was completely SANS a personality; very dry and just "going through the motions." Overall, their beer was decent. Although, the Newcomb's IPA and their Dry Stout (seasonal, I think) were the only two with enough personality and flavor to capture my attention. The food was pretty good, well above average for most brewpubs, but then again, I don't go to brewpubs in search of fine cuisine - it's just the icing on the cake. I'd go back to this brewpub the next time I'm in K.C., but I'm hoping to get a better waitress/waiter.

After reading about Newcomb's IPA, we had to come here before leaving K.C. this weekend. The IPA is just as described, very hoppy and just like I like an IPA. We also tried the Hog Pound Brown - also very good. Good food - "fancy" egg dishes for brunch and their special rolls. A nice place to stop before heading to K.C.'s boring airport where we had to spend many, many hours! Stay longer, have more beer, go to the airport at the last minute!

This is a great place! Very good beer. The bar tender was very in-the-know about beer and offered several samples. Food was good and reasonably price. God, how I wish this place had been open when I was at grad school at CMSU.

Nice location, beers were good enough. Sitting outside on a hot summer night drinking brew and watching the scenery go by is just what I want to do, and this is the place to do it.

I'm writing this in the hope that someone from McCoy's reads this. I've never been there, but I had the great pleasure of trying the Newcomb's IPA through the Beer Across America Club. It is OUTRAGEOUS! Perfectly hopped for all of us hopheads. The nose alone is to die for. Anyway, I tried to order a case through the club, but tragically they had run out of stock. So please, if there's any way I can order a case for shipment back to me in upstate NY, please drop me an e-mail. I'll pay any price (well, within reason). It's not that I can't get great IPA's here----we have quite a few----but I really enjoy Newcombs. It's an exellent, well-made beer, and a great example of the style. Anyway, if the fine people at McCoys can help me out, let me know. Thanks!
