This subpar brewpub has been dead and gone for awhile now. The title of "worst brewpub in Sacramento" is now open for debate (I say Pyramid but even they make good wheat beers and I'm biased towards brewpubs that make good big beers). 114 J Street is now a wine tasting room.

Stopped by on 9/17/06 and there was no signs of life. The people in the gift shop next door said Lynchs closed down in May. The listed phone number is no longer in service. At least they could put a note on the door. For better or worse, another one bites the dust.

Wow, this is such a cool little place. A small pub but very friendly! The beer selection was very good and all were excellent. My personal favorites were the Red and the Blackberry. Excellent NY steak sandwich, they have a pretty good variety of burgers and philly sandwiches but I chose the steak and was not at all dissapointed!!! I would highly reccomend stopping by sometime and giving them a try.

Wasn't served. I went there on May 21st and the owner's daughter asked whether I wanted food and/or a beer. I said beer and sat at the bar. I sat there for 5 minutes and the blond bartender never asked what I wanted. She was talking to the only two customers who were inquiring about the owner's 17 yr.old daughter. I finally got up and walked out. I don't know why I wasn't served. Never again will I visit that bar again.

9 beers on tap. Vanilla was good. Lemon was good and unique (not a subtle lemon taste). Porter and honey wheat were pretty good if you like more conventional brews. Brown and blonde were decent. IPA was OK but but bitter/hoppy enough for how I like an IPA. Black Berry was OK but didn't taste much like beer (some fruit beers work better than others). Red is the only beer that I will say was just bad news. New owner (nice chatty guy usually seen behind the bar) and new brewer have made this place much better than the dump it used to be. The Old Sacramento location and cool building are no longer wasted. If you once tried this place and didn't like it I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you give it another try.

This was my first visit, and talking to Mike the bartender the place in under new management with a new brew master. They had 6 varieties of beer available the two I sampled were very good. They don’t have a full kitchen but some snacks (Nachos) are available. If your looking for someplace a little different while in Old Sacrament give the HogsHead a try.

I like the surroundings! The beer was almost nonexsistant, not much of a selection. I've heard rave reviews of this place but was dissapointed when I finally got there. I will try again though.

This is a rustic dive in the great Old Sacramento area. Beer quality is poor, but new owner has pledged improvements. Summer ale was as cloudy and sour as a wheat beer but wasn't a wheat beer. Blonde was marginally better. Pub is small, but has pool table, pinball machine and a piano stuffed in the back, live music some nights. Strange noises were coming from the kitchen. Beer varieties also featured a brown ale, blonde, and raspberry blonde. Steer clear.

Built in a basement, this place's beers are rather "inconsistent", to put it mildly. Agree with Gary: put this place near the bottom of your Sac. pubcrawl list...//TSB

Good location for visiting when passing through town. Inside is like a typical bar - OK but not distinctive. I had the pale ale and the honey wheat which were both OK.

Either the brewing area is not kept clean of contamination, or the brewer consistently samples other brewer's work before beginning his own. Their oatmeal stout is the only brew I've tried from there, but it was bad enough to preclude any further testing.

This beer suffers from serious contamination problems. The beer was so bad that I could not finish a pint. My guess is that since they are located in the heart of a tourist trap, they do not have to depend upon repeat customers. Trust me, for a good beer in Sacramento, there are plenty of better pubs! Hell, plenty of better pubs have closed their doors but Hogshead remains, slinging a foul excuse for beer. They make Bud look good.
