I'm a Gresham native and had spent many an evening at the Highland before moving away two years ago. Recently on a visit home I met up with some old friends there and was really disappointed to see just how far downhill the pub had gone. Of course the beer is still fabulous but the service was so horrible that we didn't even stick around to see what the food was like. For anyone trekking out to the Gresham area I highly recommend going the extra few miles to visit McMenamins Edgefield instead.

Was staying in the area and thought I would give this place a try. First time at a Mc Menamins pub, and based on this experience, it could be my last.
It was a reasonably slow Thursday evening. I ordered a beer. I was asked if I had decided on food and state that I hadn't had a chance to look at the menu as I was deciding on the beer first.
Five minutes later, the beer came. I ordered a Ben's Better Bitter Brown Bear (nitro). Now, I'm not a big brown ale fan, but this one was rather nice. It had nice chocolate flavor and was rather smooth with a nice creamy head.
My beer was dropped off rather uncerimoniously. In fact, since I was behind a newspaper, I barely noticed it had been delivered. No, "here you are, sir. I'll be back to get your food order in a minute." With good reason, it seems.
Twenty-five minutes later, I had finished my beer (and another two sections of the paper) and, still the waitress had failed to stop by for a food order.
Needless to say, I walked. The best beer/food in the world couldn't offset the poor, inattentive service.

The beer was great but thats as far as it goes. I found it hard to believe that this was one of the McMenamin's Pubs, after haveing been in a couple of their others. The food was medioca and the wait staff was less then. Our personel waitress should look for a new calling in life.

Maybe McMenamins best mall outlet, with plenty of windows, a beautiful bar, & the super-ornate chandelier (whose twin lives at the Crystal Ballroom). They make their own beer here, so have some brews that aren't distributedmuch further. I've been here 4 tmies and always had friendly service

I'm glad to say the "B" crew from the last review was not on staff the Saturday we were there. Our waiter was very attentive and our meal was very good. They were pulling an oak conditioned ale from the cask that was really amazing. Overall it was a typical McMenamin's experience...and that's a good thing.

Fantastic brews. They have a very talented brewer there who obviously enjoys his job. Now if they could only motivate the servers to have that attitude. Most of the servers act like it's a great inconvenience to take your order. Right in front of me I overheard one female server griping about "all those customers". There was a total of 10. The other female server told her, " do, what I do. Just don't make any eye contact". She must have taken the advice as we sat at our booth for the longest time. The complainer just walked by, looked at our empty glasses and kept going. We finally had to go up to the bar and the guy cooking got our beers. Excuse me, aren't customers paying for service or is the only McMenamin's self service pub? The brothers need to clean house with this server staff. Food has gone downhill.
