We stopped by on a Friday. Visitor area was still under construction, but we were welcomed and offered several samples. All four were good, so we bought a six pack of each. All were enjoyable. I would buy more if I were in the area.

Yards is not a contract brewer. They are opening a new location on Delaware Avenue after a split with the ownership group.

The folks at Yards are very friendly. The beer is also very good. If you have had them in the past try them now as alot of the beers got "tweaked" fot the better. No food here since it's just a brewery but bring the pizza and they'll bring the beer

The brewery is hard to find for a non-Philadelphian, but worth the effort. The tour was fun and informative. Afterwards, Dean, who led the tour, was more than willing to talk beer in the serving area. In fact, all staff members were friendly and helpful. The serving area is relaxed and decorated with mementos of philadelphia brewing past. The beers are fantastic. When I first tried Yards products a couple of years back, I was unimpressed. The beers didn't seem bad, but were nothing spectacular. On this visit to Philly, I had a glass of the Philadelphia Pale Ale at a downtown bar, and was immediately hooked. It a very well crafted beer. The IPA is great too. It is an American style IPA, balanced with a hint of malt - nice. Anyone who likes a drink that is a little maltier will love the Extra Special. It is hard for me to pick a favorite. My wife, who enjoys Belgian ales, was very impressed with the Saison. On my next trip to Philly, I will definitely stop by Yards to have a couple of brews and stock up on on their fine beers. Excellent beer and a great place to visit. What more can I say?

I had a few pints of their IPA while waiting to catch my flight at the airport. It is on draft at the Independance Pub in Terminal A. The IPA was GREAT - thus my flight was most enjoyable. Can't wait to go back and try more! m

Should have done this months ago. The beers at Yards have improved by leaps and bounds. The big Trubbel is a knockout, solid and sweet and Belgian-twisted. IPA is firmly hopped and authoritatively strong, ESA is as good as it's ever been, and the newly tweaked Philly Pale absolutely rocks: light, crisply hopped, very tasty. The brewery itself: very cool place to visit, neighborhood's improved, tasting room's a unique blend of early 20th C. industrial and bachelor apartment. Find out what Philly's big beer secret is.

Took a day trip to philly and this was the highlight of my trip. The free tour from 12Pm-3PM with free beer made my day. The beer was excellent, I sampled 4 of their beers. I went on Oyster Day and tried their love stout brewed with oysters for Valentines day. Great beer. Women folk will like their rasberry beer. One thing though, this is a brewery if it not a special event there is no food so you should bring your own. The foodery on 10th and Pine sells their beer if you are not in the Kensinton area.

The ESA is fabulous and the IPA was good as well. We really liked the spaciousness of this pub.

I got their variety case of ESA (extra special ale, 6% ABV), Philadelphia Pale Ale (4.3% ABV), IPA (8% ABV), and Saison 5% at a nearby beer distributor. The ESA had a nice but restrained hop nose and good balance. The IPA really doesn't show it's weight. You'd never know its heft. Hopdevil, at least based on what I bought, blows it away. My favorite among their beers I bought would be the Saison. I don't recall having ever tasted a saison before, so with that caveat, I really enjoyed it. It's slightly phenolic with good body and is rather substantial. It's a cloudy straw-gold. All their beers are bottle conditioned.
I would really like to try their beers fresh at the brewery sometime.

Yards makes excellent beer. ESA is great. The brewery is very plain and clean. I always appreciate and attend special events when invited. Thanks.

I loved the beer, but the brewers really should look more professional. May I suggest a sharp-looking as well as functional one-piece jumper.

By far the most incredible brewery I've ever seen. Just the fact that the building once housed a brewery is very cool. Oh yeah...all the beers are incredible too!

Yards has moved to Kensington, into the old Weisbrod & Hess brewery building on Amber Street. Solid building, and they just started brewing last week. Yards ESA should start moving back into the beer pipeline within three weeks. Things are going to be great at this new place once it's more completely spiffed up; watch for a banquet hall and real tasting room.

I heard Yards is moving to a larger location somewhere in the Kensington section of the city. What's the chances of these guys opening up a brewpub there? I can only hope! They make some of the most flavorful beers I have tasted anywhere. If you can find it served on a beer engine it is out of this world. I highly recommend the Love Stout and the Porter. Had their IPA at the Kyber- wonderful stuff.

If Yard's has had some rough spots in the past... forget about it. These guys have really raised the bar and turned thing around. They're creating some of the best beer on the East Coast right now. The ESA is my bar standard, always available - always good, and the specialties - Old Ale, Love Stout, Saison - make them truly stand out.

Tried Yards' Love Stout last night at Helmer's. Truly heaven in a glass. Probably the best tasting stout I have had in a long time.
