I was there for a buddies bachelor party recently. For $110 a person we got appetizers, dinner, dessert and an open bar (anything we wanted) for 4 hours. Since this was in NYC, I found that to be pretty reasonable. I found the beer to be very good with a respectable selection. I tried the Empire, Harvest Wheat, Matrimony Ale, Summertime Apricot and the Oatmeal Stout. I also had a Drunk Monkey, which was the Harvest Wheat with a shot of Banana Liquer mixed in, which was very unique and tasty. We also did quite a few rounds of shots which were always mixed perfectly. The Calamari was probably the best I've ever had and the Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls were also quite good. We had 3 choices of our entree so, I didn't get a look at the menu but my 14 ounce Sirloin Steak was fantastic. For dessert, I enjoyed the New York Cheesecake. The restaurant itself is very nice (although it did seem to have that chain brewpub feel to it, similar to a John Harvard's) and our server was prompt and friendly. I noticed that normally the Pints go for $6 a pop (Welcome to New York City) so, I probably wouldn't be able to afford going here every weekend. It's definitely worth a look if you are in the area

I stopped at the Time Square location on 9/22/05. I ordered a wheat beer, which I had to send back. Not sure whether the lines are dirty or the beer was infected. It had a very sour, lactic taste. Tried the stout, it was ok, but nothing special. My waiter was great. I was unable to try any of the other locations. Maybe I hit them on a bad day, but I will not be back.

The real estate creed, "location, location, location" really applies to the Heartland Brewery. With sites in Union Square, Times Square, Radio City, the Empire State Building and South Street Seaport they really seem to have the bases covered. In fact, great locations have kept this brewery afloat while most of the other Manhattan brewpubs (Zip City, Carnegie Hill, Yorkville, etc.) have fallen off the map. Sure the beer is good, but the Farmer Jon Oatmeal Stout is the only consistent standout in the bunch. Unfortunately, the consumer pays the price, literally, for the great locations in the form of a $6 16oz pint of beer. I don't know about you, but I've got my own Manhattan rent to pay without worrying about paying someone else's. All in all, worth one visit....pick a spot....they're everywhere.
