Carnegie Hill Brewing Co. is no more.
Ceased operations sometime in late February-early March, and has re-opened as Big City. They tore out the brewing tanks, and the best beer on tap now is Bass or Murphy's at $6/pint. Guess they didn't feel like making a go of it any more.
Should have seen the writing on the wall in mid-February, when the beers were uniformly in horrible condition. It's always sad to see brewpubs close up shop in the city -- down to just three names in Manhattan now.

I went to Carnegie Hill in November 2001. The beer selection included 3 made on site - and mediocre at best. Nothing unique. Food included nachos and pizza with a nice frozen crust texture. If you're in the neighborhood and feel lucky stop in, but I wouldn't advise a special trip.

A decent choice in a neighborhood where there aren't many if you're not in the mood for a loud, dirty, cramped bar full of post-college frat boys. Beer, food, and ambiance are all pretty good, but be warned: the service here has been awful every single time I've been there. The waitreses are rude, take forever to wait on you, and look put out that they even have to - even on nights when the place isn't so crowded. But if you're easy-going enough to get past that, a good place to stop by if you're in the neighborhood (but not quite good enough to make a special trip uptown to check it out).

Seem to be trying new things every so often; there's a Bock on tap right now, alongside such regulars as their wheat and "Carnegie Pale Ale" and some light lager, I believe. That said, they still seem to sell more Coors Light and Bud bottles, but oh well. Well-made beers, at least as good as others brewed in the city, and at least they're still in business!

Hands down the worst beer I've ever had at a brewpub anywhere--and that includes places where they brew beer with malt extract. It's all dishwater, with no body or mouthfeel at all. Only one of the beers was truly unservable--acrid and reeking of disinfectant. But the others, including the darks, were nearly indistinguishable. This is a place for yuppies on the make, not people who want to drink real ales.

Beer selection doesn't vary often, but usually a few really good ones on tap. Food is typical American fare. The CPA and Daredevil Ale are fabulous (and, yes, bitter), and at four bucks a pint, a good buy. Usually noisy and crowded at night, but the bartenders are quick and helpful.

The last time I ate at Carnegie Hill brewing company, two Cockroaches crawled across my table and I haven't been back since. That was four years ago.

I felt like I was in college again. Their beers are good enough, but a little on the bitter side. I've been there three or more times (for the big screen TV for sports events) and found myself switching to Bud Light on the third beer. Hope that helps.

Have not dined in, but 22-27 singles bar scene is pretty respectable. Quality may have improved (I visited 3 years ago), but each of three beer selections I tried were bitter.
