I have lived in Mercer County for over 15 years. If you dont want to make the trip to Princeton (expensive and metered parking spaces) I suggest this establishment. It has free parking that is always readily available. The beers are really great and the food is tasty. The regular menu is run-of-the-mill (no pun intended) but the specials are semi-gourmet and homecooked. The prices aren't very "cheap" but you are in the city and I think it beats the prices at other places in the area (The Marriot's Archives, for instance). Usually they have bands but depending on your taste and whether or not you like to drown out any people speaking, they can make or break the bar experience. I find the service varies but I don't find it necessarily 'lousy' but they certainly dont wait on you hand-and-foot. You have the local yokels at the bar but its definitely not "that" kind of bar. There is usually a good group of people usually ranging from 25-55.

I was last in this place early last year and what a difference that made. Although service was still not the greatest (this place is intended for the standard usual clientele whom the barkeep knows by name). This time I walked in on a Wednesday at 6pm. There were few people at the bar and NO cigarette smoke. Flying Fish, RiverHorse, Bass, Harp, Bud were just a few of the drafts available. I had two pints and the linguine shitake special of the day and the grand total came to $18.60. A but much, even for Trenton, but I guess that's the price for being in the Old Grist Hill neighborhood. For the state capital this would perhaps be the better pub around.

Unlike other reviews my service was excellent The bartender went out of his way to get me what I wanted. On nights when there is a band yes they probably could use an extra hand but still very friendly bar keep. The downstairs has a great caverness vibe. Good night out when there is a good band.

I walked in here thinking this was a brewpub--as it says on its facade, but instead walked into a small, smoky, hickbar with fat guys at the counter smoking and watching the "game." I asked for a menu and beer list and felt bad for interupting the bartender's lunch break. He didn't seem to want to wait on me so I walked out. I don't like walking into brewpubs and finding out it doesn't even brew its own beer. And grumpy bartenders? Don't we have enough with rude drivers in this state?

The main floor of this saloon is a restaurant with bands playing most nights of the week. On tap upstairs is usually Flying Fish Porter, Guinness and Riverhorse (plus the usual swill). The place to be is downstairs in the brew cellar (open Wed, Thurs, Fri nights)taps change often; in the past month or so there as been on tap Allegash White, Ottercreek Mudbock, Wild Goose IPA, Brooklyn Pils, Flying Fish Grand Gru, Flying Fish Abbey Dubbel, Flying Fish Pale Ale and New Castle Brown. Note: Service tends to be better downstairs and the menu is the same as upstairs.

Only one beer on tap. Maybe good, maybe bad, but I'll never know because I walked out on the rudest service I've ever encountered. When I ordered my beer, the bartender actually started whining at me about not wanting to walk all the way back to get it. He wasn't busy at all, in fact the place was dead empty, so I thought he was kidding. When it became clear that he wasn't, I saved him the trip and hit the door. Unbelievable!

The front room (with the bar) has most of the atmosphere on the upstairs level. The food was little better than what I've had in diners. I was disappointed the brewpub was closed on a weekday at lunch, but the beer I had was excellent. With a little work I think this brewpub has real potential.

The closest thing to homebrew that's available at a pub (and I've been to alot of brewpubs). The small quantity batch size (half bbl.)guarantees the integrity and nuances you can only get from a home brew.

I have gone here before and been overwhelmed by the quality of the beer--among the best, by far. However, I tripped into town on a Friday afternoon to find the bar closed until 6 PM, and closed on Saturdays in the summer (when 90% of town goes to the beach). The restaurant/saloon upstairs will accomodate your requests by going downstairs to get your order, but it isn't the same. Recipes seem to have been tinkered with as well--has the summer affected brewing? Advice--call before going to make sure of hours, but do stop by and give them a try.

This is a place for real beer! The Abbey Ale is highly recommended for anyone with a yearning for a rich Belgian-style double. The Imperial Stout and seasonal barleywine are consistent winners, too. The newest noteworthy brew is the recently retooled IPA, which is nicely balanced and avoids the mistake of overhopping that so many brewers make when attempting this popular style.

This place is actually an established restaurant that has a HALF BARRELL (thats only @13 gallons!) system made from old kegs converted to a great little system by an engineer turned brewmaster, rigged up behind the basement bar about three years ago. But WOW what a great selection of complex and very flavorful beers. The only BP in Trenton.
